Tires, tires and oh yeah, tires
You get what you pay for. And with tires I never skimp! Because that is the only thing between the road and your car. Tires are said to have a shelf life of 8 years and then they are unpredictable. 155 will be real skinny and may not handle the load as intended. There is a reason Subaru recommends 175 for your vehicle. And how tall are they? There should be an additional number between the 155 & 13... they should be 155/??R13

The 4 Lug Club!!!
It would be primarily online, but of course local chapters would be ideal. I have something in beta form setup, Cobcob has been helping with idea's and suggestions. The software that runs the site is extremely versitile and it would not be difficult at all to setup regions if local chapters wanted their own space on the site to call their own and organize meets & events. I think the primary focus would be to centeralize as much information and make it as easy to access as possible. Forums are available but it wont be like other online forums where people can go to just ask questions and get answers, since I am hoping the answers will be readily available. I don't think we would cater much to the 5lug XT6 crowd but they are welcomed to join... as well as the 6 lug converted guys

The 4 Lug Club!!!
I was going to post this in the Off-Topic, but its kinda partial to only older-gen Subaru's. Some know, but I wanted to open this up to everyone else around here. Who would be interested in being part of a "old school only" club? The 4 lug part came to me when I saw a Loyale the other day. I thought to myself about all the changes that were made throughout the years but the lug pattern stayed the same. Its something that kind of binds us as an oldschool group. So yeah, i have some idea's in mind but cannot go at it alone. Lets see how much interest it gets

Advice on Subaru Brat
Just cause you can do it doesn't mean you should do it.

Advice on Subaru Brat
I own a '83 Brat, let me share some of my experiences with you. Your first point... commuting. Its great for commuting. Just hope you dont plan on bringing more than 1 person with you. 74hp is enough for me to cruise at 80mph on the freeway. I average 20mpg city/freeway combined. Hauling on the other hand. Like GD said, these are cars. Its just a car with no rear seats, instead a bed. A pretty small bed at that. I love my Brat because I can toss my mountain bike in the back and head to the trail. However, the bed isn't even long enough for my bike...i have to put my bike in at an angle. Doesn't bother me any, but gives you an idea on how small the bed is (and i dont have jumpseats, if I did i would have even LESS room). I did use my brat a couple weeks ago to haul a load of firewood home. It definatly held alot more wood than my Legacy Wagon, but I was scared ***************less driving home. Braking, steering and maneuverability was very sketchy. And I only loaded wood to the top of the bed. That same trip I used my hitch (yes, i got a hitch with a 2" ball) to tow a log splitter to my friends house. The log splitter is light enough for me to move by hand, but I could tell it was on the back of my brat while driving. Not enough weight to push me through stoplights or anything, but enough to effect the way the rear of my Brat performed in corners. So with that being said, its definatly NOT a truck. Don't expect to haul your camping trailer to the woods. Don't expect to run to home depot and grab the materials to build a new deck. But DO expect to have a great time and turn ALOT of heads! -Brian

For the rear.. yes For the front.. no.

Replace HG's without pulling engine?
Jeremy, save your back and pull the motor. It *can* be done, but the time you save pulling the motor will be wasted by wrestling around in that tiny engine bay.

Wierd Electrical Grimlins, don't know where to start ('83 Brat)
I havent checked yet GD. And Crockett, no I do not have anything left from the Hatch. Also, the local junkyards hasn't seen a decent EA81 in a long long time.

Wierd Electrical Grimlins, don't know where to start ('83 Brat)
hahahah!!!! The fuel gauge is quirky as well. It shows empty after only about 150 miles. And no, the low fuel indicator never comes on. Im not looking forward to pulling the dash and messing with the gauges. But I think you are right. The prev. owner probably just started plugging stuff into different wiring... *sigh* I guess I'll figure it out when I do my EJ swap.

Wierd Electrical Grimlins, don't know where to start ('83 Brat)
Well I know the door switch works, because it is triggering my BRAKE LAMP indicator. And every EA81 ive owned, the dome light was turned on by the dimmer switch. At least, i think it was... its been a few years. Maybe im getting old.

Wierd Electrical Grimlins, don't know where to start ('83 Brat)
So get this right... When I turn the dash lights all the way up and click the knob... it should turn my dome light on. Instead, it turns on the low fuel indicator near the gauge. Doesnt matter how much fuel is there. Also. If I open my door, the "BRAKE LAMP" light on the dash comes on. And my Voltmeter only works after 4pm. Well, it probably works before 4pm, but it doesn't work at 7am when I drive to work... but at 4pm on the way home it does. I have no idea where to even start. Anyone have any suggestions?

Which tires for the Brat? 175/50R13 or 215/50R13?
I cannot deny the hottness. I think im second guessing the rim choice I have, I may start lookin for 14's... not sure yet.

Rear axle differences EA81
Yup, they will be identical.

Which tires for the Brat? 175/50R13 or 215/50R13?
The brat currently has 185/80s on it. They are too tall for me. This brat wont see any dirt or mud, i got a truck for all that. Im thinking of lowering it alittle.

'87 GL problems
If the motor turns over but wont start, then try spraying some starter fluid into the throttle body. if you dont have starter fluid, then carb cleaner/brake cleaner/throttle body cleaner will do. If it fires up and stalls, then you have some sort of fuel problem. If it doesnt, chances are you have no spark. Those are the first two things you need to check... fuel & spark. If the car wont even turn over, then I suggest checking the battery to make sure its not dead.

Here comes the rain
I love this weather. Makes me want to turn my Brat into RWD and do some drifts

Which tires for the Brat? 175/50R13 or 215/50R13?
Ok, lets change the subject alittle here. I could care less about my MPG with the brat. Im sure I could put 33" swampers on it, and still get better mileage than I get with my Legacy. What im most concerned with is performance. Im thinking the 185/60 will do nicely. Now i just gotta figure out what to do to reduce the gap between the tire and the fender

Which tires for the Brat? 175/50R13 or 215/50R13?
Yeah, i think im going to go with the 185/60s

22R head removal
Yeah, thanks guys. I finished the head job a couple weeks ago. Was pretty easy. Zip tied the chain to the timing sprocket. Also, I removed the chain with the #1 cyl at TDC, then I used a center punch and marked the position of the cam. I transfered the old cam to the new head, and when I reassembled it all I verified the position of the cam had not changed. It fired right up and has never ran so good. I didnt look at the guides or anything. Im not overly concerned about it at this point.

Which tires for the Brat? 175/50R13 or 215/50R13?
Yeah carfreak, i saw that. Those tires dont look practical for everyday use. But how well did they fit?

Which tires for the Brat? 175/50R13 or 215/50R13?
Thanks ed. I know how to read tire size.... 185mm wide, 50% of 185mm in height from rim edge to the tread. Im sure a 185/60 would be lighter than a 185/70. And a 175/50 would definatly be lighter than both. I remember fitting 205's to my RX without any problem, my old brat had 195's but they were on 15" pugs. Also, ive been lookin for rims with white lettering, but cant seem to find any.
