I had the same issue with my 2000 Legacy GT. From the outside, open the door and stand on the doorsill with the moonroof open so you can see what's going on. In my case, the back moonroof shade had jumped the track similar to what you describe where the window would drag it back when opening the window. Examine both sides and you should be able to determine which one rides smoothly in the track and then try and gently reposition the misguided side. Then run around the yard yelling TADA! There is a Technical Service Bulletin: http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/tsb/results.cfm Make : SUBARU Model : LEGACY Year : 2000 Manufacturer : SUBARU OF AMERICA, INC. Service Bulletin Num : 128003 Date of Bulletin: MAY 19, 2003 NHTSA Item Number: 10001727 Component: VISIBILITY:SUN ROOF ASSEMBLY Summary: SUNSHADE FOR REAR SUNROOF ON DUAL SUNROOF MODELS. The following website is specific to your car's TSBs but doesn't mention this condition. Check out the other issues. These are not NHTSA safety recalls but rather SOA heads up bulletins for their dealerships. http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/tsb/results.cfm It's easy finding your way when you know where you are going!

hi, my names tony, im a welder addict
brus brother replied to archemitis's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I've heard that it starts out innocently enough with soldering and then its a slippery slope into the dark (you have to wear those goggles) world of welding. Avoid the temptation to start and "stick" with duct tape. -
If the toe and camber was done appropriately and alignment is on and especially since the problem followed the move of the tires, I would suspect something amiss with the tire that brought the problem with the swap. You could move the tire to the rear but then you don't know that the rear tire you bring forward is balanced. $40 to balance all 4 tires and when they are on the machine (or even just balance the one tire that brought the problem along when you moved it), the tech can tell you if you have a bent rim or even a defective tire. Put the 2 best tires/rims on the front and let us know. 10K is too soon to replace a tire unless defective and if it is defective, you should be able to get an adjustment from the seller.

If my memory serves me, the Outback 2.5i Ltd is equipped with a LSD as well as side airbags (I know, the airbags haven't tested well in gov't assessment) and I kinda liked the bigger hips on the OB (NOT my preference in women though). Seems like I might try the rear sway bar upgrade and see what gives for my first tire replacement.

Hey Doc, We already owned a 2000GT and didn't want to appear that we were running a fleet service out of the house. More important, I hate the hood scoop "boy racer" look, added maintenance and the high test fuel requirement of the turbo. I know that they actually made the hood scoop functional this year but it's still not for me. The feeling of driving the OB is much less adherent on turns and that's why I question the height of the car. Could different tires enhance road huggability?

Travelling in a snow storm it seemed like suddenly there was little power going to the drive. 93 Legacy manual transmission. Shifted down from 5th to 4th gear and it seems to have grabbed, shift back to 5th and it seemed to go for a while and then the same thing happened again. It wasn't apparent uinder dry conditions. Pardon the lack of clarity but I wasn't in the car when it happened. There is a little tweeting probably from the throwout bearing that you can hear at idle and disappears if you just slightly engage the clutch. I'm hoping for a "Tweet No More" additive to pour on the hood of the car and that it may also solve the mystery in the drive. Any other suggestions appreciated.

I recently bought an 05 OB 2.5iLtd for my wife. It's looks nice enough but the handling is a little disappointing when I compare it to my 00 Legacy GT. They are both automatics and wagons. It feels like I am driving the GT but following the OB. Is the height difference the major contributor in cornering etc. and is there a way to tune up the suspension on the OB to bring back that good ole feeling of the GT?

Now isn't the 2000 prone to EXTERNAL HG leaks? I am beginning to suspect something similar in my 00 Legacy GT, but the techs did a visual and said that when they go, they GO! Is it possible that a small leak is under certain conditions allowing a small stream of coolant to evaporate off on the hot engine, leaving no residue. I know that with my trany leak, they added an ultraviolet dye to the fluid and then after a while, inspected the area with a UV light. This might be a solution if you wish to eliminate the possibility of ANY external leaks.

