im going to pull the valve cover and look to see if there is a mechanical problem, and to make shore the oil is getting to the lifters, i rebuilt the oil pump, and installed the orings in the rocker boxs, so i dont think the problem is there -

gl - gl-10 question
scrapdaddytatum replied to 86subaru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i think autos are full time i have 2 gl-10 auto wagons and they are both full time with manual you had choices -
so as some of you know im building a turbo ea82, bar no expense this is going to be sick motor, thought about a twin turbo but the space is not there, so i thing im going for a single front mount garret t-3, mounting the turbo to the side in front of radiator and putting the intercooler right of the turbo beside it, the intake for the turbo wound be a K&N right on the turbo, im using the rare spider intake flipped around so the throttle is facing foward, im having the bottom end completely done out with harding and shotpeening, full balance and blueprinting, JE pistons, true seal rings(file fit) and 8.5 to 1 compression, copper head gasket, shaved gen 3 heads with port and polish, 5 angle valve job, and stainless valves, stock cams, ported and polished intake, arp engine bolt kit(complete), a garret t-3 from turbonetics with ball bearing and ceramic to super 70 a\r trim, this turbo is for a dodge charger, my other addiction, i will be using ej25 injectors and SDS ENGINE MANEGMENT, all this with an rx transmision, act clutch, skip lightened flywheel, lsd rear, byb 3" lift in a 89 gl10 wagon, im aiming for 225hp any suggestions or idea' s also any manufactor for rods or cranks in proformance trim or any other ea82 proformance parts, thanks scrapdaddy

valve/lifter noise in a ea82
scrapdaddytatum replied to scrapdaddytatum's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
im a very experienced mechanic,15 years at it, just dont know the piticulars of the ea82 power plant -
i just built a ea82, crank up build, all new everything, but due to the cost of lifters, i used a set from a 30k carb motor, well got it in the car, started it up, redid the belts and distributor a couple of times, got it right, fired the bit*h up, she runs pretty good too, except this damn lifter noise, all the lifters were soaked in trans fluid, and checked before using, they were good, now i ccould go into detail about how well this ting is built, but its no point, all normal build procedures were followed and everything checks out ok, but this damn noise, could be lifter, valve or odd exhuast leak, i dont know, i only ran the engine for about 2-4mins, to check oil presure and coolent flow, and to look for leaks, no leaks of coolent, oil, or exhuast as far as i can tell, the noise is load, like a rocker is hitting the cover, but that is not happening, any clues as to where to look

my 99 outback, 2.5, auto, suddenly(5k ago got filter and filter done) the trans oil light starts flashing, and the check enginre light comes on, checked all my basics, everything looking normal, reset the computer, trans light starts flashing in 1 min. seems to drive normal, should i get the codes scaned, the light stops flashing when the engine off/key on. and the engine light has not returned, should i drive aROUND block a couple of times, should i service the trans again, the fluid is dark allready, and does anybody know if the 4speed auto in my 95 2.2 is the same, they are both 4wd, 3.90 gears??? any info will be greatfull, thanks scrappy

so a little info for yall... i recently thought i had blown my 2.2 in my 95 imprezza but it was not blown, the idler pulley that bolts to the water pump sheared off cousing the timing belt to come off. so the following was broken in process, the water pump, the timing belt, the belt tensioner, and 2 idler pullies were worn and loose, oh yeah the front timing covers were trashed. how any of this occured is beyond me. i have never seen this before. but thought you guys might find it interesting.
