  1. I just did a head job and now im using oil and smoking more and I have vibration in my wheels..lol Don't DO A HEAD Job!
  2. i don't even know how to get it out of the radiator right now without drilling it out. are the threads in the radiator plastic or metal?
  3. I need one of those screws.. did you get it from the dealer? I would rather get the correct thing than rig some other screw etc.. I broke the head on my screw and it seeps.
  4. You might try checking the cam bolts. Make sure you seated the cams in the correct position, and that you torqued down your cam bolts. I would also check the crank sprocket. check that you are indeed using the timing mark on the very back of the sprocket and not the one up front of the sprocket. Did you have the intake off the top of the engine? Check the "crank sensor" that it is connected.
  5. I love fairtax.. but this sounds like something I might have to take to a garage. if its cheap enough, ill just get a new one....
  6. thanks.! I have no problem putting gas in. I have topped it off the last two times filling,, trying to get it filled up all t he way.
  7. confirmed air,, escaping or going into the tank when I take off the gas cap. I looked under the hood. 3 "fuel lines" going to filter and then to manifold. All new hoses. Didn't see an fuel pressure regulator
  8. had no other problems of this type. I THINK I remember a woosh when I take the gas cap off. Ill look at the seal on the cap.. Its stock plastic one. Don't know about the filler tube. but no this is a brand new thing,, out of no where. Any idea where this fuel tank pressure control solenoid is? ,, I thought I might check that somehow. with a mulitmeter ? Ill see if I can find it in the Haynes manual.
  9. 96 legacy wagon, 2.2, Automatic . hi guys,, driving down the highway.. listening for a bearing in my front wheels.. felt like a tire was low. Pulled over looked at them,, maybe a bit low.. no biggie. Jump back in ,, on down the round and the CEL light came on. Temp was ok.. So I went 5 miles to auto zone,, had them pull the code,,, it came back with P1401. Fuel tank pressure control system function problem 1. open or short circuit condition 2. poor electrical connection. 3. Failed fuel tank pressure control solenoid. Any advice ? Just fishing from you guys because well,, lets face it,, most of the time you all know the deal already. Thanks!
  10. 96, 2.2, automatic Mine was doing the same thing. 175k miles. I put new head gasket in. No more problems The water pushing out into the overflow due to gas bubbles escaping into your coolant via the bad Head Gasket. As fast as yours is doing this.. start the car let it run for 2 min. Then have someone step on the gas and look inside your overflow tank.. If you see bubbles ,,,its head gasket.
  11. you need to just go pick up a Haynes manual at a local parts store or online,, they tell you exactly how.
  12. Beergarage.com has a great article on removing dash and getting to the heater core,, if that is what you are meaning.
  13. that crossover heater pipe would be a bear to get to. Unless im mistaken you may have to remove the intake manifold. I would be looking at JB weld. or something like it. I think they make a "Silicone Tape"
  14. Got it started and drove it. (I stole 2 bolts out of my parts car I forgot about) Anyway a couple of questions. 1. I think my valves are ticking awful loud.. Sounds a bit like a diesel. Will this go away,, Is there something I should do? 2. My Fans are not turning on. My Freon apparently leaked out and I have no AC.. But I thought the other fan ran all the time. ? I just put in new stant T stat and Water pump . 3. The Temp gauge in the car stays at normal exact spot. Never gets hot. Had it idle for a good while then drove 3 miles into town, got gas,, came back.. No change. Coolant is near capacity, bottom hose and top hose are warm/hot. 4. Should I check my fans somehow? I checked fuses , all good. Thanks for input!!
  15. everything done,, get down to bolting on the throttle cables. not sure if I have the right two bolts... I try em,, one bolt falls on top of the block somewhere.. cant get a wratchet or a nut driver on them,, other bolt wont go in,, seems cross threaded.. tried to use a dye on the bolt,, I think I got the wrong pitch ,, I tired a 6 mm 1.0 pitch, and it seems worse. SO Fail sauce. Everything,, I mean everything Is done but that... Now I gotta suck it up and call Subaru and pay 5 bucks a bolt or something for repleacements.. otherwise happy 4th.. I live to try another day.
  16. Been putting this back together a little at a time and re building the front axles too. Going to swap sides with them.. I am actually just rebooting them with a kit from R.A. So once I get those in today, Put back the air tube and all the vac hoses off of it, Fill with oil and coolant.. Its D DAY..!
  17. not for nothing,, but if he has to burp the system more than once.. and he has seen the temperature climb ,, this could be head gasket,, Just a possibility.
  18. lol I just yesterday put my manifold back on my car, I saw this yellow hardened material around the circumference of the thing. It was all hard and falling off.. I paid no attention,, figured it was some factory thing and ignored it.. I didn't notice the hole or the white caulk. Ill be following along here for any answers. the problem I had was I thought I would be smart and replace that small hose that attaches to this "IAC" and attaches to the water manifold on top of the block,, I cut the hose at least 1/2" longer and still had a bear of a time getting it attached,,, it BARELY is on there,,, I may pull it back off and put a splice in it ,,
  19. yeah maybe the bypass hose that runs from the T stat housing to a pipe,, is ripped or torn and you cant see it.
  20. Guys, Putting this thing back together,, was doing the timing belt. Im a little confused on how to do the tensioner pulley. I understand to move the tensioner back to the left before tightening the mounting bolts. But after I do that,, I should then tighten the tensioner pulley. (the belt is already on there) So I leave the pully loose until I pull the pin on the tensioner? Then tighten the pulley? If I tighten the pulley,, it wont move when I pull the tensioner pin.. So yeah im a little confused as to this process. I have a Haynes,, doesn't help me understand this sequence ,, and how tight to put the bolt in the pulley.