Just found out today that I will be getting another reman auto trany from SOA. First one replaced at 41K due to delay engaging, apparently a known problem with the 00 Legacy. Replacement lasted 28K and started whining between 40-50 mph then making "knocking" sounds in park or neutral. Thank my lucky stars for extended warranty.

I see you have the LL Bean. I believe your's is the 6 cyl.. Is it manual or AT? I have the 05 OB 2.5i Ltd. ( a snappy monotone Champagne Gold color... better gas mileage?). It's only a 4 banger and runs on 87 octane with an auto trany. I will have to check the mileage as it is actually the missus' ride. I now drive the cast off 2000 GT also Auto., woe is me . The GT gets about 22 mpg mixed hwy. and kid chauffeur with some pinging at 87 octane, an issue I am trying to resolve. I think I remember seeing a display for mpg on the center gauge panel. I'll check the next time I'm in the car and use the automatic calculator on the dash gauges. It'll take a week or so to get a mileage count by my own calculations so I'll send you a PM if this thread is in mothballs by then.

That very minimal post was a cheap ploy by Northguy to inch closer to 2170 posts at which time he is eligible for a free encylclopedia! Cars and their designs are works in progress. My first Sub was a FWD 1984 and the latest is the 05 OBiLtd. Some will make the argument that the older Subes were the reliable workhorses and the new ones are following a road more travelled. Well, I guess as I've gotten older I don't mind some of the newer amenities like cup holders and heated seats (Note: no longer holding a cup of hot coffee precariously between your legs necessitated the need for seat warmers). While the side crash tests were not as glowing as the frontal impact test, it still beats the earlier "no airbag" design. As for the entusiasm of the USMB board members, they have been invaluable in solving mysteries of things Subaru for me and saving me many bucks to boot in the process. Moderator, please note that this current post is much more wordy than Northguy's and could possibly count for bonus posting credits in my total, inching me closer to nirvana. BTW the solid sound of the door closing is impressive on the 05s.

Decided to check my oil level after my last FREE oil change at the dealership. Looks at least one if not two quarts over! Generous souls they are. It's past the F hole, and a good ways past the notch in the dipstick. What damage can occur? Seems like every time I leave the dealership, I bring a new problem home with me.

The term "Tribeca" was coined in the early 80's by clever realtors in lower Manhattan to give name to an otherwise nondescript area of former warehouses, factories and loft spaces. The name stands for the TRIangle BElow CAnal street. The area eventually caught on and is beyond trendy at this point. It was the former home of the World Trade Towers pre 9-11. That is what is in a name.

Suzam is correct. I just returned from dealer installing passenger side gusset (did driver's side last week). I asked about the cause of the problem and he pointed out that if you lean against the glass from the inside while getting into the car in a tight space or if you open the door by pulling on the glass, it springs the metal over time and allows for the air gap and noise. He described lowering the window and pinching the metal at the top of the triangular corner to tighten the contact as Suzam describes. He thought that the new pieces he installed might have been re-engineered but who knows.

Are there suitable fluids for tranny and fuel injector cleaners that do the job without the advertising hype? I see where SOA and other specialty dealers ONLY are supllied with BG 44K for engine and injector cleaning and at a relatively hefty price. Other than a marketting ploy and elitism, is there any difference between their chemistry and say STP injector cleaner? On a similar note, much is said about mixing tranny fluids by different manufacturers. Since a drain and fill tranny fluid change only swaps out about half of the fluid, unless SOA specified their factory installed fluid, you would in all likelihood, always be mixing brands. In fact the parts manager of my dealership says he gets various manufacturers sent to him for his shop. Penzoil specifies its type III trany fluid as compatable with other type III Mercon tranny fluids but other compainies do not make such a claim. As long as you are not mixing type F with type III Mercon, is there any harm? Anyone have science to back up the above??
