Wow Ed, this whole time I thought the prev. owner bought your alloys. You mean there are two sets this nice in existance???! I installed my bed chrome, then decided to take the Brat to one of my favorite picture spots to get some better background shots... 56K go get coffee.... -
New Camera = New Brat Pix!

Ed, was this not your set? -
Got sick of the old 2megapixel sony piece of crap Ive been using. Makes the Brat look worse on the computer than in real life... so I went and picked up a new 8 megapixel Canon. Now I can get some decent shots... snapped these quickies on the way home from the store, might go back out and get some more with better scenery after I install the bed chrome.

Any local Napa will have a replacement stud. Remove your wheel, take a large hammer and a large punch, and drive the stud out of the hub. When installing the new one, you can put it through the hub, and use the lugnut itself to press the stud into the hub.

Flat towing with d/r EA81?
TheSubaruJunkie replied to Wirebrush's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
EA81's should only have a single piece driveline. If you remove it you will lose all your gear oil from the tranny. With the Tranny in neutral, you should be fine. I believe it is only Automatics you will have problems flat towing. -
The EA81 and EA81T heads are completely different. The engines themselfs are different. EA81's are carburated EA81T's are MPFI There is a computer that controls the EA81T. Each head has fuel injection ports. The pistons are different to lower compression ratio. If you wanted to cheat, you could do a SPFI conversion and bolt on a Turbo. But the ECU that runs a SPFI may not operate correctly if intake manifold pressure goes into the positive.

Yeah more often than not we all converge at JB's place up past Reno. I can't trust my Brat to get me that far. Last time I met up with the guys in Nevada, it cost me $300 to get my car towed home. My BBQ is nothing more than a few pre-cooked brauts on the grille with store bought potato salad and some good ole' root brewski. You guys are starting to make me hungry. -

The truth of the EA82T and intercoolers
TheSubaruJunkie replied to 4x4_Welder's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I noticed a huge difference in my RX after installing an intercooler. This was a top mount, with no scoop. I say it is well worth the time and effort. -
Sweet car chase.

HAHAHA thats what I was thinking. But part of me wanted them to go slower so I could get a better look at the cars. That red one didn't even look like a Subaru from behind. Wow... what great footage! -
getting an XT turbo - affraid !
TheSubaruJunkie replied to oskar_subaru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
+1 for the intercooler. However, if you install an intercooler its a good idea to install a bypass valve. The EA82T in stock form has no BOV or BPV, just a contraption that keeps the throttle body from slamming shut, but it doesn't do a good job if you add an intercooler. A Saab 900 Intercooler & Bypass valve are what I used on my EA82T and it worked great. Here is a shot of my intercooler installed: Here is a shot of the bypass valve and how I routed it: If your XT has a spider intake, things may look alittle different, but the same applies. Neither of these modifications will cause any harm. They, in theory, should do only good. However, if you start to mess with the boost and fuel ratio's then the EA82T gets crabby & doesnt play well. -

His box has been full for months. Ive had to resort to calling him via telephone -
Yeah your right. This is a pretty tough subject. I can understand how your searches would fail... we hardly ever talk about any of this anymore Maybe we should create some sort of off-road forum for questions specifically like this one.

83 Brat Turbo Update
TheSubaruJunkie replied to XT6 Magic's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
You can't compare that brat to a pristine brat. TO get that brat to pristine condition, you would need to tear it apart and rebuild it. That alone will reduce its value. -

81 GL Engine Xmember Question
TheSubaruJunkie replied to Jibs's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
J, im almost positive the Gen2 will be wider than the Gen1. I could be wrong, and i hope I am. Power steering in a Gen1 would be awesome. -
Here is a picture of my old '84 Hatch. Same body, except this only has 2 doors. I have other pictures, but they aren't online right now. They do not share the same body as the Loyale.

Its the old style. You had pix of the other '84 didn't you?
