Final Update on the Speed Bleeders. Here is how the rear ones are attached. Clamped onto the stock bleeders. They have held on for a long time now through lots of mud and big rocks. Hopefully the keen of eye have noticed I even put the rubber cap from the stock bleeders onto the speed bleeders to prevent it from getting rusted shut. I may booty fab up some ghetto'tastic junk but its done right dag nabit!

Here's the trimming done to fit 30"x9.5" Baja Widtrack Radials I originally had before switching to 29"x8.5" Liberator All Terrains. Front fenders cut in half along trim line. Remove inner fender splash guards. Fold over seam in unibody in the rear of the fender well and pound it flat with the unibody. Pound as necessary for turning Rear trimmed just as you see here. Door still seals properly. Can not see any triming when door is shut. The door comes out and covers it. Yes I know I'm a little young to be driving but I do wear a helmet!

What will get out this stain?
MorganM replied to MorganM's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Oh classic case here.... Roy's Playground. I drop in thinking... bah it can be that deep; it's hardly two Subaru lengths long and I have plenty of momentum. *SPLAT* This is how deep it was. So I marked a line to remind myself Just when, where, and how screwed I was in the mud! Did I mention I don't like mud anymore? -
Nothing gets blood out! Kidding... it's not blood. That's just how red some of the soil is up north here in the Iron Range. Add a little rain from the week before and you quicky get a bright muddy pallete of oranges, reds, and browns. Fun stuff to dye shirts with! Although I'd really rather not dye the whole engine bay. I'm getting really sick of mud. I thought I liked "mudding" untill I did it a few times while out trail riding. I would much rather ride trails high and dry in the dirt and rocks than get in the damn mud! What a mess and half the time you get stuck! Makes repairs so much more difficult also.

... this happend over 4 years ago. Before I had a lift I still loved getting the '88 2WD GL dirty. Well I didnt hit this huge puddle in an abandoned parking lot fast enough and was stuck. Arch came with his dad's truck and pulled me out backwards. On the las yank it ripped clean off. Thankfully that last yank pulled me out. Above it now you can see in it's place I have the custom bumpers bolted where the stock bumpers bolt on. They are bolted on with .5" grade 8 SAE (have to waller out the holes a little for the larger bolts). At the end are screw tight clevis. Much more secure towpoints It really is for everyone's safety!

Finall assesment of carnage on Poopenvagen found here: http://www.mnchopshop.org/images/offroad/jul04_craw4cure/carnage/ Highlights: Firstly; what it was all about; helping fight MS! Unibody folded a bit and angled back both lift blocks and both bottom brackets were dented from falling onto and sliding over big rocks. An already open wound in the unibody just recieved a pounding and slide accross. Whats worst about the rocks in the Iron Range offroad park isnt their size; its that they break off in jagged formations. Side walls get sliced like butter on crappy tires. People lost 2 tires in the first rock trench and another side wall later in the day before lunch. The Liberator ATs held up well.... I <3 WAL-MART All four tires are like this... even some on the indside edges! Bent the skid plate in 2 places on drivers side: Came down and slid on a rock folding that last lip back flat and sliding up along the bumper: I dunno what it is with me and trees... guess I favor hugging trees with this side; eh McBrat? Same spot we had to push on in Castana I have a small amount of VHS footage. Was hoping to get alot more but the darn battery wouldnt hold a charge so it all had to be shot in Chux wagon, with the AC power adapter, into the DC/AC power inverter, plugged into the lighter socket.... Pretty sure Chux got some footage on his digi cam.

I never got the skidplates I wanted on for the event. I did run the OEM skid plate with only the front two bolts holding it on. It worked okay and saved my oil pump and oil pan. One lift block in the back did bend the unibody and the lower bracket got a nice grooved dent in it when I came down on and slid over some nasty rocks.

30" by how wide? What rims are you using? I'm unclear what bolt holes you are modifying?

Even bouncing around in the rock gorge I didnt hit my head.

