I have a 88 Vortex turbo motor and ecu that i want to put into my wagon I have a 89 Touring wagon with mpfi that i figure i will use its loom and add the required sensors and wires to use the Vortex ecu. Now the important stuff,... 1. Are the pinouts the same between year models, (eg 87 - 90) 2. Are the pinouts similar (except the obvious sensors for turbo) between turbo models and NA ones? 3. Are the pinouts similar between XT and L series models? and finally 4. Are there differences between the pinouts between US ECU's and Australian ECU's? If anybody has or could point me in the right direction as to where to find Ecu pinouts i would greatly appreciate it:D And General knowlege and advice is also great:cool: Cheers Gannon.

Opinions, losing water, no apparent signs

Cool, thanks Gary:banana: What is PB Blaster and why is WD40 no good? Is there any precautions i should take before welding, other than the obvious cover the intake, make sure there is no flamable stuff on the engine Cheers Gannon. -

Cheers, that was the anwser i was looking for I will pick up some new gaskets for the intake on wed when i go to tech. Any tips for removing the broken studs:brow: Cheers -
I just bought a vortex xt turbo ea82 motor and wiring loom ect from a guy who put the jap spec motor in his vortex. (his car is a weapon) Now, he said that it was using a little water (not much), but no steam from exhaust, no bubbles in radiator and no oil in water, where else could it go? Also, when he tried to remove the intake, he broke two of the studs off, the longest ones closest to the middle, luckily they protude out of the block. What should i do? 1. remove intake and fix bolts, fit new manifold gaskets, and see how it goes 2. remove heads, renew headgaskets ect (dont really wanna do this if i dont have to) Im open to suggestions Cheers in advance Gannon

ea82 dizy advance curve turbo vs NA
ausubaru92 replied to fredsub's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
On the NA Mpfi engines, 87>, the disty is set to 20deg also. This is because the ecu has the ability to delay the electrical signal to the coil as it needs to, (in much the same way as a guitar effects pedal applies a delay/echo to the sound) The timing is set to 20deg on cars with an optical sensor disty cos this is the max timing and the ecu electronically retards it depending on load, rpm, tps & temp signals ect. On cars with a mech disty, it is set to 8deg cos it then allows the vac and mech advance unit to 'advance' the timing as needed, based on manifold vac and engine speed (though crudely compared to elect disty) Hope this makes sence Gannon. -
This was a pretty recent thread http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=51531 Ross was dealing with modified cooling lines for his ea81turbo (i think that is what it was about) Gannon

Power mods, how much power per mod
ausubaru92 replied to ausubaru92's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yeah i should have made myself clearer, i meant the aircon with it switched on,.. cos it feels like engine power halves (well not really, but u know what i mean) I will do a search Cheers Gannon. -
I was thinking the other day, how much power does the Air con use? Then i thought, what if somebody dyno'd to see? And then i thought, has anybody dyno'd after every mod they have done to show how much power each mod makes? Somebody has prob mentioned this before but if there was a thread or chart that showed the power gain per mod, it would be cool Gannon

Electric Water Pump in subarus?
ausubaru92 replied to suburpy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If the normal water pump uses say,... 0.2 of a hp to operate. then wont you need a 0.2hp electric motor to do the same job. So the alternator must produce the electricity to power this 0.2hp motor plus more for heat and noise generated. I cant see how it would be any more effeciant, although i just though of the thing where it can cycle on and off It mite sound a bit pesemistic but i cant see any real gains Gannon. -
Congrats I see that some people have a custom thing that usually says 'eat live breathe subaru' or newbie ect What do you have to do to edit it? Cheers

Headlights make fuse box melt
ausubaru92 replied to SOOBOUTLAW's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
My money is on corrosion/rust ect. on and around the terminals of the fuse box If the fuses aren't blowing then the problem isn't too much current, you have what is known as a hot joint which is caused by a high resistance somewhere in the circuit, probably in your fuse box Get a little ammery cloth and clean the contacts on the offending fuses Hope this helps Gannon -

I wonder if sombody who workes in a plastic factory would like to copy these. I know that they would probably sell well

exhaust gaskets, attachment
ausubaru92 replied to Phizinza's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I made my gaskets thicker by wrapping them in several layers aluminium foil. When i re-welded my flanges on, one of them wasnt completly flat, and this way helps fill in the gap. Gannon -

Hey Fang The spider intake will fit both the mpfi and turbo heads A spfi manifold will bolt onto the carb heads, (there is a conversion manual floating around) but unforunately Australia didnt get any spfi Subes Gannon -

ausubaru92 replied to 95 super subbie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Ive always wondered how a sube would go in a demo derby, our local show has a derby but the ground is usually wet and most cars get bogged, a subaru in disguise would be awesome:brow: P.S. try to disguise a piece of railway girder behind your bumper bars, the other cars wont know what hit them:lol:
