  1. You would be surprised how much just a new air and fuel filter will help;) I worked wonders for me (not surprising as they hadnt been changed for over 100,000kms) Im working on a new exhaust for my carbed ea82 which involves replacing the crappy y join and goin 2 inch from there back. yet to find a new coil (i havent seen an Accel coil in Aust yet but we have Bosch ones with a external resistor, is this equivilent to the super shock?) Good luck mate:cool:
  2. Hey fellow Sube owners I have recently seen ads on tv advertising the HiClone fuel saver (Aust) also known as the tornado, and was wondering if anybody has had any experience with these tricky little devices. Do they work??? Are they worth the AU$160??? Can you make a homemade one??? :-\
  3. Sounds awsome:banana: About a month ago I was looking at a friends speedboat which had a 351 in it, it was huge, and i thought why couldnt you do it on a smaller scale with a sube motor:D I assume that u r gonna use water to intercool the turbo'd air Do you have to treat the waterjacket in the engine to protect it from the salt? How much power are you expecting gain from it? Good luck P.S. i hope to see some pictures of construction GO GO AUSSIE INOVATION!!!
  4. Ive noticed that my rear tires wear more on the outside than the inside and i assume this is because the rear of my wagon most of the time is unlaiden and there is no weight in it so the rear tires dont sit flat on the road, but more like this \ \ ---0--- / / (if you can imagine that is the rear axle and tires)
  5. I hate to be a pain but i realy need to know if the length of the pipes from the heads matters in your opinion, should i join the pipes on the stock place, before the tranny or make them longer and join after the tranny i assume i should try to make em the same length (the stock ones are of different length, by about 2ft) thanks to anyone who can help
  6. As far as your starting problems, it could be the solenoid in the starter motor (maybe) this could explain why it wont work with known good batteries but sometimes just works. try by tapping the solenoid lightly with a hammer while turning the key (you will need 2 people)
  7. Is there anywhere in Australia i can get these stickers (im interested in the 4WD sticker and a SUBARU window sticker)
  8. The y pipe was my main focus point. Does the length of them matter,.... is the longer they are before they join the better or is there a 'happy-medium' length they should be?
  9. I was thinking of making a kind of 'header' (if thats what it is called) for my n.a. Subie to gain a little power. the Y pipe that comes from the engine joins like more of a T than a Y and the 2 pipes are of different length, this setup i assume is less than ideal. SSSSSOOOOO......... i was thinking of buying some exhaust pipe and constructin my own header. This is how i imagine it 2 pipes running from the engine (prob stock size, to aid scavanging, please advise on this if i am wrong) these 2 pipes will join behind the tranny into a 2 & 1/2 pipe (proper Y join) and then go to CAT, turbo muffle ect How do you think this will work, will i gain much benefit from it (im looking for low to mid range power, like for general driving, not for a race car) Thanks guys
  10. i have never dealt with this problem personally but have seen other posts where the cause of tachometer problem is a badly grounded alternator i.e. the earth is not a solid electrical connection. do a search and you should find a way to correct this:banana:
  11. Cheap and easy, replace ur fuel filter I had similar problems about a 2 weeks ago and the fuel filter was filthy:drunk: Bought a new one and BINGO
  12. thanks for the replys guys as i am a student, i do not have the money or current knowlege do perform this operation just as yet, but it may be something i can do in the future. does a dual carb setup decrease fuel ecconomy much??? will it effect any of the vaccum devices or emmission systems??? is this how it would be set up??? | | | | | |_______| | | _______ | _| |_______| |_ / \ | ea82 | \_______________/
  13. Hi Guys I was just thinking the other day when looking at my brothers Alfa- romao Is it possiable to dual carb an ea82 How i imagine it is a hitachi carb sitting directly above each inlet port, one on either side if the engine. i.e. without the inlet manifold, would this work? i have very little knowlege of mechanics or carbs but i was just curious??
  14. Is the noise it is making normal or does it indicate a problem (a blocked hose between the tank and the charcoal canister) ? The rattle only lasts for about 10 seconds, but can happen at any time, when the car is running, when its not, and it can happen even if the car hasnt been running:banghead: P.S. I havent been able to get the filler cap off in time to check it before it stops
  15. Hey There is a strange noise coming from the fuel pump area (located near fuel tank) It is undescribable, but similar to.. (u know the syphon hoses with the marble in the end) similar vibrating noise to that. But the strange thing is that it does it whether the car is running or not. BTW.... is it normal to have pressure in the fuel tank, as in, when i take off the filler cap, fuel vapour hisses out. thanks guys
  16. I think i have fixed the Problem, Fuel Filter. Im still thinkin of changin my coil for a performance boost though Thanks to all you guys who added your 2 cents, its great to know there is somewhere i can ask questions about ONE OF THE BEST cars ever made:grin:
  17. If it is any help,... the problem worsens for if i accelerate realy heavily, like pedal to the floor. I noticed this when it started to happen so i flattened her out in second gear and it accelerated normally for about 3 seconds then the problem set in realy bad, like realy BAD!!! It seemed to fire for a second, stall for a second about 8 times in a row then would start to improve if i eased off the accelerator. Hope this is of any help
  18. I shall explain the exact nature of the power loss When accelerating or climbing a hill,.. occasionally (sometimes only once a day, sometimes several, sometimes not at all) the engine will shudder & stall, like die comlpetly for a few seconds then pick up then do it again. When it stalls, it deaccelerates quicker than just removing my foot from the acclerator, as if it is killed comlpetly. This condition usualy lasts for less than 10 seconds but sometimes the car will be sluggish for a few minutes afterwards. Thanks guys
  19. What causes the compressor to cycle on and off every few minutes??? To clear any possiable confusion,... My air-con cycles (on then off every few minules) as normal when the weather is cool. (i can tell it is cycling cos when the compressor comes in i feel the engine load, accompanied by a click) BUT when the weather is warm, the compressor comes on only once and i can only make it continue by constantly switching off and on the A/C button. I hope this makes sense:-\
  20. yah its carbed U mentioned timing and it made me think... could i have an advance prob cos it is only intermittent and usually happens when under load
  21. ive ruled out the vent cos i can change the air temp between ambient temp and realy hot. Is the expansion valve the device inside the dash which clicks as the air-con cycles on and off every few minutes. cos when it isnt working,.. it dosent click (except for when u turn it first on,.. it cools the air, clicks again and then thats it) until you switch the air-con off then on again then it will cycle once more. It only does this during warm days
  22. I have an Aussie 92 Dl wagon EA82 OHC naturally aspirated
  23. I checked the sight glass and it looks bubbly,.. it seems to cool effectively but only for a few minutes during warm weather. i used it the other nite when i drove in the rain and it cycled on and off every few minutes (noticeable by a decrease in power and a click in the left hand dash) im thinking along the lines of the temp sensor in the dash, is there a way to check it?
  24. Thanks guys I wont be able to get a new filter until next week just out of curiousity,. it couldn't be choke or throttle valve related could it because it is only intemittent, as in in may go a few weeks without happening but sometimes happens a few times in a row
