  1. I once fit EA81 rims to a EA82 and they fit fine... ...then I replaced my brake pads and ran into all sorts of trouble. So yeah... EA82 rims will work on a EA81 just fine... but not the other way around. Unless you have no brake pads left
  2. Make sure you have slack on the throttle cable too. I fought this problem with my weber install and realized the adapter I made for the throttle cable put too much tension on the cable and it wouldnt allow it to fully release. I would actually disconnect the throttle cable and tune the carburator... then reconnect the cable and if the idle changes create more slack.
  3. It will still happen, just not this weekend. Next weekend is out for me, and the weekend after that is Xmas, with New years following that. So it looks like January will be our next chance.
  4. Yeah for you guys at the higher elevation it'll be easier on you. Me on the other hand, not so much. Last time I went to Reno before a snowstorm, I tried to drive home the next day and there was a bus accident on I80. They detoured all the traffic to highway 20 and it took me 5 hours to get home...
  5. I saw the weather report for this weekend and there is a storm rolling in. They say Friday & Saturday its gonna get bad, Sunday its going to be NASTY! I think it's safe to call it off right now.
  6. He's not in Cali, just has a Cali spec car. I dunno what that is man.
  7. For those of you who haven't done this before.... ....remove the turbo.
  8. I have done more Axles than I care to remember, and Ive driven the pins from both sides without problem. Ive always used a 3/16 punch, beveled side or not it never gave me trouble. However, i don't live in the rust belt and im sure the guys on the east coast have a harder time than us on the west. If you are having this much trouble, I suggest a torch... however, be careful because torches can cause more damage than good if used impropperly. -Brian p.s. if you think its frusterating now, just wait until you remove the shaft from the hub and find out it took the inner bearing out with it.... then your in for a axle replacement AND bearings.
  9. So does that mean you don't want to go Jeremy? I have my jacket and gloves ready!
  10. I sold my old brat to a guy who lived in Arizona. He flew to Sacramento and drove it home. So I know for a fact there is at least one other.
  11. Wow that is way out of the way. Would probably take me 2 or 3 hours to drive out there. Kinda want to make this a one day gig JB. That map is of an area I've gone wheelin in the Toyota. Great scenery for sure! Woke up this morning and had to scrape my windows, so I think camping this weekend will be out of the question
  12. JB, do you have a map of the area?? And Greenley, i got something to give you as well... so hopefully you can make it
  13. Just as far for you as it is for me. You have anywhere in Tahoe you'd like to meet Greenley?
  14. The only problem with Kyburz is it is on the hwy50 side, and its quite a drive for the Reno Folk. Dave, if you are going to be in Yuba City on Sunday, driving out... i think my house is between the two and we can drive up together. I'll check my phone to see if the # is still stored.
  15. Here is another shot of SJR's strut extensions to show just how burley they really are: I say the best lift is the one that raises the body from the ground. They all do it, and they are all pretty much the same. Unless you are jumping your car like Phiz over there, you will run into very little problems. This mod, like so many others, will require some altering and modifications to your Subaru to fit and perform propperly.
  16. I love having an online account with NAPA Here are some part numbers for you. These are for a 1986 1600cc 2 door (which you have). Clutch Cable: ATM 0743005 Clutch Kit: ATM 0763001 Those are NAPA part numbers.
  17. I have used PCI kits on both my RX and my Legacy Turbo. The RX Kit came with everything complete and worked great! The Turbo Legacy kit came with everything complete, and the belt even had the markings required for a seamless installation. I definatly give the PCI Brand 5 stars... you shouldn't have to worry at all when ordering your kit.
  18. Thats kinda what I was thinking as well... that or the big bear/eagle lakes area.
  19. So is everybody okay with Sunday the 14th?? Dave I know you will be out of town on the 13th... you gonna be rested and ready for Sunday? Now the question remains, where to meet?
  20. Im not willing to beat up my brat, if its "fender safe" wheelin then maybe. I think the 14th sounds good though.
  21. On our way to the WCSS8. Jibs & I drove from Nevada to Oregon through central Oregon... stopping at Crater Lake & spending an entire day wheelin' in Bend Or. The best G*DDAMN ROAD TRIP EVER!! Once we were there, more fun was to be had. After this session in the mud pit, I ended up grenading a rear CV and bending both my front Struts. The 2 day drive home was fun, trying to keep things moving straight. ..........now...... (you didn't specify "subaru only" ) No, but this >Ultimate Subaru Message Board > Subarus > Subaru MotorSports > Off Road
  22. If your replacement stereo doesn't use a common ground for the speakers, then I would recommend you run new wiring from the deck to the speaker. Its a pain in the arse, but really its the best way. You may also want to probe for a constant 12V and a switched 12V for your new stereo as well. The stock stereo has a switched 12V, but im not sure if there is a constant 12V because it doesn't have a memory to store. -Brian
  23. Yeah there is a hole on the side of the carb that supplies vacuum or pressure to the diaphram. I plugged it with a screw when I did my mod.
  24. Next time you drive the car, try to go from a rolling start and then stomp on it. If you get a huge dead spot, then the car goes like stink.. chances are it has the mod done. The secondary mod forces the second barrel to open when throttle gets past 3/4 to WOT. However, usually the second barrel isnt primed and you get a lean condition before it forces fuel through... this is what causes a dead spot in the acceleration. But after that, its usually noticable. It's hard to see if the mod was performed if the vacuum diaphram is still attatched. It blocks the linkage and makes it hard to see. Here's a small write-up I did on the mod: http://4lug.bydemons.com/index.php?view=items&cid=1%3Amods&id=3%3Amodified-hitachi-2bbl-carburator-ea81&option=com_quickfaq&Itemid=6
