NWNV: Carson City Pick 'n' Pull yard anyone ???
Always good. A super secret reliable subaru would do you good. The brat has been running great. Not sure if its good enough to make it to Reno & back, last time I left Reno it cost me $300 to have the Legacy towed home... but I've been meaning to come up and hang. I just picked up a new wheelin' rig. Maybe I can make it up in that. Gotta get your Lifted brat going so we can all go out and get dirty!

Got rid of my Pickup.... ...replaced with a 4Runner
Sold the legacy. Then I sold my pickup. The pickup was alittle beatup and needed more work than I felt comfortable putting into it. So I sold it, and used the money from both sales to pick this baby up! That is the only pic I have now. But here are the spec's: Trail Gear SAS kit with 4" Trail Gear front springs 63" Chevy Rear springs with scissor shackles 4.88 gears front & rear Detroit Locker rear. 22RE EFI (smogged, tagged, ready to roll) Trail Gear axle armor & sliders Bilstein long travel shocks in front with ranchos in rear 35in Pro Comp Mud Terrains mounted on black rock crawler rims I drove about 100miles away to pick it up. Then drove it home. Freeway manners are well. It can hold 70mph steady and doesn't feel like it wants to drift. Drives straight and smooth. But none of that matters, its all about its off-road performance. Can't wait to go test it out!! Thats the only pic I have right now. I'll try to take it out this weekend for some more.

New Camera = New Brat Pix!
Had the camera and was outside, so I figured I would snap off some shots with the bar & lights. I dunno. I think it looks alittle goofy with the lights right now. Maybe if it had bigger tires it would fit right... for now im too lazy to remove them so they stay

New Camera = New Brat Pix!
I would love to see pix of that Patrick. We will truely have Twins. I mounted my roll bar, I will have to get some good daytime shots of it... maybe tomorrow.

I'm torn...
Where is the fun in that?? Lift it, and then rally it! No reason you can't do both.

New Camera = New Brat Pix!

New Camera = New Brat Pix!
Thanks Beast. I am working on getting the Targa stripe. I want to find a shop that will install it. I dont want to risk screwing it up. And I agree on the tires. they ride real nice... but now that I have the rollbar installed it looks a tad goofy. And I am planning on getting a pushbar as well. I am tossing around the idea of a mild 2" lift. Nothing too big, just enough to comfortably fit some 14" rims and a tad larger tires.

I live in Rhode Island and Costa Rica looking to buy a nice brat
150,000 miles is hardly even broken in, in Subaru terms.

Rollbar prepped & Installed in my Brat
The drivers seat is from a Legacy, and the passenger seat is from a EA82 GL10 Wagon. When I bought the Brat, it had GL10 seats in it, and I had a set of modified Legacy seats left over from my Hatchback that I saved. I put the drivers seat in, it is definatly more comfortable than the GL10 seat. Soon I will put the passenger seat in. It really clashes with the black interior, but my butt doesn't mind

Rollbar prepped & Installed in my Brat
Picked up this rollbar from NewSoobDude last week. It didn't have alot of surface rust, but enough that it needed attention. So I sanded most of the rust off, and sprayed a few coats of gloss black. Tomorrow I will install and wire a couple lights Here are some pix of it when I got it: After some Paint: And a couple pix of it installed. I think while I'm at work tomorrow I will weld it together. It breaks apart into 4 pieces & right now as you can see, the center section is spread out some.

New Toy, 88 RX
Nope, the RX has a transmission like your LEgacy. Its all-wheel-drive. Full Time 4WD is the same thing. it cannot be shifted out of 4WD. The Dual Range means there is a normal (high) range and a Low Range. The diff lock just locks the center diff, making it 50/50 front to rear. When its unlocked, whichever end of the car that has the least amount of traction gets most the power... like any open diff would act.

