  1. Sounds like fun Instead of plugging the oil and coolant lines why not just route in some coolers?
  2. I spend the extra time and effort to wire up a relay under the hood and install a lighted switch in the cabin. Bleive I used your old schematic Skip? Anyway I'm very happy with the results. I just completly bipased the thermo switch since 2 of them had gone out.
  3. I'm 6'2" and have no issues sitting in old subarus. Iv'e sat in a GL wagon, hatch back, XT6, and a brat. None of which made me feel uncomfortable or like I didnt have enough room. I dont hit my head on anything, i have plenty of width and space between me and the dash. I dont even hit my knees on the steering wheel! Which is more then I can say for first gen legacies. I always had to lift the wheel to get out of that thing. Never have to do it in my EA82 wagon. Peace
  4. whats all that GREEN stuff growing in the background?!?! i got plenty of spare snow laying around to cover that crap up with just let me know how much you need! the lights look mint.
  5. yeeaahhhh dont think ill be making it to ricefest 2004...
  6. shooooot you know it! I know its not on the official itnerary but archemitis and I will be getting dirty in the soobz
  7. Add Archemitis to the Mabye list. I talked to him and he wants to go but hasnt gone to the thread here yet. I'll make him come here and commit
  8. Good call Adam; I totaly forgout about needing the fuel pump. Shouldnt need the tank.
  9. Hey glad to have you a board YOu guys get more dirty in a stock subaru the ME! Hats off  By the way can we see the final picture of that Justy screaming down that dirt hill??? Looks like a rough landing is ahead! lol
  10. here are 3 i whipped up. you might recognize the rigs http://www.mnchopshop.org/images/stomp01.jpg http://www.mnchopshop.org/images/stompers02.jpg http://www.mnchopshop.org/images/stompers03.jpg
  11. I dont think you will have many problems since you are familiar with going FI from carb. You dont need the heads at all. Just the intake manifold and everything that is attached to it. That's really the central nverouse system to the SPFI engine. plug all that junk into the ECU and you should be good to go.
  12. Well hopefully SOME of it is still there. If the 2 catalyitc converters are still on then you should be able to get by cheap with a mid pipe, a new muffler, some hangers, and labor. Just gonna have to assess what is left and call some shops telling them what you need. Replacment parts will be expensive so see what they can do for custom applications.
  13. When you start mixing oil and coolant and coolant starts squrting from random places on the head the cracks are too big Thats how I found out atleast! lol
  14. Looks like a lot of people have APR already schedueld out. Most any date works for me. Don't forget that 10APR is a holiday weekend! I already arranged a plan with my wife for that weekend if we do decide on it.
  15. I WANT BILLET ALUMINUM OR CARBON FIBER TIMING BELT COVERS PLS K THX !_! lol sriously tho; just grab some from the junkyard and hit them with some spray cleaner. good as new. what more do you need?
  16. An 84 GL could also be an EA82 carb model. I think we need to know if its an EA81 or EA82 engine before we start handing out oil pump replacment information becuase they are pretty different. 2Hawks: There is a stamp on your block right by the power steering pump (if so equped) that will say EA81 or EA82. This will determine where and how you will be working on the oil pump. To answer your question on 'will i have to dissassemble the front half of my engine to do this?' the answer is Yes, have fun Nothing you couldnt do in a weekend but this is an involved repair.
  17. metal coat hangers are the best! I spent well over $30 in different types of brackets to hold my veriouse exhuast systems to my car. NONE of them would stay tight! And yes I did use locktite. I even went as far as nylon lock nuts. They would come loose and my exhuast would start dragging. Still use coat hangers to this day. Good thing we dont have visual inspections anymore Maybe one of these days Ill have an exhuast shop weld on some hangers hehe
  18. Count me in! Can't wait I'll be coming in my poopenwagen and maybe a friend. Definatly will have my nitro RC truck if you guys are bringing RCs
  19. They are just that... rumors. I called about 10 Subaru dealerships around the state of IL. Nobody has heard anything. The new Legacy is being debued this year and there will be some touring local dealiership events but no big event. The only thing on the Subaru online calander for the midwest is the big auto show. This isnt just a Subaru event tho this is for all automakers. I called Subaru also and spoke with someone there. They too said the only events they show in IL was the auto show. I think if there is going to be any significant Subaru event in the midwest this year WE NEED TO MAKE IT HAPPEN! :D
  20. Iowa would be perfect! Camping and offroading would be ideal. Maybe we could find a place that has both on site. April-June would be nice. I wont be able to make the WCSS 6 becuase my wife is going to Vegas during that time frame (late july early august)
  21. I guess nobody specified untill now but I'm talking all Outside Diamter. You are right Mike they are double walled and the Inside Diamter is slightly smaller. They also use crush bends and not mandrel bends which again cuts in on the ID.
  22. After watching archemetis go through making his webber fit and work only to really not be happy with its ultimate performance I'm sticking with my SPFI. Its simple, its solid and has given me no troubles. As for performance the computer should make up for any changes you do, to a certain point. It will adjust for more air flow if you flow the intake and heads. With a weber you will be under the hood for hours tuning it. Now going FI on an carb'ed engine is kind of a whole different deal. In your case it would be easier to make a weber fit then monkeying with a computer and sensors on an engine that wasnt designed for them. Even the hours you spend tuning it wouldnt surpase the hours you will be spending figuring out how to adapt SPFI to your EA81 I guess how difficult of a job are you up to is the real question?
  23. OH good old exhuast. What a mystery it really is when you start making your own setups. So far here is what I've learned on my EA82 SPFI OEM exhuast. 1 7/8" the whole way. An even strike between low end and top end. Ran great and sounded lame. Dual 2" straight pipes to cherry bombs. No cross over. No cats. No y pipe. Ths resulted in no REAL power before 4000 RPMs. Ran okay and sounded good. Home made Y pipe using OEM headers, custom bends, OEM cat (gutted out) and a mid-pipe back to a glasspack (tractor muffler) This was 1 7/8" the whole way with crush bends. Had great low end power that pulled all the way too 5000 RPMs. Ran great and sounded good. Dual straight pipes. No mufflers, cats, cross over or Y pipe. Just OEM headers welded directly to 1 7/8" straight pipes. One slight bend in each pipe just to make them hug the body. This again results in no real power before 4000 RPMs. Runs okay and sounds MEAN. After all this bull I am just goi ng to bolt on an OEM EA81 y pipe assembly and weld up all the stupid extra holes, weld on a mid pipe and a nice glass pack. I expect good low end, dont care about the top end and it will sound good. The reason I belive dual pipes w/o an expansion chamber (cat) Y pipe, cross over pipe or X pipe is due to the fire order. ONe head fires (1, 3) then the o ther head fires (2, 4). This leaves a larger gap between pulses 1/3 and 2/4 in each pipe. If you dont combine the pipes quickly you will suffer in performance due to a lack of scavanging. This can also result in higher combustion chamber temps as there is no 'sucknig' effect on the exhuast gases in the chamber when the exhuast valves open. I think a lot more thought went into that OEM exhuast system on both EA81 and EA82s then we care to admit.
  24. I dont know how well long travel, lifted body/suspension and seeing how fast you can take a corner will work out but it doesnt sound like a very safe combo When is the roll cage going in?
