  1. Well, finished the swap, and no start. Turns over but won't start. Waiting for my son so I can have him turn it over while I check for spark. This is about the 10th swap I have done a motor swap from 2.5 to 2.2 and the first time it didn't start right up:-(
  2. And by the way, I think they use atf fluid, not power steering fluid.
  3. If the fluid level is good and the belt isn't to loose and it squeals when turning, then chances are pretty good it's the pump. For tightening, I always tighten the belt until it's a bit tought to twist the belt 1/4 turn between the pullies. (Not sure that's the best gauge, but I have not had a problem)
  4. Welcome. To begin with, you chose a good first project. Subaru's are great, and somewhat easy to work on. For the motor, I personally would find the same motor that was in it, a 95 2.2. Great dependable (non interference) motor. As for tranny, I have not converted one from auto to manual. I do know that you HAVE to make sure whatever tranny you put in matches the rear end final drive gear ratio, (If it's all wheel drive of course). The 95 legacy wagon was my first suby project also. Enjoy and keep us posted.
  5. I forgot the crank pullies are different, does that matter on which one I use
  6. Not wanting to do a turbo motor. Building for a friends son. Want cool looking but dependable and affordable to fix for him
  7. I'm picking up a 95 2 door 5 speed Impreza on Wednesday. It's a little rough around the edges, but it's a project car. My question is, will the front fenders, dash, and seats from my 2001 Impreza work in the 95. Also my clutch?
  8. I forgot to ask, do I need to use the cam pullies from the original forester 2.5
  9. The timing mark for the crank is behind the pully. Pull the crank pulley off, there should be I think about 5 small square pegs on the crank behind the pully. One of them has the timing mark on it. Line that up with the mark on the case, line up the timing mark on each cam pully to the case and then line up the lines on the belt. Once done, I crank the engine by hand 2 full rotations and check the timing marks again. Crank and cam marks should line up but the marks on the belt will not.
  10. I'm a big fan of swapping in a 95 non interference 2.2, but with only 80k, I would redo the heads and run the 2.5
  11. When you do get it out, I believe you need to rotate the axle 180%. I had the same thing happen with a pin. The axle looked perfectly aligned but the pin only went in half way. After prying like hell to get it back out, I pulled the axle out of the tranny and rotated it 180 and the pin went right in
  12. I'm putting a 2.2 from a 2001 Impreza with 5 speed into a 2000 Forester with 5 speed. Do I use clutch and flywheel from Impreza or Forester. Thanks Dp
  13. Wow, I must agree with some above. The first pic says, run away fast. I can't believe he would out that pic on the add and expect to get more than about $600 for it. Me personally wouldn't even pay that for it. Just my opinion though. Find a 2.2 and have fun driving.
  14. And the suspension only has 100k on it. My 98 has 200k on it
  15. I know, but I'm changing a tan interior out for grey and I can get a grey 04 dash and full suspension both back doors and brand new tires for $100. I thought the tranny was still in it but it's not.
  16. Will the dash and 5 speed tranny from a 2004 Forester work in my 2000 5 speed Forester?
  17. My sons friend just bought an Impreza. It a 2.5 and he would like me to put an aftermarket air intake and he wants a full new exhaust with header. Do they make an unequal length header for that car? And air intake. Thanks Dp
  18. I ran 215/45/17 on my 95 legacy. They fit and only would rub if I hit a pretty big dip in the road when someone was sitting in the back seat. I ran that same set on a 98 legacy gt and now they are on a 2001 impreza
  19. Well, I'm not sure what year the motor is then. It has an egr plug, so I guess it's a 95
  20. If it is the worn snout, will it eventually do a lot of damage, or is it something I can tell him he has to live with :-)
  21. So, it sounds like if I use my 98 intake with egr, pull the egr plug out of the 2.2 head, then swap various sensors to match the 98 intake wiring. For the most part, I should be fine.
  22. The only thing i think wd40 is good for is a cutting fluid when cutting or drilling metal.
  23. My sons 2002 Wrx had a bad clutch chatter on take off. I had to pull the motor to do heads so I had the flywheel surfaced. It was great for about a month, now it's doing it again. Any thoughts.
