  1. My best guess are the radiator or the water pump. Junkyard radiators are questionable at best. I only grab them if they look brand new. I mean no discoloration and the stickers still on it. I've been given a really crappy re-maned pump before; the thing barely spun over by hand. Make sure the pump they gave you is good. Should turn freely by hand and have no fore to aft play. Slip the belt off, grab the pully, and check it out. As noted above make sure your thermostat is in properly and all air is bled out.
  2. Sometimes the mud wins What a damn shame about getting looted. What kind of insurance you got? PK needs to get a 6" lift and swampers on that Tracker! They really can throw down offroad. There are more than you would expect running around MN and WI; RPM 4X4 club has atleast four. The bright pink one rules! I saw a security guard parked on base here and had to talk his. Cherry red '91 Geo Tracker, 6" full suspension kit, didnt check the rims, 33"x12.5" swampers, stock engine and drive train. He had just broke apart the carrier housing for the front diff the weekend before offroading in WI Anyway I've rambled on enough here.... offroading rules!
  3. Keep your eye on the market place forums under http://www.mn-jeep.com and http://www.toyx4.com and you'll see cheap or even free dana and toyota axles often. Hell I think one guy on mn-jeep has some cheap/free dana axles he wants to get rid of up in Duluth.
  4. Arch floors it all day and didnt blow up anything in RWD. This is with an ER27 engine feeding lots of torque to that 4MT and rest of the drive train. Subaru's are tough
  5. That's normal for oil pressure at full operating temp. If you dont hear the lifters clicking or lower end knocking then you got enough oil pressure Was the radiator, water pump, and thermostat replaced with new parts or used parts? Did you put the thermostat in upside down? Have you replaced the radiator cap with a new one?
  6. By good I didnt just mean strenght of the axles. Will the leaf spring shackles line up to fasible locations for mounting? If not can they easily be remounted to different spots on the axle housing? Will the axle diffs interfere with anything on the Subaru? Does the Bronco II have a divorced t-case setup? If not what t-case are you then going to use? Is servicing these axles, breakes, bearings, etc as cheap and easy as other otpions? Steering is a whole nother ball game with the front axle. I'm not saying they are bad; I'm just saying there's a lot to consider beyond the price
  7. Forget looking under the hood. Lay down and look at the suspension. Compare the two sides and look for discrepencies. Hopefully it's just a bent radius rod or something replacable. There is no frame to bend. If the structural integrity of the unibody is damaged then yes it's classified as 'totaled'
  8. Just cuz they are cheap don't mean they are good Check your PMs!
  9. That's exactly why these threads get on peoples nerves. I'm all for new ideas and crazy projects. However lets try to keep it real. Thanks for your input subarubrat.
  10. Have you steam cleaned the pistons yet? Could be carbon buildup in your combustion chambers.
  11. Hey if you buy a Subarus on Mars offroad CD it explains on there how to do it
  12. Wresteling it out with out the picker is going to be just as much work as rolling the picker over and pulling it that way Local U-Pull yard here has these HUGE pickers; about 20' tall made out of 4x4 box steel. They use spare tires on casters at all 4 corners. Real fun moving those buggers around in a foot of snow and ice!
  13. Last one I bought had a real bad rod knock and no oil pressure. It was owned by a teenager however. Previouse owners of vehicles play a huge role in just how reliable a used car is. I think this has more to do with it than a blanket review of a given Make and Model.
  14. Nobody shot any of your ideas down here Gravityman. The only idea underfire was the remote relocation of a turbo where your muffler goes. Some of us are just tired of seeing a whole lot of talk about big ideas and seeing little to no results; it just kinda of boiled over on this particular thread. Everyone is anxiously awaiting to see how your project goes. Why? Cuz it will be the first time someone actually does it instead of talking about it. I was completly seriouse when I asked how it was coming along; it wasnt an attempt to dig on you. You should get license plates that say NO BS when you are done
  15. Load up the trialer and stop by a truck stup with a scale. See just how close or over capacity it is.
  16. I'm all for new ideas. Forced induction on an ER27 is not a new idea; it's been debated and theorized on here. Putting an ER27 into something else isn't a new idea; it's been done in a few vehicles. But by all means; debate it till your hearts content.
  17. TPS checks out fine. Resistance test results all within spec. The search contintues
  18. Upon further investigation I've realized I gave bad advice here. Never be too proud to admit when you are wrong Stock air box minus inner 'snorkel' inside the fender is NOT good enough for seriouse mud! Worked fine most of the time but when you get in the deep and nasty you will get mud up into the air box! Muy muy bad mojo
  19. Take it back to the duder and politly ask for him to back it off a few degrees. I'm sure he'd do it for ya; heck he might let you do it if you ask I've had cool shops let me use their timing lights for a few minutes while they were busy doing billable work.
  20. Nobody can answer 'how long will it last'. Way to many variables and unknown factors. They are tough trannies Mine's been holding up to 29" tires very well! I'd think you would break something else before breaking the internals of your tranny. Tranny isnt the weakest link in your drive train
  21. DSL rules! I loved my DSL connection more than cable internet
  22. Always nice to get an engine fired back up after working on it. Glad to hear it
