  1. So I took the 4Runner on a 8 day camping trip over the memorial day weekend. And it performed flawlessly. I was overly impressed.... but that's a whole 'nother thread & story. One of the flaws that did turn into a peeve of mine, was the configuration of my CB radio & antenna install. My installation consisted of the following: $40 Walmart CB Radio (hey! its a Cobra brand!) $15 Walmart Magenetic Mount CB Antenna I didn't have the time when I bought the stuff to do a final install, so the CB radio was just bouncing around the cab the entire time. I wheel alone, so most of the time, it would sit in the passenger seat. But it would have to remain upside down so the speaker was facing towards me. If not, I would not hear a thing my buddies would say. So after getting home, I setforth a more perminant configuration. I actually did something similar like this to my old Pickup, but i ran into problems last time and this time I knew what to avoid. First thing first was to mount my CB. I was able to move my Stereo down a spot in the console, which worked out great, since the mounts for my CB radio matched the stock Toyota Stereo location. Where the stereo is now, there used to be a storage cubby. And the CB radio is sitting where the Stereo used to be mounted. Still plenty of space for other goodies. So a trip to Radio Shack & Ace Hardware, I came home with a couple bags of goodies. I want to make a metal sheet that will cover the stereo & cb, and will also support switches & gauges. Like I said, i did something similar before, but a different aproach this time. First step was to remove the existing console face, that held the cigarette lighter & window switch. Then I traced a cardboard template to fit over it. I fixed it to the console with a couple screws, and bent it to shape. Then start to plot out where things would go: I found some nice switches at radioshack to add to my window switch. These switches are small and compact on the backside, which makes it easy to stack them close together. There we see where everything should go. Now to trim alittle, and see if it fits the truck without any complications. From the drivers view, fits perfect! Now its time to trace the cardboard template onto a metal sheet I have, and make the final piece. Oh, and you might be wondering how I will hear my friends over the CB, with the speaker facing my stereo?? Aux speaker, mounted to the right of the drivers head I also had to do something about that piece of crap Walmart antenna. I was suprised to see Radioshack still carried old fassion mirror mount antenna & accessories. So i got a "whip" with mount & cable, and spent extra for a spring to put between the two. I had a problem with branches, or hard jolts dislodging my old magnetic mounted antenna.... ...well this baby aint going anywhere!! Downfall is, i will have to bend it forward while the cap is on, which will mess with its reception. But i dont think im going to be putting to top back on until the end of August, maybe September. I'll update this, and add more as I get things done.
  2. Who needs a title?? Is it registered? Thats all that counts.
  3. I saw the thread. Im not sure man. I have to test the EA81 in my Brat before I attempt to drive it to the WCSS. You going to have the title for the brat in time for the show?
  4. Hows that brat running? Would be sweet, 3 brats out on a camping trip!
  5. When do you want to go? My gear is easy to pack. Just gotta find some spare parts to bring incase the Brat doesn't make it
  6. Somewhere Brat safe? Im down for a camping trip!
  7. If there is one thing I have learned from the many WCSS's i have attended.. ..always bring artificial shade Last Year:
  8. I say on the way home we hit up crater lake again, maybe this time we'll get to see it without a forest fire ruining it.
  9. Im pretty confident these tired old EA81's can get us there and back. Just need to make sure to bring a few spare parts... like alternators, starters, fuel pumps. maybe even distributors. I think im going to spend a week or two workin on the brat, to get it ready for the trip.
  10. I remember that route, its a nice one Dave. Bend is a great place to stay too. When Jibs & I took that route last, we had time to stop at Crater Lake.
  11. I was going to PM all you guys, but this should work faster and we can all collaborate. I myself am not 100% sure I can make the trip. My largest concern is the Brat making it and back, and then after that in a close second is the cost of fuel & food. Time off may not be a big deal though.
  12. I would narrow it a few inches so it doesnt stick out so far.
  13. An intercooler will help no matter how little boost you are running. You will definatly want to install one with this pplication.
  14. Sunday the 16th is no good for me. And the entire week following i'll be camping, thru till the end of Memorial day weekend.
  15. I wont be using an adapter for my swap. I want to use a Legacy or Impreza 5spd, weld the center diff and have a RWD EJ22 Brat
  16. JB your going to need to find someone to make you some custom axles. The FT4WD tranny is 25 spline, and all EA81's are 23 spline. And the EA82T 25 spline axles are too long to work in the brat. Best bet might be to cut some EA81 axles and EA82 axles in half, and have them welded back together. EA81 hub side, to EA82T tranny side... at the same length as a EA81 axle would be.
  17. I dont know, i stole those pictures off the internet. I wish my rig had those
  18. Yup, you should have done your homework before you bought them. No clue what 390mm rims are even doing in the US. Tires are impossible, and alternatives are unsafe.
  19. did you put a gasket between the adapter and the manifold??
  20. If you haven't traveled this trail, you better do it this year or the next. It won't be open much longer. And the closure will be a huge victory for tree-huggers everywhere, then all of our trails are in danger.
  21. Thats a good looking truck Chux! The front suspension looks funny I wish mine had a moonroof.
