  4. Yes! The power of the ea81 is amazing! I think I broke the speed limit once all the way from colorado! Thanks to a kind board member in seattle with a impreza and balls to drive it, I had a blast before I pulled into bellingham and a comfy bed. I'm looking into moving into a place sometime this week. The guy that lives there is a VW person but has room for the hatch! I'm talking garage to lay on instead of a driveway. oh yeah and he has a pool table too!!!!!!lookout singletrack ; ) Supposed to meet up with MudisFun and drink a cold one tonight, Yes! Sorry I didnt stop in to see summer sweet82 but there was a system of errors that led me to an oil change in walmart's parking lot and exhaust woes that prevented me from stopping in.
  5. doh! Still dont have a home yet! or a welded diff. maybe next time!
  6. Wow I feel welcome already:grin: Thanks everyone for your replys! Zap I will need directions to your house I also don't have your Phone # anymore, at least not that I can find. 7. So the hatch is making its way back to Washington. Im going to go to Western Washington University for a year I should be leaving Colorado on or around the 4th of Sept. Mainly just want to let everyone know the Tan hatch is going to be around and to keep me in mind for 4x4 fun. I'm in need of a place to live once I reach Bellingham and I have a dog (always a problem when renting) any help in this regard would be great. I dont have the internet at home so its tough to stay on top of a post like this free bumps are greatly appreciated. (even if i can't spell it!) Looking forward to winter fun with you guys!!!!
  8. Timing would be everything! Im headed to Bellingham on or around the 4th of Sept. I think you said you lived in Seattle? I would be more than interested in beer money and tent space in the yard if little blue dogs are welcome too! I couldnt stay for too long since I will be trying to track down a place to stay up there. In other words you got to have the engine you want to put in there first. Ill try to stay on top of this post but without the internet at home its hard. private message me and i can give you my cell phone #............. peace
  9. Two guys can do it it helps to have a third! (we are skinny men) Grab the heads and lift with your arms not your back. gravity does the trick on the re-install. Done this twice now. ea81, ea82. i like Mcbrat's idea but feel less manly about it.
  10. For the record I was just testig ground clearance! I figured out why my steering wheel was off about five degrees. I bent that bar that comes off the control arm had a nice U shape, must be a stabilizer something or other. Its all good now, had a spare one and stuck it on there yesterday as good as new. I dont think we even made it a mile into that canyon. But the beer was cold! I just noticed the scary eyes of Randal in the photos spooky!!!!!
  11. I dont know why Milesfox write up is gone it was very straight forward. The best thing to do when it comes to hoses and wires is get some masking tape and a marker. tape everything you disconnect and mark on the tape where it goes. this is one of the suggestions from the book keeping your subaru alive. i think its about 100 bucks now unless you find a used one or a library!!!!! that has one. I have a good memory and a de-emissioned ea81 so i think i had like 10-15 pieces of tape to keep track of. you may be looking at alot more but it's worth your time to tape everything. I took pics with my digi but ended up erasing em before i could use em this may help you alot though with the amount of stuff your looking at disconnecting. you and a buddy ought to be able to jerk the engine out of there it helps to have a third. putting it back in two guys and gravity works great. the jack on the tranny helps to get the angle right for removal and insertion. if you pull the clutch you may want to get the clutch a-lingement<sp> tool although i just used my finger and eyeball and it came out fine. I just set mine on a five gallon bucket, oil pan in the bucket.(milesfox suggestion) Make sure you have time i was figuring on a week and it took two, alot of bike rides to the parts store made me think twice as to why i didnt get everything together first.... but i like riding my bike....... if your hitting the head gaskets up. try to torque those studs before you put a seal in there and torque things down I had a stripped stud and blew the gasket apart. just another ride to the parts store...... with any luck you can use some of this info:)
  12. It shouldnt matter. I know I had to turn my fuel filter upside down I may have the seperator like that as well. I could check but it will be like a week before i get to use the internet again.
  13. You shouldnt need to ask your dad how to put pics on the internet unless he has some crazy network management thing going on with your internet. Its easy take pictures with digi or regular develop on cd or download to computer. you post your pics in the message you type by using the attach files button below. you will have to resize the pics if you go this route, and that can be done with photo editing software. (free download available on the internet someplace) you could also ask if anyone would host your pictures judging by everyones lack of imagination you shouldnt have a problem. You could donate to usmb and post them in the photo gallery i think thats how it works here. besides that lets SEE some lifted subaru action in new hampshire. ps nothing is a waste of time if you have fun while doing it
  14. I would get in touch with 91Loyale on the board he's got tons of trails around him and its right next door to New Ipswich so you could stop in there too. Plus maybe you could motivate him to get his wagon moving. There are a few good trails in and around greenville and mason. The one i like involves a river crossing off of route 31 and the power lines.(a pretty intricate system of trails exists around the power lines and can be very gnarly in some places.) 91loyale can give you the low down i suspect! Wherever you go take pictures please.... i miss new hampshire, for about two minutes here and there... The place in weare is really a dirtbike place isnt it not even good for quads? Also you might get in touch with a local jeep club i have seen caravans of jeeps on trails and you could show em a few things one can do with a subaru.
  15. I looked into these and asked this same ?????? got no reply! I just went and bought the FSM from a board member.
  16. Sound at speed? This may be hard to tell with a bad CV. Does it become louder or quiter in turns I could isolate the side my wheel bearings where shot in this way?(of course I don't have as an acute sniffer as you, so I used a windy hill and friend with our heads out the windows.) Wheel bearings is my bet.... NO clues on the rest good luck
  17. The real question?? Do you have the special 17mm socket to tighten the head down, without removing the rocker arm assembly, that could be lent out or better yet one for sale? I will most likely just take off the rocker arm assembly like Shawn suggested, now that I am faced with this FSM recommendation, and your and Ross's, which I consider to be more valuable. Its good to know that you have extra studs laying around since I was basically laughed at when inquiring where I could find a 11x1.25 stud in town. Fortune is on my side and I don't need one at this time, the crank case is getting a helicoil whether it likes it or not, but the engine is still sitting on the five gallon bucket..... Im thinking that Monday things will go very smoothly with building the engine back up, after all I will be wrenching on my birthday.... what else could be better. ooh need to get cold beer too! Thank YOU
  18. HMMM I cant recall reading anything like this in the FSM. That doesnt mean its not there I will reread the book again and figure this out. By the way what manual are you looking at I have a 1984 1600 1800 FSM?
  19. My screws been loose for awhile now, i just found out myself yesterday though. I can't believe no one knows the size of these studs. I thought this was the ULITMATE SUBARU MESSAGE BOARD!
  20. Im thinking this is a good deal! Dont need anything but money!
  21. That sounds about right the stud is larger than the 10. Too bad I didnt look closer before I bought the wrong kit. Now to dig that coil out of the engine! THANKS for the insight into the larger stud size I was too blinded by rage to realize! I think your on to something but the thing is.... DoH! Im wondering............... Edits the first post
  22. Man those curbs can tear it up is there any damage to the wheel at all? DId you hook it up to the car first or the control arm? Looks like you got to replace the control arm its not hard. I doubt you bent the mount at least the pictures dont make it look like you did, but you won't know without a straight control arm. You should get a ball joint too while you have it off cause it sucks to pull all that stuff again once you find the ball joint is crap.
