  1. Coolant in the oil pan isn't so bad. Check the exhaust ports for cracks, and if none get some new HGs on that puppy and get driving. (jealous...)
  2. "another??? The interior is tan... They sure do look comfy, in a sports car kind of way... And since I grew up (well, kinda ) drooling over Porsches and planning my BRE-replica 510, I like the bolsters and stuff.
  3. Just wanted to remind/point out that if you decide to go with MegaSquirt on the GL10 then this particular item is made irrelevant.
  4. Took a pic of the seats, still wondering if these are standard Brat seats. I am beginning to doubt it as they are a different color than the interior.
  5. Again, I want to stress that the Brat's current condition is NOT because of bratsco1; as I understand it, he served as "broker" for the previous owner/driver, and THAT driver caused much of the damage/problems. Ed, thanks for the info, and I might be interested in the console. The Brat has a console, but it, like some other parts, are sitting in the passenger footwell. After talking with you at qman's, I figured that the hardest part to replace would be that taillight (rightside with the tape all over it). The engine was no big deal as I have two spares (only took me 7 years to finally find a use for them ), the body/chassis looks totally rust free except for minor surface rust at body scrapes (I love Washington!!!), but the paint is pretty faded and inexpertly touched up. I have lots of minor body work to do. My wife thinks that we should name the Brat "Erin" or some variation thereof... Our daughter was always called "brat" by one of her uncles, so it just seems fitting that our first Brat ( ) would be named for our first "brat".
  6. CCR has a very good reputation on this board. So much so that maybe "CCR" should be added as one of the searchable 3-letter words/terms.
  7. Yup, one of the two best sellers in your pasture! And thanks for clarifying MCP for the masses. Not such a popular term since the '70s... If it ever stops raining, I'll have to take a closer look and see what could use replacing. Definitely the dash cap, probably the radio console. The seats look OK... BTW, are all Brat seats different from other EA81 seats? As in side bolsters and extended seat cushions? I feel like so Brat-ignorant.
  8. Wow!!! If I had dared to say that I would have heard shouts of "Genderist!" and "MCP!"
  9. Aw, just go ahead and give me the whole Brat so mine won't be lonely.
  10. Can't be an East Coast Brat... it isn't covered in rust!!! Gee, the rain sure makes it look prettier; maybe there is some hope for the paint after all. Thanks, Paul, and let me know what you find. I am not in a big hurry (I never am) for the cosmetics. But my wife really wants me to do something about the dash cap. BTW, the Brat was HER idea: "We need a Brat." Okay... Getting her home was not without travail. I lost the alternator on my Aerostar on the way, didn't realize until over the Cascade passes when the wipers didn't move anymore, voltmeter reading 8volts. Got to a NAPA at 10 minutes to closing on Sunday, and they didn't have a replacement for my Lifetime Warranty alt... which didn't matter too much since it is like a 2-3 hr ordeal to replace. Made it out and most of the way home using 2 new batteries. Funny, the Brat is the first vehicle that I have thought of as having a gender.
  11. Paul, the color scheme is burgundy-ish paint, tan interior.
  12. Ok, double duty pic (if I get this to work right): (After much futzing around and searching, I figured this out...kinda)
  13. Talking about the whole car, or something specific like the tail light? I was hoping to get her (him?) gussied up a little (washed/waxed would help) before a lot of car pics. (Interior shots would shot all the cig butts...)
  14. Gee, did they make Brats in BLACK???? Connie and Rob, thanks. I almost got the engine resolved today, but about the time I was ready to lift the old engine out it started to rain. And given our recent lightning, I didn't want to be standing in the rain next to large hunks of metal.
  15. When I picked up moosens 73 Coupe in January, bratsco1 (the PO) offered me a good deal on an 82 Brat. Well, that deal finally came to fruition last weekend, and we are the proud owners of said Brat. This Brat, being a good deal and all, has some "issues". The first and easiest to resolve is an engine overheated by its previous driver (who was NOT bratsco1), someone who was apparently not a car person, let alone a Subaru nut. The PD found the ashtray inconvenient to use ... parked by ear... stuff like that. So our Brat needs a couple of things, and I was wondering what interior and trim will interchange with the wagons/hatchbacks/coupes. It needs a new tail-light, and I have heard that these are very specific to the year. It could also use a new dashtop; is this Brat only? It sure looks like my 82 wagon's. Once I get it up and running well, I have a D/R 5-speed waiting for it, some rear-disks, and some Toyota 6-lugs... though I will have to talk my wife into letting me put taller tires on it. Maybe an SPFI conversion. Or I have an EJ22 lying around... Happy, happy, joy, joy!!!
  16. It is a popular swap. I plan on doing it shortly to my new-to-me 82 Brat. The Ultimate Subaru Repair Manual has a writeup on what is involved, and there are many threads in the Old Generation forum that talks about this. The USRM article is: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/article.php?a=37 I can't figure out how to get Search to work right much of the time, and for 10 years I was responsible for a search-engine...
  17. You can run power to the compresor clutch and see if it turns on... but this will really only test the clutch electricals, the compressor mechanicals, and let you tell if the system has adequate refrigerant. Be careful not to run it for moe than a minute or so unless you can confirm that it has adequate refrigerant (i.e - check the siteglass, check temp coming out of vents).
  18. The hardest part of pulling the radiator, IMHO, is dealing with the mechanical fan, if fitted. If your car has AC, the fan/pulley is likely held on by nuts, and if not AC they are likely bolts. My wagons are turbos, so have a thicker radiator core so I have little option except to remove the mechanical fan. I have large hands, so fitting them into tight places is no fun. (It would be easier if there weren't those darned child-labor laws! ) Also, if you have an automatic (I assume that you do not) you also need to remove the ATF cooler lines. So... Fans, Hoses, 2 bolts on frame's radiator support, and out she comes!!! There are two locating pins and rubber bushings on the bottom of the radiator that need to fit back into the holes in the frame during refitment. Antifreeze (ethylene glycol) is a terrible neurotoxin, is sweet tasting, and very attractive to animals. Alternate formulations use propolene (sp) glycol, which in itself far less toxic, though the additives still are not healthy to ingest.
  19. The Progenitor... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=23639
  20. I won't have time to check until sometime this weekend. But I do have the car and the meter. I also seem to recall that someone has posted that there is a difference between XT (XT6???) TPS and "normal" Ea82T's TPS. My foggy memory suggests that the progression was reversed between the two.
  21. Well, that makes at least 3 USMB Claytons in the PNW. I know one in southern WA.
  22. Our version of Checker from the CSK group, Schucks, lists them from 4 or 5 different vendors.
  23. I don't have any insight, but here's a ... BUMP
  24. Check your ignition timing before you mess with pulling the distributor. If the timing is right, then the distributor shouldn't need to be pulled to move it one tooth. But while you are in the area of the distributor, and with the cap off, wiggle the rotor/distributor shaft from side to side and up and down to check for worn bushings. Also, don't overlook the obvious of marginal ignition parts (plugs, wires, et al). Unless the distributor bushings are really worn, I would throw my vote in for a vacuum leak (including EGR valve stuck open). Most of the problems sounded carb/intake/vacuum related.