I vote for the EJ22 swap. That car deserves it. The EA82T will only disapoint you.

newbieish questions for the learned
a LSD would only create more understeer. Dependings on the driving conditions, but the LSD will have a tendency to push the front wheels which results in more understeer. You can find a LSD in EVERY RX. They are also optional for all EA82's but the 3.7 gear ratio kept them limited to 3.7 transmissions which were full time 4WD. So RX's and 1988 to 1989 GL10 Turbo Wagons & Sedans with Full Time 4WD transmissions may have them.

newbieish questions for the learned
Q 1,2 ; How would I spot one of these coveted items in a junk yard? What do they come out of? All LSD diff's have a label on the rear with the Gear Ratio, and in huge letters they say LSD next to them. Another quick and easy way to tell is to rotate one tire... of the other tire rotates the same direction it is a LSD... if the other tire rotates in the opposite direction its a regular open diff. Q 3 ; If I had a center differential, I could run a different gear ratio on the rear axle than the front? No! Q 4,5 ; Is that something I could add onto my one range 5 spd or is it part of a wholly different gearbox? What gear box is that? The only way to get a locking center diff... or a center diff at all, is to replace the entire transmission. Q 6; what is the 'locking' in locking center differential? Most AWD cars have an open center diff that works like your open front or rear diff. Which ever end of the car has the least amount of traction gets the most amount of power. Your Single Range 4WD has no diff, its always locked. On RX's, the open center diff can be locked with a switch... giving true 50/50 front to rear when locked. Q 7; anyone know what the power bias on the one button wonders is? 50/50 Q 8; Why is this Loyale so prone to crazy understeer? Can anything be done to reduce that? Slow Down. Q 9; What is the weight of my 1990 Loyale RS compared to an XT of the same vintage? No Clue. Q 10; is it just me or did they only make the RS to use up RX parts? Maybe. Or to lower the cost of production while keeping the "Good Look" Your Transmission is Single Range 4 Wheel Drive, not an All Wheel Drive. The RX has a Full Time 4WD which is what everybody now refers to as All Wheel Drive. 4WD gearboxes can be switched from 2WD to 4WD. They do not have a center diff. When you engage 4WD, both front and rear diff's get 100% of the engines power, split 50/50. You cannot use them on Pavement as there is no "give" in the transmission and things begin to bind. AWD Transmissions are Always 4WD and cannot be switched into 2WD. They have a Center Diff that can let the front end spin alittle faster than the rear or vise versa. Current AWD cars are more computer controlled and can detect slip in each wheel and adjust to make sure power goes where the traction is. None of the EA82 Cars are that complex.

NOR CAL FOLKS! (Esp. Sac Town)
Yeah.... my brat isn't going in the snow. I might know how to drive in it, but i can't trust the other 10,000 yahoo's on the road. If someone hit my Brat, it would be a complete write-off. Have a good time.

Hey Jurrel, long time... was wondering where you dissapeared to. Did you get the brat smogged? The way things are going, looks like Brat's might dominate if we get some sort of meet happenin!

Do-It-Yourself Bedliner...
Another concern of mine is the California summers. Im not sure how well my do-it-yourself job will hold up to 100+ temp's.

Do-It-Yourself Bedliner...
Yeah but my old roof rack i did a pretty half assed job on. I used primer and only one coat of bed liner, and i brushed it on instead of rolling it on. But I think with my day off tomorrow Im going to visit the local Line-X dealer and get a quote.

Do-It-Yourself Bedliner...
subiemech, did you do the work yourself?? And what kind of prep. did you perform prior to applying it. I saw the duplicolor stuff used on Extreme 4x4 this weekend, and the final product looked pretty good. They did not go into high detail on the prep & applying the product, but im sure if they backed it up then it couldnt be crap. This was also a $40,000 project they were working on, so they didn't use the do-it-yourself job to save money.

Do-It-Yourself Bedliner...
So one gallon did about 2 complete coats?? Sweet, im thinking 1.5 gallon for 3 coats should do the trick then?

Do-It-Yourself Bedliner...
Has anybody here had any experience with the do-it-yourself type bedliner?? I am going to be doing some repairs to my bed, and once im done I want to have the bed coated. I dont feel like paying a shop a couple hundred and figure I could do it myself for under a hundred. Just curious how much of a mess I am in for, what sort of prep I need to do and maybe any tips & tricks to applying this stuff.
