NOR CAL FOLKS! (Esp. Sac Town)
TheSubaruJunkie replied to RdNkBrt's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Hey Jurrel, long time... was wondering where you dissapeared to. Did you get the brat smogged? The way things are going, looks like Brat's might dominate if we get some sort of meet happenin! -
Do-It-Yourself Bedliner...
TheSubaruJunkie replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Another concern of mine is the California summers. Im not sure how well my do-it-yourself job will hold up to 100+ temp's. -
Do-It-Yourself Bedliner...
TheSubaruJunkie replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yeah but my old roof rack i did a pretty half assed job on. I used primer and only one coat of bed liner, and i brushed it on instead of rolling it on. But I think with my day off tomorrow Im going to visit the local Line-X dealer and get a quote. -
Do-It-Yourself Bedliner...
TheSubaruJunkie replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
subiemech, did you do the work yourself?? And what kind of prep. did you perform prior to applying it. I saw the duplicolor stuff used on Extreme 4x4 this weekend, and the final product looked pretty good. They did not go into high detail on the prep & applying the product, but im sure if they backed it up then it couldnt be crap. This was also a $40,000 project they were working on, so they didn't use the do-it-yourself job to save money. -
Do-It-Yourself Bedliner...
TheSubaruJunkie replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
So one gallon did about 2 complete coats?? Sweet, im thinking 1.5 gallon for 3 coats should do the trick then? -
Has anybody here had any experience with the do-it-yourself type bedliner?? I am going to be doing some repairs to my bed, and once im done I want to have the bed coated. I dont feel like paying a shop a couple hundred and figure I could do it myself for under a hundred. Just curious how much of a mess I am in for, what sort of prep I need to do and maybe any tips & tricks to applying this stuff.

Quick question!
TheSubaruJunkie replied to baggyshorts's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I say you take the $250 you were going to spend on a EA81, and buy a timing belt kit... then do the work yourself. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1986-1994-Subaru-1-8-GL-DL-Loyale-Timing-Belt-Kit-EA82_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a1205Q7c66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a12Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318Q7c301Q3a1Q7c293Q3a1Q7c294Q3a50QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem220352434323QQitemZ220352434323QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories There is the kit you need. Its alot less than $250 and shouldn't take more than 5 days to get to you. There is plenty of documentation here on the board to walk you through it. I used that same kit on my EA82 turbo, and it worked great. It has everything you need. Also, do not worry about your valves. The engine is a non-interference engine and breaking a timing belt will do absolutly no harm to anything else at all. -
So what did this "Subaru Only for 30 years" shop say when you asked them about this problem?
-
Yeah probably. However, if you had a shop replace both CV joints, they would have been able to tell immediately that a bearing was bad, and if it was a reputable shop they should have warned you and not even installed the CV's without replacing the bearings.

Ronald Reagan's old ranch Brat
TheSubaruJunkie replied to Turbone's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
+1 for the restoration. That Brat looked worn and torn, and if they are going to have it on perminant display at his Ranch, I believe it should look like it did the day he drove it home from the Dealer. Im sure they did some restoration on his ranch as well, so its only fitting. Its a spectacular piece of history. It made mention of an Enthusiast named Todd... would that be Subaru3 by chance? -
New Camera = New Brat Pix!
TheSubaruJunkie replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I wish mine was all original, however it is more modified as it sits now, than I could ever do on my own. Its not an original brat by any means, but still... its too pretty to lift and beat up. -
Motivation to repair
TheSubaruJunkie replied to NoahDL88's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I have the same problem Noah. I realized that I just have to get off my rump roast and stop making excuses. There's only one way something you want done will get accomplished, you gotta just do it. Like Ed said, start small. Just get out there and start turning a wrench on something simple. Slowly you will remember how much joy you get out of working on your Subaru. Once you are done with one project, you will be more motivated to move onto the next. Before you know it, a couple weeks have gone by and you are packing the car, getting it ready for its next wheelin' trip. -

They are worth whatever somebody is willing to pay for them. I'll tell you, they are getting harder and harder to find. -

TheSubaruJunkie replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yeah, odd huh Dave?? Something about this one, I don't feel like butchering it like the many other Subaru's I've owned in the past. -
I need to get some High-Def pictures of Targa stripes installed on a Brat. From any and all angles possible. I plan on finding a shop that can install some aftermarket stripes for me, however, I want to make sure they install them as close to factory spec's as possible. The higher the definition the better. Thanks, -Brian

New Camera = New Brat Pix!
TheSubaruJunkie replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yeah, the Gas door came to me like that... i know the front of the truck is from a '83 Wagon, don't know what year the brat half is. I assume any wagon/sedan/hatch gas door would work though. And I also like how it sits with the rear lowered. Just not motivated enough to make the necessary modifications to keep it that way. -

Thanks Patrick. Also, the tires are working pretty good. Handling is good, but its still a EA81... so its not a sports car or anything. The most noticeable difference is acceleration. Although I do hit 80mph on the freeway and im barely passing people, or keeping up. Im sure the speedo is way off.
