Ok, so it took me a month I stopped up to the place in Broadway yesterday, it's name: Broadway Automotive, go figure. google maps is off by a bit on the address: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=broadway+automotive,+broadway,+nj&ll=40.733275,-75.049614&spn=0.002773,0.006034&t=h&hl=en Tele: 908.689.2226 I talked to a nice lady there for a few minutes; the two mechanics are ex- flemington subaru guys who opened up their own shop. They were busy, so I didn't get a chance to speak with them. I think they only they can't do are alignments. If anyone ends up going there for some work i'd be interested in their experience.

There is also an adjustment on the back of the backing plate. Just pop out the rubber piece and use a flat bladed screwdriver and LOTS of light. I believe UP makes things tighter. Hi All, I did a quick search but didn't notice this information posted here, so I thought I'd share. I picked up some oil filters the other day and was confused when I was handed a smaller/different filter. From what I understand all non-H6's will now use the same filter (AA09A). http://tinypic.com/ieh6ja.jpg AA060 in left, AA09A on right (serial #F10R28E1) In my googling I found an interesting NASIOC thread, it's definitely worth a quick read. (In short; some of the newer AA09A's were defective, but the new ones that you get now should be fine.) http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=864075&page=1 I'm hoping I wasn't the only person to wonder what was going on.

I ended up getting this part from the dealer (probably because napa/advanced had no idea what i was talking about). I think it was only a buck or two, and the package label says it's a "tang stopper". I can get you a part number when i get home if you want. The subaru one you push through the belt webbing and then I used a heated flat bladed screw driver (not too hot) to squish the pin flat.

Finally got things back together when I got home from work. Apparently having some patience is important From what I can tell the rubber was swollen, that's why it kept riding up. I trimmed a sliver of rubber off the end so it fit better in the groove. Then I unbolted the pins from the piston assembly, so they'd be easier to work with, this turned out to be key. Greased everything up, and with moderate forced "tapped" the pin into the bracket with my hand. I'm guessing that because of the swollen rubber too much air was getting trapped in there forcing the boot out. Anyway, thanks for the help, maybe this will help someone in the future. On a side note, what do those boots do?

Attached is a pic of the rubber thingy. I already put the caliper back on.. was planning to go get another rubber sleeve. The rubber piece sits in a cut out area on one of the pins. What was happening was when i putting the bracket back onto the pins, the rubber piece wasn't tight enough and would ride up out of the groove.

So I decided to replace my front and rear pads, and front rotors tonight. Figured it shouldn't take me more than an hour or two... little did i know. The backs came off and went back together perfectly. The fronts came apart just fine, but I am having some trouble with reassembly. The rubber "sleeves" that sit on one of the guide pins, will not stay in place no matter how i try to put things back together. They always ride up too far so i can't compress the caliper. What do these rubber sleeves do? I'm guessing they are just worn out/too loose. Can I get these parts seperate or do i need to get a whole rebuild kit? Lastly, how do you get them on without going crazy?? Thanks for the help... Almost forgot.. '02 OBW (Legacy)

I looked through the owners book and all it mentions about manually selecting 2nd is that it'll skip first gear for better traction in slippery conditions. I called SOA, but apparently you need to be a dealer in order to talk to their tech guys... Sooo I tried calling a dealership and the service guy asked their mechanics who "have no idea" (i'm not surprised). Agreed. I wouldn't make having LSD the main selling point. If you're putting winter tires on they will help you more than the LSD. I have a LSD on my Outback, it's nice to have for the power slides, but i'm not sure how much it really helps other than getting going off the line. Figure out if you'd rather have a new car, or if you need the extra room the Forester provides. Happy shopping!

Are your summer tires near replacement time? I'd say get some WRX 16's for the summer (pretty cheap on ebay or nasioc). And use the old rims for the winter tires. There is a place over in Easton, first exit off of 22 once you cross the bridge (it's on the right side of the highway). I think it's called the Hubcap and Wheel Store. It's a pretty shady looking warehouse, i've "wheeled and dealed" there before... just be careful that you make sure the rims are straight!

Not sure why I didn't think of this before... but there is a Subi place up in Broadway off of rt 57 (just west of washington). They always have a bunch 2nd gen legacies around. I don't have any personal experience with them, but it would be worth a call. I don't know the name/address off hand, lemme see if I can find it..

Hey, I live just down the road in Union. What kinda parts are you looking for? There are a few local places I've been to, but I'd say the amount of Subaru stuff is fairly minimal, but I doubt there are many people looking either. Cozze Bros. is closest, it's up past the walmart make a right on race st. Brass Castle imports is up in Oxford. Last time i was there they had a lot of VW stuff, worth a call. Columbia Too is pretty big, and well sorted, it's off 57 just northeast of Washington. I've heard Harry's U Pull It just opened up a place in Allentown, probably some good stuff there. Do a search through the meet-greet forum too, every so often some folks in the NE run out to a couple yards in eastern PA.

Having understeer from too much power to the rear wheels makes sense, hopefully slowing down would help get the fronts more grip though. If the snow is pretty deep, i would think it would be best to manually select 1st or 2nd since it locks the power split at 50/50. At least that's what I've read, not sure if it applies to that year 4eat.

I'm in NW NJ, looking to replace my RE92's soon (OBW has 60k on them and i don't think they'll do well in the snow this winter). What kinda price range are you looking for? Two of the guys I work with have A4's one with Pirelli PZero Nero and the other with Continenal ContiExtremeContac, they're very happy with them in the snow and they perform well in the other conditions. Those are a bit high in my price range so I've been looking at the Potenza g009's ($98), Traction T/A's ($100), and Yokohama Avid V4's ($107). Non-chain local tire shop price includes mounting/balancing/disposal. As others have mentioned the Traction T/A's are a solid tire, great dry/wet performance and good snow grip (have them on my sisters legacy). I'm going to try something new though, I've read lots of good things about the Yoko's but my wallet might make the decision with the ~40$ difference with the g009's. I'll stop blabbing now
