  1. Is there anyone who has attempted this before??? Are there any guidelines I have to follow on the placement of the injectors???
  2. Is the 87> system much more comlpex, wouldn't elect controlled spark be better,.. better advance curves??? These are the parts needed for the spfi conversion (i assume the MPFi will be the same, only with 4 injectors) ECM Wiring harness Ignition and fuel pump relays Fuel pump intake manifold MAF Coil and disty O2 sensor Anything I have missed out???
  3. Arent the MPFI injectors mounted at the end of the intake, just above the head,... this is where i was planning to put my injectors, only i will have 2 in each end. How more comlpex is the MPFI over the SPFI system. Can it be compared to the SPFI in the carb to spfi canversion manual. Could i use non subaru parts (dont throw rocks at me, i just wanna save money) see'ing that i need to make up an intake adaptor, could i use a different throttle, ecu, injectors, fuel pump and make them work with the subaru disty?
  4. Thanks for the support,. i cant see why it wouldnt work, it would be the same as the spfi conversion, only with 4 injectors mounted on the ends of the intake and modified to bolt the throttle body and tps onto (I also can't see why it couldn't be turbo'd) But I need way more information first, and money
  5. From what I have gathered, not experience, the ea82 and ea81 distys are slightly different, i think the teeth have to be ground off or the mounting studs need modification or something like that. sorry i cant be more helpful
  6. I was considering the carb to spfi conversion, but somebody from ausubaru.com told me that the spfi wasn't released in Aus. Soooo.... why not drill holes in my carb manifold, just before the heads, put in the mpfi injectors, ecu, fuel pump, disty and adapt the throttle body to where the carb bolted on and presto,.... MPFI:brow: Has it been done, can it be done, what could be my major setbacks ????????
  7. Wasn't the Quattro san hatch a turbo carb??? Look at this http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=23639&highlight=quattro
  8. In the carb to spfi conversion manual, it states that the wire for the speed sensor is ini different positions between the Tach version and the version without tach, does somebody have a diagram with the pinouts of the plugs???
  9. I Want to put the instrument panel from a Gl (has a tach) to my Dl (no Tach) Are the plugs on the back the same or do i have to change some wires about?
  10. When mine blocked, it would squeel/whistle if i reved it up high, not to mention the extreme lack of power, and no exhaust pulses from the tailpipe
  11. A guy has an instrument cluster out of his GL which has a Tacho he will give me IS there a differene between the connectors on the back of the dash In the spfi conversion manual, is a diagram of the speed sensor wire and it is different on the one with the tach compared to the one without does anyone have a schematic of the wiring so i can work this out THANKS

  13. I was talking to a mechanic the other day and he suggested a blocked idle jet. so i will pull off the cover and clean it out I have removed the exhaust air injector and plugged the hole, but my exhaust gasket is shot and leaks. It runs fine at speed, just wont idle. Im considering a SPFI conversion, but i need more money, the wreckers wanted $120 for the Throttle body and $150 for the ECU I was also looking at a MPFI swap
  14. The story is as follows,.. Slight overheat (didn't boil), wouldn't idle , week later > Cat converter Blocked, gutted it, Swapped fuel float, Still runs like POO!!! and also clicks down the exhaust (a small backfire i think) on de-acceleration. What the hell happened to a car that 2 weeks ago ran like a dream????? Any suggestions are welcome
  15. I'm gonna hi-jack here as well... What is the difference between the spyder intake and the normal mpfi intake?
  16. It started with a slightly overheated engine, then it wouldn't idle and now my cat is blocked,. GRRRRRR:banghead: On the way home this-morning, I had trouble reaching over 50km\h and the engine was making a hissing and squeeling sound when I reved it. I walked around my car and noticed that the sound from the tail pipe was not the regular "dub dub dub dub".... it was a "shhhhhhhhhhhhh" I assume that my carb is running rich (skip suggested fuel percolation and sinking float valve-> dunmping fuel) and the excess fuel has cooked my cat. What to do,...... I was planning a new exhaust system but not this soon Does anyone have a detailed explanation of how to fix my carb?
  17. I couldn't tell if the fuel was coming out of the primary jet before (cos i couldnt start the engine and get to the front of the car in time) but since i adjusted the ilde speed screw, it is now and its only idling at normal speed (i turned the screw about 2 full turns)
  18. Does this mean pulling my carb apart? My old man told me that pulling the carb apart usually means trouble getting it to run again once it is put back together Is there any way to test if it is the diognosis you gave ?
  19. In my previous post i told how my carb gave me trouble after my engine got hot. (refer to post,.. "My wagon died from heat exhaustion,.. why") I adjusted my idle speed up and now it idles ok. Is the fuel supposed to be coming out of the primary jet when it is idling, (dosen't the idle jet do this while the throttle is closed?) Why should my idle speed have changed? Thanks
  20. Still wont idle,... dies at every intersection and stop sign:banghead: But runs fine on the highway (did 300 km's today without any trouble, cruise at 100km/h all the way) Does a carb normally produce a sucking/restricted vaccum sound with the air cleaner off? Secondary valve looks shut Could the overheating have changed my idle mixture or the idle setting? My temp gauge never leaves the 1/4 range mark (except on tuesday) Here is that picture (i hope this is how to post it)
  21. I took off the air filter cover and started the engine, i could hear a loud sucking air sound i have never heard before, but it would die after about 3 seconds
  22. I havent noticed a loss of coolantToday it ran fine, but this afternoon, it wont idle, dies instantly when i remove my foot from the accelerator, but it seems to run normally once its reving Has my mixture or idle setting changed since I overheated yesterday? I'm planning a SPFI conversion once i can find parts ect. (the wreckers want $300 just for the ECU and Injector body)
  23. It wasn't battery problems, i tried to start it 6 or so times with no evidence of low batttery. The biggest issue was that it would idle and rev, but soon as I put into gear and let out the clutch, it would die, even if I gave it like half throttle and rode the clutch:banghead: If it happens again i will see if WOT works straight away, it looks like its gonna be another scorcher today Thanks for your responses, I was kinda worried it mite be something more serious
  24. Thanks, you are a True Blue Champion The main question was ... which is better, the factory pipe of differnt lengths each side, or a custom one of equal lengths? BTW, the shop wanted $650 to do a 2" cat back with one turbo mufler, including a hi flo cat., i'll do it myself Are the gains the guy stated, are these true? 84hp stock (carb ea82) X 15% = close to 97hp
  25. There was a crash on the highway where a police paddy wagon clipped a Corolla, (1 fatality, 1 serious condition) traffic backed up for ages. anyway,.. i was in the traffic with the air-con on for about 15 minutes, (36 deg.c afternoon) when the traffic started moving, i noticed my engine was idling realy low, but as soon as i put it into gear it went wierd. It spluttered, choughed and stallled, as soon as i put the engine under load it would die. WHY Temp gauge was up about 1/2 (usually sits at about 1/4) I tried a few more times but no luck, so i sat there and talked to the traffic directors for about 20 minutes After that i tried again, a bit better until i gave it WOT for a few seconds in neutral, and after that it was fine, WHY????
