so had two broke pistons the other one took a race to show up was hurt but not broke started ratting and smoking on #3 hole comp is good still but piston is hurt will change it out today and see if stops smoken 2 forged and two stock pistons on oppeset side thiss should balance good yikes oh well just two more races to go hang in there poor old 2.51
  2. so two more a 03 forester and a 99 outback yesterday 420 420 thats over 55 cars here with 420 codes and havent got one to shut off light yet i'm thinking pluged injectors making it to lean or just two small of injectors
  3. there was a recall but none of them failed till long after waranty and still over 250 each + core subaru parts in canada are way over priced because they send them to canada from japan to vancouver then truck them to toronto then fly them back to vancouver then truck them to kelowna it makes no sense and adds 60 % to the price just in shiping subaru of canada has there head up there rump roast wonder if honda and toyota do thiss too
  4. still driving me nuts two more yesterday a 99 forester twin cam 420 and a 97 legacy sedan 420 both full heat shields and no exhaust leaks thiss puts the total over 50 cars all 420 all 97-05 dosent seem to matter 2.2 2.5d 2.51 2.53 all 420 have had customers change both catts and 02 sensers but still the same to many cars with same problem i think subarus ecus are calibrated poorly it seems they turn on the 420 code when they change elavation drasticaly pull the pass or up to ski hill i still have no solution for thiss and have had to tell customers that i have no fix and its a subaru problem is very frustrating
  5. so the thery is wrong had a 03 forester with all heat sheilds and shrouds intact and set the 420 code cleared it and it set it agian have a new thery that the cars are running to lean and there is not enuff feul left over to get cats hot the more lean it is the sooner it sets the 420 every one of theese moters i pull a plug on the plugs are very lean burning i think the feul injection is the problem to small for the engine dissplacment i do know that the more left over feul in exhaust the hotter the cats run
  6. check high amp fuse in under hood fuse box hasent burnt one side of its contacts
  7. had some high kms 251s lately one was 33000kms on leaky headgaskets other had 34000 kms and a 96 outback twin cam with 35000kms on origanal engine just started leaking on headgasket it seems the more the car is used the longer the headgaskets hold up i think they get damaged from any kind of sitting around or short triping

well it works snaped my rear right axle on the launch and did a sidways pass was a bitt harry but engine held up good and got 3 good pases in the buggy comes of the line way harder lanuched at 3500 rpms instead of 2100 rpms got into the boost way faster and stayed on top works way better with a good trans
  9. so it whould be the cats that are to cold ? or just not the temp the ecu whants to see we are pricing out what it whould take to replace all heat shieds on one of theese cars to get a idea if its even fesabble to fight thiss code or leave it be
  10. i'm realy thinking that the 02s need to be insulated to keep heat in the senser i wonder if some chevy spark plug wire boots over the o2 may help
  11. hose on ps side of intake that gos to vacume storage pot
  12. i think brake fluid or chemical reaction i had rebuilt the trans was just a core from pile when i took it apart the coating was ok but was more than 3 years ago and 4 engines and 6 race events was defanatly somting iv'e never seen the trans shure dident like it. Its good now shifts hard and has a 4000 high stall ( holy crap ) did that kick it in the pants my 4 piston toyota brakes cant hold it back hitts 3500 and drives past the brakes
  13. The trany pan in the buggy (uses a 92 legacy turbo trans) all the teflon coating seperated and got sucked into the fillter and pluged the fillter and smoked out the clutches has anyone ever seen thiss happen before is a new one for me the trans did get hot but you would think the teflon could hande heat it lost evry bitt of coating and sucked it all into fillter weridest thing iv'e seen thiss year

so this is somting iv'e never seen before the teflon coating in the trany pan seperated and got sucked into filter and restricted the flow wreaking the clutches anyone seen thiss before ? was very odd mabee got to hot anyway new clutches and fillter and put in the stronger forward pack out of outback trans and the high drum and a custom built 4500 rpm high stall will try it today and see how it works now
  15. yes but the subaru dealers deny it exists and tell me no reflash avalible but there tech tells me they take the subaru scaner and reset the ecus all the time but they will not tell the public is a big secret round here
  16. surface heads ! do not use a rotory tool to clean block just razor blade and very gental to block
  17. i put a 91 2.2 in a 2003 impreza other day just the short block and used the 2.5 shoc heads and intake had to use 2.2 turbo gaskets and slightly modify them and the timing belt was a little tight had to trim the adjuster a slight bitt ran very good and still running no problems dident even notice any power diferance and the girl saved over 2000$ on the job 2.2 bottom end 500 $ 2.5 bottom end 2500$ and the 2.2 bottom end is way stronger
  18. i tried a o2 spacer on the 02 forester will use it as a trail car see if it helps i also thought that wraping the o2 in header wrap to keep it hot might help try and keep the heat in
  19. bett its the heat sheilds i have had to remove many because of under car damage and rusted out and loose so most of theese cars have no heat shields or damaged ones the salt and rough roads kill them quick i never thought it could set codes mabee some header wrap will help keep heat in or have it powder coated or somthing is hard when have no answer for customers
  20. the vidio dosent do it justice the tough truck i whent to on weekend was way better beat the crap outa her till it wouldent move and fixed it beat it agian no broke pistons and ran nos all weekend well if you guys were wondering about runing mix match pistons seems to hold up dosent even shake or vibrate and thiss engine got pushed hard
  21. ivans imports replied to ivans imports's topic in Off Road
ran wicked no misses no broke pistons runs better now than day one ran the nos no problems was fast on the tough truck course got some good air broke 3 axles and welded first gear got 3rd fastest time trough pitts thiss pitt was realy deep pushed mud with engine the whole way and compteatly sumerged it in mud still works good the engine held together well enuff to break evrything else so must be good
