  1. Changing the length of the pipes before the y collector will change where your extractors create a peak in power I made mine so the volume of the pipe before the collector equaled the displacement of the cylinders feeding,... in my case each pipe had a volume of 0.9 lts. Look it up on google, there are a lot of subarus in small airplanes in which the exhaust is tuned to create peak power at a set engine rpm.
  2. Yeah Australia is kinda too far to send and entire exhaust Yeah the exhaust shop bent the pipes where i needed it when i bought the lengths of pipe. I just cut to size and welded them up. BTW,... i still havent got around to adding the cat....... Ooops:rolleyes:
  3. Has anybody ever tapped their mpfi head for the oil and water lines, cos thats what im planning, seeing that the turbo head i have has a crack between the exhaust and the coolant passages. On a slightly different note, has anybody put a turbo on a mpfi block and kept the mpfi NA ecu,.. thats the 87 and on ecu? thanks guys
  4. I made one, but i dont know the gains of the equal length, as i upgraded the entire exhaust in one go, but it is definately better than stock. Here is mine... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=35411
  5. So does that mean they can be re-mapped, but we just have to find a way to do it:brow: Gannon
  6. The ea82 na disty is set at 8deg cos the advance unit advances the timing beyond 8deg when the weights and the vaccum come into action. The turbo disty, on the other hand, is set at 20deg cos that is its max timing advance, then the ecu than retards the timing as it needs to. Im pretty sure that that is how it works;) Gannon
  7. I have a 92 DL and i have power mirrors, air con, rear defrost/wiper and hill holder, i didnt get power steer, electric locks or windows and the rear boot light, or glovebox light
  8. My faves,... Pull to wipe wiper switch, lights off with ignition, I like the center dash display the most,.. it shows what door is open, when in it in 4wd & Lo range,.. and the highbeam indicators are shown at the front of the picture of the car... I LOVE IT!!! Well i actually love the whole car,... except for the undersized radio compartment. GO GO 4WD & Boxer & Turbo & Everything we love about our soobs. (btw... ive never read another car forum, but to other car owners love their cars as much as we do?)
  9. Yeah, i also found that out the hard way, which resulted in me yelling at my girlfriends little brother (who just happened to be standing nearby) to find things to plug the holes. Luckily he came back with 2 philips head screwdrivers that actually were the right size to plug the rubber lines.
  10. Stick with it!!! I had mates that said my soob was ugly (they never knocked its mechanical abilities) until they saw a RX sedan with a wrx ej20t. Now they dont care what old soobs look like. Stick with it buddy
  11. What are my options on aftermarket roofracks?? Do you have Rola racks in the USA? Pics would be great Cheers
  12. Thanks guys, every little bit of info is helpful I plan on using a water-air intercooler possiably off the liberty (legacy) but there are others around. Im just collecting info for when i start this project possiably early next year cheers guys Gannon
  13. is there any clearence issues with the td04 in its stock position? ie. with the comp outlet facing the engine block? Has anyone done a td04 conversion manual ? How about we get a td04 conversion thread goin? Cheers guys Gannon
  14. I believe that the compressor outlet on the td04 points into the engine compared to the vf7 (is that what the stock turbo is called?) which points up. How do you, those who have a td04, mount it? Can you rotate the compresor housing to make the outlet point up? Ive done a search and found how to move the stud on the up-pipe so it will bolt up And what mods have to be done to the oil lines and water? Cheers guys Gannon
  15. Are we talking an older soob with a worked ea82t or an ej20t conversion? in Aust.. One guy ....88 wagon, 93 JDM EJ20T (TDO5H), his starting point is 185 FW kw there was another that has a really WORKED ea82t in a rx sedan, i think it had 260hp (dont quote me on that) I will check these
  16. Thats awesome cos I have plans to turbo my na block. and turbo ecu's arent that easy to come by. Ooh ooh ohh im excited now:banana:
  17. You said that it uses the stock ecu for idle and cruise (for fuel economy) and the emanage takes over during boost So does this mean that the emanage could be applied to a NA ecu so that it could run a turbo??? THAT WOULD BE AWSOME:brow:
  18. Look at the above pic On a subaru crankshaft, the piston rods connect to the crankshaft at 180 degrees apart, (ie. cyl 1 at 0 deg, cyl 2 at 180 deg, cyl 3 at 180deg and cyl 4 at 0 deg. Whereas a inline engine is at ( cyl 1 at 0 deg, cyl 2 at 90 deg, cyl 3 at 180 deg and cyl 4 at 270 deg) So i believe that this may contribute to the boxer sound, but it is probably a combination of this and the header design. Gannon
  19. Awesome, whar mods do you have on that motor? And i love that hood scoop:slobber: i wonder what it would lok like on an L series? Gannon
  20. Imagine if somebody could find a way to fit one of those new VW Golf TDI motors in a soob:brow:
  21. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=23639 This is the quattro san thread, the first paragraph has mentions of the ea81 diesel and the ea81 dohc which were developed by Western Washington University along with the first turbo ea81, using a SU carburettor
  22. I thought the stock exhaust pipe size was 1 & 3/4 inch I have a hotdog in the middle and a sports (straight through) muffler at the rear - Sounds Sweet
  23. I have thought of this too:brow: But the question is,.. at what rpm does this primary turbo spool up on the ej? This is the sort of turbo ive been thinking about putting on a NA block Id like boost from before 2K rpm But I could be dreaming:rolleyes: Gannon
  24. You could set up a plumb back BOV which is basically a BOV that instead of letting its air vent out into the atmosphere, it redirects it back before the turbo, and thus not confusing the MAF. The dashpot is a little device that slows the closing of the throttle, ie. Instead of the throttle plate snapping shut the instant you take your foot off the accelerator, it makes it shut gradually which in turn prevents the backpressure of air in the throttlebody. Hope this clears it up a little (and i also hope i have got it right ) Gannon
  25. I may be wrong, but wasn't there mention of a subaru diesel under development on the page about the Quattro san Hatch It was something about the college/university that developed the quattro san engine also was working a subaru diesel They were also devleoping the ea81 Dual cam, in which the ej series spawned from Gannon
