Got to throw a tester on the car today, battery is borderline so above freezing the car starts (started fine this morning but sounded a little "odd"), below no start. Alt is fine, but i knew that. A car with a dead battery in the morning is usually a dome light left on or a tired battery. What ticks me off is that i thought i paid for a 5 year battery and it has a three year in it. So the three year interstate battery lasted a little over three years, about par for the course. I guess i'll hit Autozone as they have a free install (i cant bend with heavy wieghts). I have a napa around the block from me but ts on a second floor with grumpy old men and doubt they would help me with the battery. nipper

Cable shifters are very sloppy just because thats the nature of cable. I wonder if solenoid shifter would work. Aside from no real feel it would simplify things. nipper

Just like any sooby, make sure the tires match and take it for a test drive doing tight figure 8's in a parking lot. the car should be able to do it with no throttle or minimal throttle with no jerking motions. and yes the 2.2 is a great little engine. nipper

I know how they are made, the properties, why some batteries are rated at 12,24,36 months etc and why some are deep cycle and others are not. I just wanted to know other people s real world expieriences to avoid over paying. I swear I ask a simple damn question and NJdrsubaru has to get all over me about it, and im pissed. A battery is NOT a battery. Sorry i dont cheap out on important parts like some people as a 10 yo car has to get home like a 3yo car. So the wiseass remark is not needed.

Blu needs a battery. I can only get interstate batteries here through a repair shop and do not want to pay that kind of markup, nor labor costs. Last time i had sears look under my hood it left a bad taste in my mouth. SO Auto Barn, Auto Zone, Pep boys, Advanced auto ... who has the best batteries. i will go to sears if i have too. I havent really heard of some of the battery brands in the other stores. So who makes batteries for whom? nipper

Yes, but hey what do i konw i am only an automotive professional. I dont even use feeler gauges to spec mine out, i use dial indicators, as feeler gauges can be off. Use the proper tool with the proper tolerances for the proper job. We are talking 1000ths here so its not going to cut down thelife of the engine, as opposed to not doing it where literally within 100's of miles you can have the same problem again. nipper

This is not my car as i would never own one, but its my best freinds partner and i get the irate phone calls. This is a supercharged, i think 2002 xterra mileage unknown but im guessing 85K from the last time it went to the dealer. It looses electircal power like its running off the battery. The dealer can never find it except once, the last time, when they replaced the Alt. It just happened again tonight, acts like it is running low on voltage. Only this time the car restarted. Usually its stone cold dead. Its had this problem for quite some time and it cant be found, it being an electrical demon. So suggestions? Is there like a body relay? He has lights when this happens. Maybe a bad ignition switch? This isnt my most favorit person in the world, but eh i'm getting tired of the phone calls. nipper

If your going down a steep hill, that doesnt make sense. Going down the center of gravity shifts towards the front wheels. The other reason is that from 90-50% of the torque goes to the front wheels while 10-50% goes to the rears. The majority of the torque is towards the front on an auto. nipper

i beat this drum to death myself. Fron O2 sensor neds to be from a subaru dealer and the rear can be generic. nipper

Youy need a new garage. To find the gas source is extreemly easy for a garage with half a brain and an exhaust gas sniffer. Thery just poke around with the sniffer till it goes off the scale and that is the source of the leak. nipper

SO you want to do this job twice, two partiesa then. The finish of the mating surface on the sylinder head is crititcal, otherwise your odds of having another failure withiin a very short time go up dramatically, and may even be 90%. What brand O2 sensors are they? Have you checked for exhuast leaks (even tiny ones)? nipper

Well it is winter, 23 is not bad. Check your tire inflation, change your filters and PCV valve, and maybe get a sompresion test. The PCV valve fouling usually causes oil burning. nipper
