  1. The brat currently has 185/80s on it. They are too tall for me. This brat wont see any dirt or mud, i got a truck for all that. Im thinking of lowering it alittle.
  2. If the motor turns over but wont start, then try spraying some starter fluid into the throttle body. if you dont have starter fluid, then carb cleaner/brake cleaner/throttle body cleaner will do. If it fires up and stalls, then you have some sort of fuel problem. If it doesnt, chances are you have no spark. Those are the first two things you need to check... fuel & spark. If the car wont even turn over, then I suggest checking the battery to make sure its not dead.
  3. I love this weather. Makes me want to turn my Brat into RWD and do some drifts
  4. Ok, lets change the subject alittle here. I could care less about my MPG with the brat. Im sure I could put 33" swampers on it, and still get better mileage than I get with my Legacy. What im most concerned with is performance. Im thinking the 185/60 will do nicely. Now i just gotta figure out what to do to reduce the gap between the tire and the fender
  5. Yeah, thanks guys. I finished the head job a couple weeks ago. Was pretty easy. Zip tied the chain to the timing sprocket. Also, I removed the chain with the #1 cyl at TDC, then I used a center punch and marked the position of the cam. I transfered the old cam to the new head, and when I reassembled it all I verified the position of the cam had not changed. It fired right up and has never ran so good. I didnt look at the guides or anything. Im not overly concerned about it at this point.
  6. Yeah carfreak, i saw that. Those tires dont look practical for everyday use. But how well did they fit?
  7. Thanks ed. I know how to read tire size.... 185mm wide, 50% of 185mm in height from rim edge to the tread. Im sure a 185/60 would be lighter than a 185/70. And a 175/50 would definatly be lighter than both. I remember fitting 205's to my RX without any problem, my old brat had 195's but they were on 15" pugs. Also, ive been lookin for rims with white lettering, but cant seem to find any.
  8. Because they are pizza cutters. Wider looks better. And a lower profile as well. The rims Im going to use deserve the best tires I can find. I just noticed they offer 185/60R13... i may give those a shot.
  9. The reason for using smaller than stock would be to save on gas. Less rotating mass at each wheel. Anyhow, i emailed TireRack and the 175/50's are backordered until mid to late december I think im going to go with the 215's.
  10. Yeah we didn't even make it to the big sluice. We went in at Loon Lake and did 6.8 miles one way. Here's a map I made of the trail using some public GPS coord's: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=111375430849751906503.000457b2fe1df4e69dd00&ll=39.01905,-120.274973&spn=0.045279,0.077248&z=14 We camped at the Buck Island Damn and turned around there to come home.
  11. Was shoppin today for some new tires for the Brat. The Sumitomo HTR200 comes in a wide variety of 13" rim sizes. The two Im lookin at are the 50 series, 175 or 215. The 175 are obviously smaller in diameter than the 215's... i think for the Brat, 175 should be plenty wide. But Im not sure if it will look goofy cause they are also considerably smaller. The 175's are 19.9" tall while the 215's are 21.5" tall. So yeah, im leaning more toward the 175's... but they are backordered. The 215's are in stock and ready to ship... do I wait it out or just not worry about it and go for the wider/taller combo.
  12. I'd rather get a copy from Zap. And ive seen pictures, so i dont doubt they were there. Just not where we went.
  13. Yeah, i did some research on the '95 S10 and i know its rated to tow 5,500lbs. I just know, at work we wouldnt even put a car dolly on a S10. For safety reasons. Anyhow. When you get your stuff ready. Bring that 'yota down here!
  14. Do me a favor and read through this: http://www.sherline.com/lmbook.htm
  15. I have no clue about the title or anything. Its through a company i do business with at work. I mentioned to the guy on the phone how bad my back was after the rubicon run... and we started talkin about toyota's, then he mentioned he had a '83 in his backyard that needed a headgasket and would let it go for $100. I havent talked to him since. I dont want to get his hopes up if I cant find a place to store it. And, your S-10 isnt a 1/2 ton pickup
  16. I was planning on keeping the axles, tranny, transfercase, maybe the engine and sending the rest to scrap steel. but again, I have nowhere to store it... i would give it to you for nothing but you'd have to figure out how to get it up to you.
  17. The video's were near useless. Guess thats what I get for letting my buddies girlfriend record. I can put them up i guess, but im alittle disapointed in their quality. And on the spare parts, i have a lead on a '83 Toy, needs a headgasket and the guy wants $100. If i had a place to park it, i would have all the spare parts I could ever need. Just can't have a parts truck at my house
  18. Yeah im not going to risk it until i have an extra birf, axle shafts & driveshaft.
  19. Yup, we got the trucks and trailers from work. For a grand total of $0.00 for a weekend rental Only cost $70 in gas, but was well worth the piece of mind. There's no way my truck would have drove home with the driveshaft bent as bad as it is. Fordyce is no joke. I hear it makes the Rubicon look like a forest service road. Im hoping to have the truck ready for Fordyce this time next year, but i am going to take it slow. Gears and lockers are fine for the Rubicon, but fordyce you need a winch... and ALOT of spare parts.
  20. I'd still like to see it, how many years has it been? Ive only seen one screenshot of your video. I searched high and low for the plaque you guys have a picture of, and it wasn't on any section we were on either. Its possible its on the Wentworth side of the trail, we put in at Loon Lake & wheeled to Buck Island and back. Next time I want to go in from Wentworth. I hear its alot easier
  21. Two Kegs. They are welded together and act as his fuel cell. Everybody we pass on the trail comments about it
  22. Yeah. This trail is definatly not Subaru passable. And I know Ken, Eric, and them say they did it.. but I tell you, i had doubts before... and now after traveling it, i have even more doubts. But thats not an argument Im willing to get into. This trail is beautiful and it passes some of the most scenic places Ive ever been to.
  23. More Pix: I should be getting my buddies pictures tomorrow so there will be more pix of my truck. I took the camcorder, but didnt get much footage at all. Most of the tricky stuff we dont have pictures cause we both were too busy navigating the trail. If i wasnt driving, i was spotting him... and if he wasnt driving, he was spotting me.
  24. It kicked my rump roast!! WOW, that trail is NUTS. Seriously. I took the bypass to most of the difficult stuff, but even the bypasses were not without challenge. Good news was both Toyotas made it in and out without any critical damage. Per the GPS we traveled 6.8 miles each way, so thats almost 14miles of pure granite mayhem. The only pix I have right now are from my camera, so most of them are of my buddies truck. I have a few of mine, but when I get his pictures I will have a ton more. Here are a few, the rest can be viewed here: http://photos.bydemons.com/v/mytruck/rubicon/
