  1. His is a SPFI Conversion Hatch.... there's another thread on it somewhere.....
  2. there are plenty of full sizers that go here. just some of the trails wouldn't be traversible. there are about 100 miles of trails I think. there have been full size Hummers out there... with less shiny paint when done. even I have lots of scratch marks on my Brat from the bushes growing along the trails. there are places where anything bigger than a soob has to make a 3 point turn to make the corners, but not that often...
  3. it's an 87 Brat GL, 4speed D/R. the tank fuel sender unit was replaced with a new one a few years back. (2 owners previous....) vehicle also had dealer installed fog lights originally too....
  4. mines been off my red brat since I built it in 2003-4. never had any issues without it....
  5. Well, I'm still a "carb guy" but I actually used some info from SubieSport I've been having some rich idle issues with my '97 Turbo Outback, and in the last SubieSport, they had the conclusion of the Hell's Legacy build ('97 LGT sedan) and they mentioned they were having issues with too much fuel at idle, and the advice they had recieved from a couple of places was that perhaps the MAF was too close to the turbo. Because of the upgraded turbo moving more air at idle causing quite a bit of turbulence, the MAF was signaling for more fuel, but the throttle plates weren't open to let the air through... moving the MAF away helped them.... so since I have the EJ22T intake tube off the turbo, right to the MAF basically, I bought a jinky aftermarket tube kit, and added about 20-25" of tube between the MAF and Turbo... it's routed horribly, and probably causes other airflow issues, but it seems to have helped with the idling.... I still need to get the left front knuckle replaced, then it'll be back in action...
  6. cool. I always wanted to take one of those and make it into a new gen ski wagon.....
  7. you will want to maintain the larger 84 flywheel /clutch/pressure plate/release bearing set-up. The release bearing is larger, and the holder is a little different to support the larger bearing. you may need to use the 82 holder, with another piece pressed onto it to allow the 84 bearing to fit properly..... I believe the tranny input shaft is a different diameter, so you need to use the '82 holder..... but it's been a while since I dealt with that issue.... you can use a 82 holder and release bearing, but it doesn't have the best contact with the pressure plate fingers (just hits the tips), and could make it harder to shift because it may not fully disengage the clutch....
  8. Updated info in first post....
  9. definitely put a weber on it. to help even more I'd look for a used MSD 6A ignition and put a decent high output coil on it....Accell Super Coil (not Super Stock) is what I use with my MSD.... it made a big difference on my heavier than normal Brat... (also has the Delta Cams torque grind cam in it....)
  10. lucky for me, the CL for centeral Iowa has very few if any old soobs
  11. I had a lifted '87 wagon (carb) that I got without an engine. I dropped in a solid lifter ea81 with a weber on it. it was okay, but never had any pop to it, until I swapped in a lower mileage hydro lifter ea81 with the same weber. much better response then. Used a MSD coil with both engines.
  12. I've had them registered as both in Iowa. my first Brat I got from MN and when I registered it, I convinced them to to register as a MPV like a baja. but mostly they register them as trucks.
  13. I did the same thing (hand drill). my taper is even more redneck, as I just slanted the same drill bit, which effectively tapers both sides of the hole (inside/outside). I have really thick/heavy wheels though. have not had any problems, or nuts come loose in the last 2 years.
  14. find some grade B roads near a river in your area.... otherwise, in Sept. (2nd weekend) there's going to be the event in Castana Iowa. perfect place for a soob, plenty of easy trails. and you don't need to come back looking like my Brat does there is going to be an "open" even near the end of june, at the place the JOCCI club goes to, but I've never been there. there's definitely a lot harder stuff there....
  15. you can post the pics from the gallery. just grab the URL from the properties of the photo, and paste into the Image tag...
  16. that could be a tough one to get, as it's thicker than a normal vac hose so it doesn't collapse.... looking at a ruler, I'd say OD is about 5/8" and the ID is 1/4" or 5/16" any spares on the Ej w/hole?
  17. what's the backspacing measurement. (distance from rear lug mount surface to back edge of rim... I have 3 different suby pattern 14x6 wheels we can compare the measurements to. then testfit on yours for reference:
  18. did you jump on the front bumper a bit to settle the suspension after letting it down? mine always look a lot worse right after I let it down off the lift, but then it settles.
  19. was a good time... it's so nice working on a rust free vehicle I think with any of the different strut extensions you still need to beat in the inner strut tower walls for clearance... the ones you have may even need less than the others... I think it would look best with the 215's on it but I do think you'll have to accept a little bit 'o trimming
