  1. I put a 93 2.2 in a 99 outback this week. I used an intake from a 96 2.2. Everything is done and it runs great, but it threw the p0106 code. The 99 had a map sensor sensor and only 1 tube running to the intake. The 96 intake had 2 tubes running to the map sensor. As it sits I have put the map sensor from the 96 in to accommodate both tubes. Should I put the 99 map back in and plug off 1 of the tubes. About 8 of these type of swaps and this is the first time I have ran into this. Any help would be great. Thanks Dp
  2. Thanks guys. I think I got it. I was really surprised at the low torque on the cam caps. Should i have used lock tight on those bolts? It's not t late if I need to.
  3. I have done a lot of motor swaps, but have not done head gaskets on one. I took heads from a 2000 outback to a machine shop to be surfaced and have valves done. Today I got the heads back and they are KIND OF done. What I mean is, they did the surface and valves, but when I picked them up they were not completely reassembled. I have about a 1" thick piece to be put back on (which looks like it needs a gasket under it) and then I have to put the cams back together. I like doing new things, but I have not torn heads apart before, let alone reassembled them. Is it actually a gasket I need, or is it an annorobic sealer. Also do I need to put a grease on the races where the cam sits. Any little tips would help. If I can figure these heads out, I do live in the Subaru capital of America. I would rather figure this out, because the older 2.2 motors for the phase 1 swaps are getting hard to find.
  4. Thank you. I have a couple laying around. What head gaskets? Phase 2 2.2, phase 1 2.5
  5. By the way, the 99 block was from an outback, so it was kinda the phase 1 phase 2 motor they did in 99
  6. So I bought a 2000 outback for my son real cheap ($200). The engine is done, can't turn it by hand. I'm looking to do a cheap as possible replacement. So my question is this. Can I use the 99 2.5 block and 2.2 phase 2 heads that are sitting in my shop and make it work. The block j know is good and the heads are brand new. I know I have to change the exhaust, but will this combo work? Thanks Dp213
  7. Its not that terrible to install a stereo, but with the prices at a shop any more. It's just about worth it to have it done. I use a small local shop and they do free installs on any deck over $120. I think even the big shops offer free or very cheap install when you buy a deck.
  8. Did Subaru ever offer a factory turbo model for the 97 outback.
  9. My friends wrx threw a code (p0410) secondary air valve? I've done a little research and it seems that it can be a pain. Is a system delete a smart possibility?
  10. By the way, the tranny service only removes about half the fluid, I would do it 2 or 3 times driving it about 100 miles between changes and that should be good.
  11. The transmission service should be pretty easy. The tranny has a drain plug for draining. You will need a new washer for the drain plug, same one as used on oil drain plug. The tranny probably also has an external screw on filter. It looks like an oil filter and it's located on the drivers side of the tranny. Add about 4.5 quarts of tranny fluid and check the level. I'm not positive about the e brake. On my 2000 I had the same problem and replaced the e brake shoes and that fixed it.
  12. A friend of mine said he took his 2000 outback to the shop because it started to overheat. The shop said he has transmission fluid in his radiator. If that is the case and there is a hole in the radiator wall next to the tranny cooler part of it, wouldn't there also be coolant in his tranny?
  13. The water pumps have a weep hole in them and when they start going bad they will drip coolant out of it.
  14. I have a 95 2.2 that runs perfectly. It has always had a little tick in the morning when you start it but had always gone away. Lately with the warmer weather the tick is a little louder and doesn't go away. Am I looking at a new oil pump or should I try 10/40 oil during the hot times
  15. I guess I will just have to try it. I will post the outcome when I do it. Might be a week or 2, but I will let you know.
  16. I have done a similar work around as the above link on a few cars and it works perfect. The only thing I did different is that I used the brass egr tube and cut it about 2" after the first bend from the intake and turned the tube to point at the passenger side then just put a piece of hose on that with a hose clamp
  17. Are the carbureted motors changeable to spfi
  18. The intake probably is, I just don't know about the heads
  19. So I have a line on a mpfi motor from a 1989 xt. It has low miles on it, but he said it dies when in get warmed up. Will the spfi intake from the 90 loyale work on that motor
  20. I have a 99 outback and the carpet is done. I was told that an impreza carpet kit will fit perfect. Can anyone verify that. I can order new impreza carpet but not outback for some reason.
  21. Wow, auto correct sucks????. That was supposed to say, or even a closer comparison
  22. Ot even a user comparison is using a 93 ej22 and putting the 95 ej22 intake on it.
  23. Very cool, so it's basically like putting a 95 ej22 in place of a 98 ej25, which is a very easy swap that I have done many times.
  24. I need to replace an engine in a 90 loyale. Someone else tore the motor apart and I don't have the intake. What I'm wondering is, are the TBI mfi long blocks interchangeable? From what I have read the car could have either one. I will have the original intake tomorrow, I just need to find a good motor and am hoping I can get either long block and use it. Thanks Dp
