new Igniter with coil install?
nipper replied to brice k's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXhrmmm Hayns manual says zero. Also the way that the sensor opertaes tells me that it should be zero. Its a piezo quartz sensor that generates an ac signal that is sent to the ECU. The strength of this signal depends on how bad the knock. Any path to ground the ac signal would immedialty go to ground and never get to the ecu. im going to have to look at that manual, you have a link? nipper

new Igniter with coil install?
nipper replied to brice k's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXer um where are you getting this spec? The knock sensor should read open to ground (per haynes and subaru). that is telling me you need a knock sensor. nipper

hesitation troubleshooting
nipper replied to Chicobiker's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXnope the o2 sensor is in the exhaust pipe. Irt tells the ecu what adjustemnts is has to make in order to have the best combustion. The air flow meter, air sensor, meter (goes by many names) tells the computer the rate of air flow into the engine and its temperiture. 60K is way to soon for an o2 or af sensor. Maybe the knock sensor. The knock sensor adjusts ignition timing and that can cause hesitation. nipper

CEL, Speed Sensor
nipper replied to bearbalu's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXthe second one is #2. located on top of the transaxle. Usually if the CEL says you have a bad VSS, you have a bad VSS. Try unpluging them then pluging them back in incase its a dirty connector, but its probabaly the sensor. nipper

AT Temp light
nipper replied to eagleb's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX16 blinks on the temp light means that there is a fault electrically in the transmission and the codes need to be pulled. I am in the same boat, as my duty c solenoid fried , the car goes to the dealer thursday. You need to have this investigated sooner then later. nipper

Help TroubleShooting Vibration
nipper replied to SubaruGoddess's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXhow about a timing belt. If the timing belt has never been touched you can probably rule out the loose main/crank pully. Start the car and look at all the belts, they should all track staright and no wobbel. nipper

Flush 5spd Tranny during Service?
nipper replied to Left_coast*9's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXyes. Soobies love fresh tranny fluid, they will reward you well, but no chemical flush. Its a good way to kill something really fast. Soobies never need them, except for the ocasional fuel treatment. nipper

Please HELP! Is my 2.2L really dead???
nipper replied to JimmyJam's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX(mumbles abd things about the internet) You need a new belt. The old belt wont hold time. You also neeed a new tensioner, and replace the waterpump, oil pump seals, cam and main seal and your good to go for another 60-100K miles nipper

Flush 5spd Tranny during Service?
nipper replied to Left_coast*9's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXwhat he said. Never flush a car chemically. You can run fresh liquids through it, but never a chemical flush. The manual is just a drain and fill you can do yourself. nipper

Please HELP! Is my 2.2L really dead???
nipper replied to JimmyJam's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXyou cant do a compression test with a bad timing belt. I doubt you are done as the 2.2 is not an interfernce engine. you need a timing belt. The timing belt controls the valve timing. the valves need to close to make compression. The guy just doesnt want to work on the car. Its very rare for a sooby to just quit and die without doing something else first. Find a new shop or do it yourself. nipper

Sneezing 2000 Forester
nipper replied to jtarne's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXlets start with basics How many miles, auto or stick. Has the car had a timing belt done. Usually a cough can be a backfire through the intake, an exhauust leak, a valve timing issue. Go to an autozone and have them check for any codes. Does the car loose power during a sneeze? nipper

Transmission slipping (add me the the list of people with this prob) - 2000 Forester.
nipper replied to GaryW's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXthat lag is a bad thing, and fluid changes are not going to solve it. Either the front pump is tired, or the internal seals are tired inside the transmission. Either way there is only one fix for it, im sorry to say. nipper
