  1. At 41K miles SOA replaced my AT transmission under warranty on my 2000 Legacy GT. Trying to figure when to change fluids, I am uncertain about the diff fluid. Would they have needed to replace the front diff fluid at the time they changed the tranny or is it unrelated and completely sealed off by itself?
  2. Draining through the plug doesn't get it all out. So with all the warnings about different manufacturer's formulations, is it safe to mix any Dextron III ATF in with the remaining ATF fluid in the system??
  3. How much trasnsmission fluid can I expect to get out by simply draining from bottom on my Automatic 2000 Legacy GT? Hate to have my cup runneth over!
  4. I have the same oil in the spark plug hole and have been told that there are O-rings that need to be replaced. Too bad this discovery appears 2K miles past 60K warranty! My 2000GT was running like crap until I replaced the spark plugs. SOA does recommend the wires at 60K as well but I just did the plugs. Remarkable difference. You can get the NGK plugs from 1stsubaruparts.com (aka Liberty Subaru in N.J.) for $2.09US a piece. Get you order together and save on shipping by combining items. You might have some more local discounters in Canada. BTW I understand there are some 55,000,000 US voters looking for safe haven in Canada.
  5. Another Subaru website suggestion included "center diff" as a possible culprit and "learn to live with it" as a solution. If it only started recently and I am covered under a 100K warranty, I'd like to have some direction to aim SOA. Hep me puleeze!
  6. I will hope that one of the Grand Poobahs of Subarus will chime in but isn't there something about letting the car run without touching the gas at initial startup to reset the computer to new engine conditions? I have used the battery disconnect to erase codes on my 90 Loyale but read somewhere about this other technique around these boards.
  7. High pitched whine in 2000 Legacy GT Over the last 3-4 months, I have been noticing a whine which seems to come from forward of the passenger compartment. Been trying to narrow down the cause of this but the best I have been able to do is determine that it only comes on when the engine is under load/open throttle. If I'm driving on the freeway, it comes and goes as I press/release the accelerator. While on cruise control, it also comes and goes when the car is trying to accelerate uphill, etc. Am certain it does not correlate to engine speed. If I release the accelerator at 70mpg (and note that rpms stay high), the whine goes away immediately. My thoughts are that is has somehow to do with the injectors or throttle?? Any other thoughts or similar experiences?
  8. Electrical is very linear. Don't be intimidated. The fact that you have a problem with a branch of the circuitry involving plate lights and rear washer as well as the rear actuator would point you to a junction or multiconnector where they all come together as the culprit. I don't have Haynes but check to see if by chance these three items are on one fuse and make certain WITH YOUR OHMETER that the fuse governing this area is OK. If they are not on the same fuse or the fuse tests OK. Then check out the electrical schematic (does Haynes have one) and follow the lines. Sorry I can't be more specific.
  9. Hey Jean... Er... nice Avatar... er what did you say about BG... er nevermind, I can't remember what I was thinking... did I mention nice Avatar?
  10. Are you a renter, coop or condo owner of the apartment? Did they tow you to a legal spot close by or drag you by the nostrils some distance away? Just curious. Though the liability remains with the towing company, you probably would also name the owner of the building in a lawsuit as they contracted for the tow. You may have to pay for the tow but THEY are responsible for rendering a professional service and liable for damage to your car.
  11. Dealer recommends every 30K adding BG MOA and 44K. Is this BG BS and is it sold anywhere on the retail level? Together they are supposed to lighten oil and fuel deposits as well as lightening your wallet.
  12. What with the price of those upscale coffees, that's where they get you!
  13. Connie, You didn't mention the final cost and labor charges with Moosen's Marauders.
  14. So, what's the fix? I just noticed the same on y 2000 GT Legacy. Is a valve cover gasket replacement the fix? If the problem is not uncommon, did they come up with the new and improved for a reliable fix?
  15. For the past few weeks, when first turning wheels (actually as they are returning to center), there is a sound from the front right (passenger) side that sounds like the wrong answer buzzer on Jeopardy. It seems from the right side of engine/tire area. It only happens once at new startup and lasts just a second. Legacy GT 2000 ABS? I'd try another answer but I'm sure I'll get the wrong answer buzzer so I'm throwing it out to you for a try.
  16. I just checked the work order on the replacement of my transmission and the following was noted "Cut seal in low clutch assembly causing delay" . Go get 'em.
  17. You did say that you were parked improperly (illegally?), so I assume you didn't call for the tow truck. Was it in a private lot and towed at the request of the lot or location owner or was this State sponsored terrorism? My experience with Small Claims in New York is tiring but fruitful. Once you get a small claims judgement, they have 30 days to pay you. You can then give the judgement to a Marshall to make demands and he can padlock the business if they don't comply. If you paid them by check, you can see where your check was deposited and freeze their bank account. Don't go bragging and threatening as to what you'll do. Surprise is the key element here. Incidentally, all court fees and Marshall fees are added to the judgement and you can get interest added if it goes on for any length of time. In NY I believe the interest rate is 9% and that's better than you get in the banks! If they have 3 unpaid judgements, there is a way of petitioning the courts and get triple damages assessed. Hell, you could end up the proud owner of a towing company... now that you own said towing company, don't forget to tow ALL AWD vehicles on a flatbed or else SEE ABOVE.
  18. WARNING: Never use the aforementioned hood position while driving as it will severely and adversely affect aerodynamics and increase gas consumption.
  19. Cruisin' another board I discovered that you can open the Subaru hood to a complete upright position! The hood prop can be removed from the front of the engine compartment and positioned into a hole in the front of the passenger side strut tower (covered with a plug on some models). Darn handy especially when working towards the rear of the engine.
  20. 60,000 miles was the drive train warranty. Did you just become aware of it? How long have you owned the car? If there is a history of a complaint, you might be able to get SOA to step up to the plate. Was this purchased from a dealer? Even if it was purchased from an individual, try to access their service record to see if they had ever complained to their dealer. If you can, try to get the service history by Vin# if you have to locate where the car came from. As far as the ultimate impact, try and get the Tech Service Bulletin regarding this issue and see what a transmission shop would charge for repair. SOA might be able to tell you what their repair cost would be. As I said in my case, they simply installed a remanufactured tranny straight from Subaru as they don't want their shops being responsible for breaking one down and repairing it on site.
  21. Do the boots CV joints appear intact or is there a tear that could have allowed the grease to become contaminated or degaded to the point where the joint is trashed? Axle nut loose? Ball joints? Steering rack? These are the suggestions I've seen on the site in the past. The Search function IS your friend! Also check out "Similar Threads" at the bottom of this web page. For many issues, the guys and gals on this site have "Been there, done that AND bought the T-shirt".
