Yeah more often than not we all converge at JB's place up past Reno. I can't trust my Brat to get me that far. Last time I met up with the guys in Nevada, it cost me $300 to get my car towed home. My BBQ is nothing more than a few pre-cooked brauts on the grille with store bought potato salad and some good ole' root brewski. You guys are starting to make me hungry.

The truth of the EA82T and intercoolers
I noticed a huge difference in my RX after installing an intercooler. This was a top mount, with no scoop. I say it is well worth the time and effort.

HAHAHA thats what I was thinking. But part of me wanted them to go slower so I could get a better look at the cars. That red one didn't even look like a Subaru from behind. Wow... what great footage!

getting an XT turbo - affraid !
+1 for the intercooler. However, if you install an intercooler its a good idea to install a bypass valve. The EA82T in stock form has no BOV or BPV, just a contraption that keeps the throttle body from slamming shut, but it doesn't do a good job if you add an intercooler. A Saab 900 Intercooler & Bypass valve are what I used on my EA82T and it worked great. Here is a shot of my intercooler installed: Here is a shot of the bypass valve and how I routed it: If your XT has a spider intake, things may look alittle different, but the same applies. Neither of these modifications will cause any harm. They, in theory, should do only good. However, if you start to mess with the boost and fuel ratio's then the EA82T gets crabby & doesnt play well.

Yeah your right. This is a pretty tough subject. I can understand how your searches would fail... we hardly ever talk about any of this anymore Maybe we should create some sort of off-road forum for questions specifically like this one.

You can't compare that brat to a pristine brat. TO get that brat to pristine condition, you would need to tear it apart and rebuild it. That alone will reduce its value.

81 GL Engine Xmember Question
J, im almost positive the Gen2 will be wider than the Gen1. I could be wrong, and i hope I am. Power steering in a Gen1 would be awesome.

Do they make 6-lug wheels in 13"?
Chevy Luv have a 6 bolt pattern and 14" rims. Its what I used. For mud terrains, good luck. There are not many available anymore.

1981 Brat Lift Kit
If your a machinist, then you should have everything needed to perform the 6 lug. And if you are looking for larger rims & Tires its the easiest & cheapest way to find 14" rims. Your body style is a Gen1 and you must search for a Gen1 lift. No matter what the engine or headlight configuration. Like mentioned before, the rear of the Gen1 chassi is different than the Gen2, and that is where things get complicated. People have swapped a Gen2 rear torsion bar into a Gen1 brat to solve the problem, but the Gen2's are wider and the rear will look alittle goofy with a wider track. 2" or 3" of lift should be plenty to clear some larger tires. You wont be running 28" swampers or anything... unless you like cutting sheet metal.

1981 Brat Lift Kit
EA71 is the engine code for your car. EA81 is the 1800cc bigger brother. The engines were available in Subaru's from 1977 till 1984. In 1985 they introduced the EA82 which is 1800cc like the EA81, but OHC. The body style also changed in 1985. When we mention a "EA car" its usually refferencing the older generation. Since the new generation (Legacy, Impreza, Forester) all use engines with the EJ code (EJ18, EJ20, EJ22, EJ25).

alot of people, even lift manufacturers, have had trouble finding and developing a kit for the Gen1 Subarus (1977 to 1980 & 1981 Brats) Something with the rear end being different.

Yeah JB & I took care of this a couple years ago. I can't remember how we finally did it. But that swap has been done, and even pulled and placed in another brat by now Still some real good info floating around in this thread.

What kind of yota? I think my '84 pickup has a body lift that Im not transfering over to the 4runner. Not sure if it will work or not. This sunday im probably going to be busy, next sunday I dont know about.
