  1. My ideal tranny 5sp Dual range, with a decent low range, (id love to put a chain on my tow ball and pull a ricer backwards in a towing comp) AWD with a lockable centre Which is pretty much what RenaissanceMan said, i think
  2. i went to a mechanic today and put it on a hoist He said it sounds like the DOJ echoing through the whole front drivetrain making it hard to diagnose, but then i told him where i bought the CV's and he told me that guy puts new boots on old shafts and sells them again. Im goin to a driveline shop and gonna get them checked, then get a written statement that they are stuffed, and gonna get my money back
  3. What is ur car? Is it Carb'd, SPFI, MPFI, Turbo A little more info would help Cheers Gannon
  4. I have a clunking noise in the front drive train somewhere that i cant find I have 3 month old CV's which i installed myself The noise always happens on a very steep hill (2nd gear job) on my way to work The whole car seems to jolt while it is clunking I lifted the front off the ground with 2 car jacks and put it in gear, makes no noise, apply the brakes slightly and the noise appears, the harder on the brakes, the louder the noise Any suggestions please, im desperate Could it be my wheel bearings or my tranny and diff Cheers Gannon
  5. I second the downpipe cat when my cat blocked, i couldnt rev over 2K and it got worse the hotter the engine got Your blocked cat was prob caused by the broken belt -> Fuel was getting pumped in the cylinder but not being burnt -> unburnt fuel in cat melted it. Mine melted when my carb was running too rich
  6. I always thought they were refered to as the "L Series" or maybe that is just down here
  7. i just had an idea,.. what if you got an expanding toggle bolt, put it into the pilot hole and tightened it so it expands and then unwind it,.. dunno your exact situation nor have i tried it but its just a passing thought:drunk:
  8. Classic, absolute classic:drunk: Does this imply something about working on the timing belts???
  9. Does it remind you of yourself, i know it does for me:brow: http://www.ozsupra.qld.org/web/stuff/stuff_sherpa.htm Its a good laugh anyway:lol:

  11. My Brother wants to buy a 85 sherpa for $300. what are the motors like? are they a good car? can i get more power out of them? Thanks
  12. I like the idea of Canary Yellow (is it like the Holden Monaro Yelow?) a yellow brumby would be unique,..... although that montreal blue looks nice:brow:
  13. ive done a panel swap from non tach to tach on my wagon I had to run a new wire from the neg (i think) side of coil to the dash,. easy as pie the hardest part is putting it back together while keeping the heater control pipes in place
  14. New news, the engine has been put up for sale on ausubaru.com http://www.ausubaru.com/ausubaru/html/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=3452&highlight= $1500

  16. Well because i dont own an RX, so this isnt definate, but the exhaust system is 1 & 3/4" or maybe 1 & 7/8" Is it a straight through muffler, ie. you can see through it, in this case i know u can use it anyway u like. Here is a pic of mine
  17. i made NA tuned pipes, equal lenght, they improve lower end power and it seems to run much better i worked it out so that the volume of each pipe between head and Y collector equaled the cylinder volume that feeds the pipe 1.8lt motor, 2 cyls per head, > 0.9lt per pipe @ 1& 3/4" pipe = 28" or thereabouts per pipe I think that having the pulses consistent rather than tuned scavanging is more important to the turbo because of the steady air flow I may be wrong but that is my opinion:drunk:
  18. Well the ea81 is the engine found in subarus made between 1979 and 1984 and brats, the ea82t is the turbo version, and the ea82 is the engine found in subes made 1985 till 1994, it came in Carburettured, Single Piont Fuel Injection (SPFI) and Multi Point FI (MPFI) and it also came in a turbo version - ea82t anything else?
  19. A friend (14 y.o.) saw a Black L Wagon, huge exhaust, 6 spotties on the roof, with Flames painted on the side take off at speed from the Traffic Lights. This is a boy who likes Skylines, Lancers ect. and he thought this was cool. Any idea on who owns it and details on the car? Im gonna post this on the Ausubaru forum as well
  20. I have a Gregories book I says that the 79 - 84 models had ballast resistor. I have read that the resistor is used to privide a voltage drop for a lower impedence coil so that when cranking, when the voltage is less, the voltage drop is less, and the coil recieves a voltage closer to 12v when starting But dont quote me on that:drunk:
  21. Im gonna jack up my car and shake every joint and linkage in the suspension and steering and see if i can funs where it is coming fromIs it possiable for the front diff or the splined shafts on the gear box to make this noise, it can also be felt
  22. Good point wagonist:drunk: we wouldnt want flaming sube In the place of the spare tyre maybe?
  23. Ball joints as in the ends of the steering rack? Struts are a bit worn I still believe it has something to do with the driveline cos when its making the noise, if i back off the throttle it goes away But please any suggestions welcome Thanks
  24. Before anyone asks, these are 3 month old CV shafts there is a clonking noise from the front driveshafts area, that is heard when the car is under load, but not always, can be when going straight or round bends. It is more a clonk rather than a click Please help cos it is getting worse
  25. when i pulled off my dash, the connectors are colour coded, white - white, blue - blue, brown- brown and the ones from the tell-tale should only go into its partner
