  1. Watched a blowout on a Tahoe or a Yukon or one a them bloated SUVs on I-90 today in between Eau Claire and Tomah, WI. Surprisingly uneventful although when the separated tread face finally got traction and came skittering back across the right-hand lane with a solid bead on me in my rental it did get a bit more puckery than I'd ordinarily like to see. So kids::: Check your tire pressure.
  2. I grew up in rural Wisconsin, and have had two of those rats with antlers run into me. The rest of the time? Slow down, honk the horn and if at night, flash from high to low beams rapidly. Haven't hit a deer in eighteen years but see them by the side of the road gawpin' at me stupidly at least twice a week.
  3. And once you conver real dollars into Canuckistani currency, you have enough left over for a pack of smokes and like half a beer, eh?
  4. Will they? Or won't they? SPIN THE WHEEL, RAGGEDY MAN!!! {/roadwarrior}
  5. Could it be that the cooler weather in the autumn has moved the carb out of its jet range? I used to race a Datsun 240Z with triple Weber DCOEs and I'd used to consider changing the jets if the temp was much more than 12-15 degrees off from the jetting I'd installed for the previous race.
  6. Big 'ol bump to say thanks! Both to you and McBrat! I get off the boat tomorrow at noon  (two weeks is more than enough), got to get to Madison to take care of some stuff (*coughbankingissuescough*) and should be able to make it back down to Dekalb Friday or Saturday. E-mail or PM me which works for you. I would have told you this in a PM but I wanted to thank you publicly for being so on-the-spot with this, and so transparent about the issues with the car I'm buying from you. It speaks well for your character and that of the whole board in general. Thanks, brothers. Much obliged.
  7. Well. I certainly didn't mean what I wrote to be translated as being negative about it. I just meant that, to my eyes, what might another set of circumstances result in? And for what it's worth, positive feedback and kudos are criticism as well; they're just forms of criticism that we like to hear. If I were to be so rude as to tell somebody, "Dude, your ride's butt-ugly and you have all the taste and restraint of a raccoon on meth," that'd be a different story. Perhaps I should have chosen a different thread in which to ask my questions. However, since I have proved my ringingly poor social skills and 'satiable curiosity already, I've got to ask: Ahole, how did you do that hi-lo shifter? That's a super-sano install, and something I think I'm going to copy because it looks so ***************in.'
  8. You know, for that size tire, a person doesn't rally **need** all that much lift; the car would IMHO look a little better if it sat a little lower, so the wheels filled the wells. In your opinion, what would the minimum lift for that size tire be? Like a 2", plus maybe clocking the torsion bar a spline and cranking the stock suspension up all the way? OR would I need more?
  9. No one knew that Brad's plans for world domination were being dictated to him by his mustache. (I only say that because I got a gnarly Fu Manchu myself, and know what it's like)
  10. Well, don't price yourself out of the market just because you want to upgrade pipe sizes. I could live with a bumper out of 1 1/2" tubing.
  11. Anyone ever dealt with http://www.funonwheels.net/hirisesubaru/pages/pricelist.htm Hi-Rise Subaru lifts?
  12. If you'd be willing to do one with a 2" reciever and tabs for a skid plate already welded on, I'd go to two bills for that. I'd also like to see an option for a third rail at hood height for headlight protection (Maybe with tabs welded in so a fella could wing-nut some heavy wire mesh covers over the headlights in thick brush or gravel roads,if ya folla) Having any thoughts about rear bumpers/tire carriers/jerry-can holders? Hmmm? How about now? Okay, how about now?
  13. And what's up with your roof? Is that home-made? What is it? How did you do it? Why? Where do babies come from? Why do you park in a driveway and drive on a parkway? THE WORLD NEEDS ANSWERS, MAN!!!
  14. Lawks-a-mussy, you're a big feller. Do you ever feel like a bear on a unicycle in that car? Because sometimes I do, and I'm only 6'3" and 270.
  15. Just speaking as the fella who's going to be driving around on those bearings, I'd really like to see them removed, and replaced with an entire 2008 WRX STI. In blue over black, please. Lacking that, whatever you'd feel comfortable driving around on, I'll trust you with.
  16. Marvel Myster Oil is amazing stuff, and good for a whole lot of things, but it's certainly not my first choice to somehow magically restore 6-year-old gasoline to the point where it'll support combustion. Drain the tank and put in 5 gallons of new.
  17. Curses!! and we would have got aweay with it if it hadnt been for those meddling kids!!!
  18. Click on this! Scroll down to the "questions from other members" part, and he says that the Ford Focus shares the same bolt pattern! I'm really too drunk to be researching this--or using Mr Al gore's internets, for that matter--but if somebody who is in better shape can research this, we may just benefit from this! Oh tyvm spellcheck!
  19. Swap 'em left-to-right and let the passenger worry about it.
  20. Huh, I got a piston out of a EMD 8-cyl tugboat engine (?) that I used for an ashtray till I quit smoking, the piston out of a EA engine just about fits in the wrist pin hole. It was only rated for like 2300 HP but OMFG the torque.
  21. :dramaontheinternet: Claws in, kittens. Play nice. Or if yer gonna fight, at least meet up somewhere with seconds and a boxed set of firearms. Pistols for two and breakfast for one, eh eh what what know what i mean?? Only vaguely related to this is is that the bodies on these cars are like violins or guitars, they will magnify and resonate any sound to where you thinkthe whole thing is gonna fall apart. I've epoxy-bonded 1/4" plywood to the roof and covered it in two plies of 6-oz fiberglas, it really quieted things down a whole lot and now I can actually set a gallon of milk on top of the car without having to worry about it denting. Probably weighs about 40-45 pounds, maybe a bit less all told.
