  1. You're in love! If we try to talk you out of it (her/him), we won't be invited to the wedding! My wife drives an 05. Are the door handles color match painted to the car. It wouldn't matter in youir case since they are a standard black in the lower trim model (my car is tan (titanium pearl)... doesn't show dirt like those darker colors). The lower trim model also didn't have side airbags. The ride is softer than my 2000 Legacy GT and it seems to roll more in the corners. Transmission died at 15K?? but was replaced under warranty and fine now at 40K. It's a more lux ride to be sure. Good luck with the in-laws.
  2. Probably not the safest suggestion to ride in the trunk... but how to resolve?? I can't recall all of the details from your prior post. If you haven't already done so, remove EvERYTHING from the trunk compartment including spare tire, jack, removable liner... EVERYTHING! Now if you remove the rear seat back, can you access the trunk/lid area? This might make diagnosis easier AND safer. Perhaps there is something (wire harness etc.) that was moved in the lid/spoiler placement/replacement/replacement that created and then momentarily "solved" your problem (in any event likely related to some harmonic resonance)... If all else fails, temporarily REMOVE the spoler and seal the mounting holes to see if it eliminates the problem. If that is the solution, then your choice is to have a spiffy spoiler that will keep you "grounded" or a quiet car that will keep you sane.
  3. OK, I've been lurking in the shadows and watching this thread's goings ons. Sir from Oklahoma, your final bow contained some startling information. That many defective reman axles seems problematic to this casual observer. Having to sort through 4 defective axles to find one that you found acceptable is a very failing grade of 20/100. The less obvious defects (maybe even the one you finally installed) will take time to evidence themselves and hopefully the naive customer will have forgotten who did the last work. When my inner boot tore, I started shopping various suppliers and learned that some rebuilders use new parts and others just regrind. The price was reflective of the caliber of the rebuild. Having been forewarned of the vagueries of the aftermarket axles, for this very reason and with the help of this board, I opened, cleaned and rebooted my Subie original axle shortly after I became aware that it was torn. Thanks again to the board for sharing observations and hopefully Sir Okie will continue to drop in and lend some wisdom.
  4. Pay no attention to Nipper. The man is daft and will say anything to get his 10,230th post!
  5. Last time I had my windshield re-replaced, the tech commented about the earlier job where they used silicone and that this was not the proper material and could lead to rusting? Anyway, Permatex makes one specific compound. Google auto glass sealant. Hell, you might as well break the glass yourself for that money.
  6. Well from a read of the Craig's list ad, this "li'l lady" seems to know her way around the yard... talkin' up the 2.2 and that you could "part it out"...
  7. Have you checked to see if the nut was loosened? Step 1. unloosen nut if that fails, Step 2. apply teflon tape then unloosen nut:dead:
  8. Wife created same condition by operating wipers w/o clearing snow. Tightened nut, kissed wife. All is good.
  9. Geepers, you folks out there in "hither, yon" are very patient. You first posted this problem over a year ago:eek:
  10. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=22394&highlight=leaking+windshield+washer+fluid Found the above with the Search function. Mentions part# from Nissan but the last post also links to http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=20595&page=1&pp=10&highlight=rear+washer and Ferret references a check valve in the rear pillar.
  11. phew... my 2000 Legacy had both HGs replaced under warranty and my 2005 OB, well... as the fellow falling from the skyscraper was heard yelling while passing each floor... "so far, so good!"
  12. Not sure that this year was within the official range of HG 100,000 mile/8yr. extended warranty but I certainly would pitch a bit*h to get it covered.
  13. Not sure of your model year but our 2005 OB blew both headlamps in quick succession and were replaced under warranty apparently being an issue with factory installed bulbs from a bad lot.
  14. Use the SEARCH function on the site as this has been covered. As I recall, sitting in the driver's seat, turn ignition key to the ON position but do not start the car. Then buckle and unbuckle the driver's seat belt rapidly for 10-15 times and then while the belt is buckled, turn the key off and remove the key from the ignition, unbuckle and then exit the car. The next time you put the key in, it will chime a few times and then stop. This worked fine on my 05 OB and the above is the procedure as best as I can remember but as I said, check the site's SEARCH function for "seat belt chime". I found the link: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=57945&highlight=seat+belt+chime
  15. God awful weather and conditions up there in T'rntoe, Mr. Badorties. Really, can I call you H, as experienced a man as you in the workings of a fan should know that lubrication can't hurt. I think gbhrps covered the nitty gritty for you if you decide on a full assault. Still might be time to search the detritus piles of civilization as your avatar's namesake Horse might do and see if a used replacement is on hand. Thanks for reminding me of a good book I read... 30+ years ago! BTW, what is life like in the Waterloo/Kichener area? Just checking out travel there from NYC with a possible change of venue.
