  1. The trans your talking about has a side filter and started use in 1999. That was a P-II trans... Transmissions up to 1998 are functionally identical to your SVX trans except the diff ratio
  2. Buy something with 200k miles. It should have the bugs worked out. Newish head gaskets and not be a problem for at least 50k miles depending. But you will get a good discount going over 200k anyway.. If you get a 1999-2004 and the engin quit, then a JDM ej20 is well under $1000 some importers will do the swap or its not too expensive or hard. Days time casual work. Less power but if you drive an EA car, you probably would be ok with that
  3. You can get Aisin ( OEM ) water pumps from Napa, very slightly cheaper than dealer.. Many parts are available from OEM companies from Napa and even independent Carquest still but the person behind the counter is the one who can see what they can get or have in stock. Napaonline is easier as it's online
  4. I've seen one, in a junkyard. With an earlier 1998 build date, but sticker said 1999 and it was for sure an ej25d in it. Could have been a mistake.
  5. Subaru does not ship sheet metal parts in paint like some companies do ( Ford to name one ).. PN 57120AE07A
  6. Oh I see. Still even torque bind is reason enough to replace when your that far in it
  7. The center diffs do not go bad in a way which renders the car undrivable. It creates a torque bind situation where it starts to feel like a 4x4 in tight turns, and the 5spd viscous centers will ALL do it eventually. Yours almost certianly does but you probably don't notice it. Likely has been bad for a while
  8. There is a foil tape that works. Hard to find, but that's about it.. regular " Muffler tape " and " muffler putty " don't work
  9. 215 65 16 is as big as you want to go. Un lifted. Theres a few AT tires in that size to choose from
  10. go to junkyard and find a tube stand off from a junk car. Does not need to be Subaru, any brand will do. zip tie the line through that hole and use the stand off as a cushion..
  11. No but you can find them on eBay au. Those recyclers will ship to USA if you ask them
  12. Custom gears or its not worth it. Ea trans will work with enough swapping around. If your looking for a crawler, Subaru wont do it for you, no matter how much you spend. Japan got the DR too so they can be obtained, but shipping big things from Australia is about impossible. Very little trade between north America and there. Boxable parts that can be shipped via normal channels are no problem. You can find the console and stuff easy.. You'll be into it $2k for .19 reduction

  14. They could bring back the Baja and it might work considering demand for used is quite high. But they never sold well
  15. How hard is the core support held in? My 2001 Forester lower tie bar is basically hanging loose from the core support rusted in that area. The end plates are not there anymore and the lower tie bar can be twisted by hand.. I'm considering getting a JDM SF5 STI front cut and using the good core support along with everything else, since it's getting the JDM EJ205/ 5spd anyway
  16. Considering there is no known way to flash an ECU on a Subaru built before 1999, the answer would be no... ECM's swap on Subaru pretty easy as long as you match the electronics. 1996-1999 ( except 1999 EJ22's ) will all swap out to the point the car will run. But it's best to match the year so all available equipment is operational and no ghost codes are there from equipment your car did not come with
  17. Match the year if you can. Roll the dice for 1997-1999. It'll run but might throw a check code but it'll run
  18. 0172 is bank 1 rich. Relates to a missfire or a bad o2. Actually unpugging the front af sensor ( oxygen ) to force open loop could rule out plugs and wires as a culprit
  19. First 5 relate to a random misfire. Probably needs plugs, wires and a new coil at most.. Compression test to be sure first. 1137 relates to a bad o2 sensor, and 457 is something emissions iirc
  20. Stuck spider in the front diff could do that. I've seen seized spiders in older trucks run like a posi from being stuck. Never heard of a Subaru doing it but never know. You say its run hard
