  1. the car may not be ideal but this thing is far from a handicap. the mustang is way cheap to run. especially compared to the GN WRX he used to run. yeah, mark is one of the top privateer drivers in the country. he just got tired of the schedule and cubic dollars needed to win the national championships. he decided to swap those cubic dollars for some cubic inches. this car used to have a sticker on it that read "Got Torque?". here is a pic that shows the true appeal of the mustang: this thing is all about grins per mile, crowd appeal and giving people who foolishly moon him road rash on the cheeks. this was a small regional event. not to many evos run in the mn, iowa, wisc. area. there are a few down in chicago that are active but most of them are on the coasts. this is a good sample of what runs in the area. there are a few more VW teams, a couple RX-7s and sentras in the area too that were not at the event. when the results are posted they will be here: http://rally-america.com/events/2009/Nemadji1a/ under the "ENTRIES" tab. since it is a smaller event the times might not be up for a couple days.
  2. the car was originally built by the guy driving the Capri. the mustang has won many events overall and had many G5 wins as well. it has the biggest motor allowed by the rules stuffed in there. the driver is a mutliple national champion in G5 and PGT so he sort of knows what he is doing. it handles really well but he cant use the full throttle all the time. i believe it gets wheelspin in every gear. he won this event. the mustang is also very good at moving gravel from the roads to the ditches. the red S-10 is pretty cool too. right now it has a LS-1 in there that has been moved back and down a few inches. it is a new cab on a 87 2 door blazer frame with fiberglass bed sides and fenders. that thing has some crazy baja style suspension on it with a tremedous amount of travel. it sounds amazing. L is such a great class. if i were building an awd car for rally that is the class i would go for. i hope it becomes more than a stepping stone for people getting their coefficients to run a turbo car. it has the potential to be a really great drivers class and have a pretty reasonable budget too.
  3. that was nice of you to set that one shot up for us to see the bottom of your car. looks like fun.
  4. i would put good money on it being a bad coolant temp sensor. just replaced mine on my 95 with 275,000 miles. this one does need to have the code cleared by more than just cutting power to the ECU for some reason. could be crank and/or cam seonsor too. there was a recall on them on my 95. perhaps it extends to yours too since it was a a early build. if so the dealership will replace them for free.
  5. yes, but you cant buy a 89 legacy in the US since the first year for a USDM legacy was a 90.
  6. your post helped me. thanks a ton. funny how the obvious stuff like patching the pin holes gets missed. hopefully mine isnt too bad.
  7. just replaced mine last week. that is what i paid at the dealership. my handle broke too on one hinge. had to do the same thing and push the handle down before closing to keep the hatch closed. the gate opens and closes just fine now. it is a easy swap. the "hardest" part was getting the arm out of the old handle bracket. i just used a channel locks and squeezed the hell out of it untill it pushed out.
  8. not a bad decision at all. however, get those promises in writing. is this at a subaru dealership? one thing to look at is the future. traveling with kids in the future (if you dont have any now) is much easier in a nice modern legacy. either way you are allready on the right path with a subaru wagon. i love my 95 legacy wagon. it has 274,000 miles on it. it is getting a bit rough around the edges and needs some work but it should make it one more year if we take good care of it.
  9. i think i am gonna bit the bullet and lift the wagon. got a line on a full set of forester struts for 75 bucks. the guy says they were sloid when he took them off recently. but hell for 75 i am getting 4 struts/springs and top mounts. and they only have to last for at least a year.
  10. looks like fun. i miss my old dual range 3 door.
  11. 350 for a 87 3 door coupe with dual range 5mt. that car was a blast to drive around in. wish i still had it.
  12. you will love the ej22t in that car. double the torque and double the HP in stock trim.
  13. awesome. i would love to see that. i think i am going to do the same. found a set of 01 forester struts/springs/mounts for a good price that i am thinking of getting and putting on my 95 wagon. best part is that my wife thinks it looks pretty cool.
  14. do you know whose car that is? is it just forester struts and springs or is there something else going on under there too. thanks in advance. my 95 legacy wagon needs new struts and my wife thinks it is too low as it sits now. not looking for an offroader just more ride height so it is easier to get in and out of since she is having some back problems with a ruptured disk. plus it looks cool.
  15. it seems to be working now. i was feeling very isolated for a minute or two.
  16. also older cars had a metal seperator plate and newer ones use plastic. the plastic ones will leak eventually while the metal ones are not as likely to leak if at all. just replaced mine @220,000 it was plastic and it had been leaking for a long time. finally got real bad this spring. greg
  17. some years even had this part recalled. i got the cam and crank sensors on my 95 replaced for free! yeah. how is that for customer service?
  18. hey all you subaru junkies in MN come on out for a day of fun in the dirt trying to avoid knocking cones over. The next round of the Land o' Lakes/Bloomington Subaru rallycross series will be held on Sunday September 21 at the Donovan Motorsports Park in Rochester, Minnesota. The schedule will be as follows: Registration/Tech. inspection 10:00-11:45 Driver/Worker meeting 11:45-12:00 Competition 12:00- ? Entry Fee's are $25 for SCCA members and $30 for non-members We will try to get a total of six timed runs in. But, as you know that depends on efficient group changes and EVERYONE helping out. If you have a job you really want to do contact me ahead of time please. The Donovan Farm is a short 1.5 hour drive from the Bloomington area. In the past there has been some confusion regarding directions that should not be a problem this time. From the North: Travel south on Hwy. 52 through Rochester then exit onto Hwy. 63 south. After going .8 miles on 63 take a right onto 40th st. south for 4.8 miles then you will take a left onto 60th ave. south and the Donovan farm is .3 mles on the right. Along the way on 40th you wil pass a go-kart track on your left at about 1.7 miles and you will cross Bamber Valley Road at 2.7 miles. There will be RallyX signs as you get closer to the farm. At this time food will not be provided, however, that could change if i get enough confirmed and definate interest ahead of time. There is a Subway on the frontage road along 63 its about 10 min. away so plan accordingly. There will be a parking area for trucks and trailers at the farm because the access road to the field will not accomodate them becuse it passes through a wooded area with limited clearance and some turns that may be too tight for trailers. There is no hazard to cars on the driveway to the track. Thanks, Greg Donovan :burnout:
  19. i am definately throwing in a vote for the yokohama avid h4 it is probably the best all season for the money. great in snow and wet good on gravel and ok on ice for an all season. of course nothig is great on ice except maybe a blizzak or a hakkapelitta. but they arent allseasons now are they? the avid is good on dry too. its got a reall funky tread design that works to enhance dry grip. greg
  20. there is a justy that is consistently in the top three at every rallyx it enters. it is a totally gutted fwd, no glass except windscreen, plasma torched doors and no rear hatch. we usually have 30-50 cars and one car that the justy beats or is close to is a rally wrx driven by the current group n scca prorally points leader and 4th overall in driver points. the car has been dubbed the rally go kart or that damn justy! i want one! greg
  21. i would like some more info on the legacy 5 lug swap please. greg