Going down the road feeling bad...
MorganM replied to belizeanbus's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Glad to hear it's back on the road. However consdier what made the belt shear the teeth. The last one that threw a belt and sheared teeth off the belt had a bad ideler pulley. -
For hauling weight all you would need is the Accord struts.
-
I prolly have mine sitting in the garage some where of my '88 GL. I'll poke around tonight and see if I still have it. Be happy to send it out at cost of shipping.
-
Glad it's fixed; now run to Wal-Mart and pick up some 235/75 R15 Liberator AT tires

Back to the original question; is something in the way that you are hitting the shifter or linkages on? OR is it that the gears are not meshing?
-
I really like sitting up high. When I'm on the trail I have to see over the hood and fenders to stay in the line I picked for an obsticle. Also helps when you have to lean out the window and see how close the side walls are getting to razor blade rocks! I'm 6'1" and still like sitting up high
-
So the rear, bottom, strut extensions are adjustable? Beyond 4" of extension?

I have the original BYB lift before the Ozified revised BYB lift. I kinda figured it was just that crappy Napa re-maned axle. But after blowing a stock Subaru one also I'm not so sure now... I've yet to brake an axle with my BYB lift and seriouse offroading. I have swapped them out due to torn boots but never blown out a CV, DOJ, or stub. Yes... I had to pick Chux balls up off the trail. Oh and Dave stepped on his balls before I picked them up. However Chux accidently got Dave back for that! As Chux was trying to back off the obsticle in 2WD he spun a tire and just piled dirt up onto Dave. I told Dave he asked for it!

You can 'feel' it in 4WD. Instead of pulling from the front it feels like the power is right in the center of the vehicle; as if it's pushing from the rear as much as it's pulling from the front.
-
I'd suspect this being a cause before the lift kit... Did he install the lift also?
-
Doable? Yes! Easy? Not unless you are good at wireing up EFI systems I'm a little lazy since its kind of late here; check out the Search button, click on Advanced Search and look for spfi conversion See what you can dig up there.

This weekend was the Crawl 4 the Cure charity offroad event for Multipule Sclerosis Society of Minnesota. Numbchux and myself made $500 for the MS society in pledges of sponsorship for the event. Total there were 150 people registerd, 75+ ORVs in the park just for C4C event, and $20,000 donated to MS society. Chux, Sarah, and myself all camped out for the weekend and enjoyed a lot of offroading at the Iron Range offroad park. We rode for 6 hard hours on SAT; casualties in our group were: new Jeep Liberty gashed two tires, stock Jeep Wrangler gashed a tire, old Toyota Land Cruiser starter selinoid, Chux blew his new rear axle, and I got 3 large dents from the Rock Gorge . Thankfully I brought a spare rear and we poped that on at camp. I left early on SUN so I'm anxious to hear how Chux and Sarah did on SUN. Here are some teaser pics from one of the jeep clubs. Not everyone is home yet from it so more pics and clips will be coming later of Subarus doing it on all fours through rocks, mud, and well... more rocks. OOOoops! Bob pretending to hold up his jeep This guy, Moe, just completed a trail called " 1% " in the "Put up or shut up" category. You can see here why only 1% of the ppl who come actually make it through this trail!

... wont go in becuase something is blocking the movment, or the gears wont enguage? Mine is dodgey trying to get into reverse and I often have to shift into 4th then reverse to get in. If it feels like something is in the way; well look around and see what's in the way.

The pin only comes out one direction. Start with the 3/16 roll punch on the end that has a beveled in edge. The other end of the hole is level with the edge of the DOJ cup. Here is a rough profile shot of the hole; start at the top where it's taiperd in. \ / || || || || || Go buy another punch and pound that stuff out! Worst case is you have to drill it out. Drill from the top down and use oil to cool and lube. Again use a 3/16" diameter bit. Bad timing man we are leaving tomarrow! I'm trying to call your parents house; you are staying there right? If not PM me a cell # or your duluth #. TTYL
