Subybus getting there
I seen that one!!! gorgeous.. i don't member the color, but my father pointed it out a few years ago- must have gotten parts from his shop or something. Has anyone seen pictures of the chopped one in Loveland, CO that has the iron cross on the back windows- violent lime green and at one of the dealers on Lincoln? My buddy wound up, and he blew away my friends tacoma last night. HAHA, mike deserves that for running a 2.7L tacoma. He wrapped up and must have been running a straight pipe- it barked! plus the tires skid every time he shifted. I want to find out if that's a subie-powered. Good luck with prject heresy, that sounds awesome!!

car body weight
Foot rest don't come off, it's bent metal of the floorboard (well, not REALLY the floor board, but if you're taking it apart, you know what i mean-) It's not bolt on or nothing, it's a piece of the body. I will get a pic sometime, but basicly it's a warp thatlevels with the petals (i don't know if it's solely in automatic-i think it is) but your left foot rests on it so you can sit with both your legs bent the same way (not like old Skool where you have to put your knee bent and flat foot on the floor mat).

If you can get away with i, go laura style; i have a cat and it passes emissios, but no muffler and mine sounds really cool, and i am really happy with it. i haven't tried anything else.

Essential thread for new users
"where's the barf smiley?" = usually referring to some kid thinking he's cool by putting an aluminum wing on an RX for brats; Gen-1 = The ones with ROUND headlights (generation one) Gen-2 = you guessed it- square (rectangluar, rather...lol) headlights AWD = all wheel drive EJ = something from the nineties ( i wouldn't know.. ha) O/D = over drive (not popular, but i could use one)

Just bought my first Subi, 86 Brat, & I have some questions for my 1st post.
Drive the 4-speed around for a while, and you'll know that you need some 5-sp TLC. That is a pending step for my 81. A turbo would be nice, it is only a 1.8, but i'm in HS with a 7.25/hr job and some sketches.. would be all over it if someone handed me a $1000 check.. I paid $600 for a brat w/ a near dead clutch, a going-out axle (not...dead...yet...) no rust, a real faded paint job and 62000 miles. i thought that was about right, since it needed some major bondo and a coat of paint- see my website if you want to know anymore (right click my name and go to homepage). i don't know enough about yours to price it, but it is 5 yrs newer than mine. WELCOME TO THE MENTAL PROBLEM THAT IS BRAT OWNERSHIP.

1981 Subaru Problems!!
when i read your biopsy- this is exactly what came to mind. when your car floods itself at start-up, it's probably like my brat on a manual choke where you have to push the gas down for a second before you turn the key to set the choke.. if you're doing this, and your problem remains, i've had way similar problems on honda motorcycles- which are basicly scale models as far as choke goes. I have no idea where the choke settings on my brat are, i could look them up if anyone else agrees w/ my idea, but i think you hit the nail on the head if i had to guess.

nice GL! I learned to drive on a '89 GL bubble back (non-turbo, 5-speed) very fun, hope you like it. And you found the right place- USMB is good for us under-learned subie fans. My dad is a mechanic also, worked on(more like tore apart) subarus for 3 yrs.

hatch adjustment on RX?
uh, it's probably warped.. but obviously not FUBAR'ed. Trace your finger around the rubber gasket crap to look for irregularities you could get to with a vice (or vice grips and some little pieces of thick sheet metal) anything inside would allow the outside body to look flush when shut but prevent it from getting to actually latch. Look at the actual latch pieces if you haven't already, anything narked off? stick your finger in there and see if it bleeds? chances are some one slammed it too hard w/ something in there once and you'll end up ripping the back panel off and seeing if you could get a salvage replacement or something. Just as long as the key-lock part still works, shouldn't be such a deal if this is the problem. Having a different key for different doors sucks.. cough...BRAT.. cough

"It's more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow."
I like it when you take an RX and feel the pull as the turbo kicks on. That car is not a street racer, but it puts you back in the seat. Ny '81 sounds like a beast, so w/ enough revving to skip a gear and when you push the clutch it kind of barks. I've gotten it to 75 down hill at 4000, and not doing it again.

Piegon toed rear tires / \ need help with problem!
Seriously.. i'd leave it as long as i was sur there wasn't any ripage being done to anything that shouldn't be ripped, i'd have to look at it, but if you want to make a monster, leave it! or hand it over..

Met my 1st real life Subaru-nut yesterday
I don't know any. My father doesn't qualify, he only worked sube for 3 yrs. toys for 10. No one understands why the brat is so cool if i can't even speed without worrying (parkinglots excluded). It's better that way..but then again, i got pulled over for "overaccelerating" in a completely stock '92 SW automatic! I too, find salvation and reasurrance that there are others, in USMB

Immediate Opinions Needed!
My father is an instructor of automechanics at a Community College up here, having only 40 yrs of tinkering, 2 yrs of school, and 30 yrs as an ASE certified engine specialist. not to mention he can rebuild a 4 barreled carb in 14 minutes (it's true!!!), he's had the job since august. As far as claims; 1. the money is in the waiver. make them show you what you signed, and it may even be tacked to the WO in your car (i'm assuming they left it if they did everything else wrong) 2. The instructors at the government level can't do a whole lot, go straight for the department head. he has at least a little money distribution. 3. When you're putting up a case, mention what a bad word you're spreading (even if it isn't true) about both their educational program and about their service program. CC's are built solely on reputation. This being an issue not experienced by his campus, beyond that he suggests staying within the school, because it's likely the government and lawyers get you no where, and don't forget, if you collect, your towing cost.

First lifted run (PICS)
Sweet runs- and what a super dog. you talking about Alamosa sand dunes? what kind of runs are down there? i love going w/ a trail bike. very fun. TAKE MorganM's ADVICE! Jack and prop your subie rip the rims off of them (if you're trashin the existing tires, take them off yourself if possible- i don't know your access to tools or anything) put them in the back of your friends pickup, buy the tires and do it! If this doesn't work, visit your community college, if it's one like where my dad works, they'll do them as a demo and for cheap, if you have tires and rims.

how does your RX drive?
Arrow through my heart... I'm really small, so i do like the power steering in the RX, compared with my having to lead the brat around everyday. It feels like it turns on thought for me. But i can see how that could be annoying if you're not 5'2". Brake petal; mine is kinda weird, it's not consistant. it won't brake at all for the first part, then litely brake, but to get her to stop, it doesn't need to be at the floor. for me, i can get used to it, but i wish it was more gradual than the "either on or off" that it is. so i guess it's high/soft and low/hard.

What NOT to do...
straight up Corky! learned that just sitting around a scooby shop. dad causioned me against using napa OIL FILTERS. for cripes sake, no one but subaru. Sweet on the mod-ed WRX smack down. I had a MR2 behind me in my mildly modified RX on Saturday, and played tag in a FT4 with a mod-ed to hell CRX.

Who is in Boise or ID or close!!
Taking I-80- eh? Nebraska has a killer NPR system- listen to it through the whole state. Other than radio and complete lack of scenery, it's not a bad drive. I should know, driven it 2-4x per year since i was 14. Go slow through Omaha, they patrol that interchange like none other- and if you go through there during rush hr- 8-9a or 4-6p local time, try to find an alternate route around it, it's awful, far as traffic goes. Good luck in the Ramcharger!
