Rear only. Only subies that came out of the factory with front LSD's are STi's, and I am not sure if all of those had them even...

I agree. But really it was a spare of the moment thing...

FT4WD center diff question
Phizinza replied to Phizinza's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Thats awesome! Thanks. So from what I see there the center diff goes between the trans output and rear diff. So the front diff is always connected to the output? And doesn't go through the center diff? I always kinda wondered where they put the center diff Thanks for sharing. -
The question then to ask is how do you get those bolts out on the stubs?? I had no luck and thats why the diff stayed in the case. As you can see I took the stub seals off and there wasn't much heat at the prop shaft end so I doubt I done any seal damage. It isn't leaking yet anyhow.

That's interesting. I have never had a problem with that mount. It's always been the others. My brother used blue RTV on the 3 engine mount in the Mazda 626 turbo. They were cracking and there was more then healthy shaking under the hood. After the RTV it got better. Don't know how long it would last as the 626 blow it's second gearbox (rare things to find) and got wrecked.

FT4WD center diff question

Keep it friendly now. I've got all the info I need, so feel free to go off topic or leave this thread to die. -
I think his talking about the diff hanger mounts. Those two big round ones. The only reason there rubber is because of diff noise isn't it? So soild would be fine I guess.

your figuring this out aren't you... stop! hahaha. I need to ring around to see what a FT4WD box costs around here... Pitty you can't find this sort of thing in local wreckers. One thing I can say is my brother and I have a interesting plan on making a rear lockable diff out of a 3.7 open MY diff... More on that later. I might just go start pulling my old diff apart...

Makes me feel like beating someone up til you can't recognize them anymore.. If I catch anyone burning out a stolen car (little own a subaru) I don't know if I will be able to restain myself....

Ok, so you'd only give out one each per person? I failed to do any math, to lazy for that. I think what would work better in most countries though would be some thing more along the lines of food? Money does nothing when your 500km+ away from a shop and don't even own an animal. Back to my last post about the D/R Liberty box. I just read it isn't to hard to fit the 1.51:1 low gear set from (what we aussies call) a L-series into the D/R liberty box. So that cuts down on a lot of the cost.. This is becoming more do able and less dreamable EDIT: as I don't want to post another off topic post I'll reply to the thread below here. Theres a lot of people that don't even live with money, or even know what it is/does. Theres so much more needed then just giving people money or food to getting everything back on track. If you give farmers food, then they start replying on it. Then soon (50 - 100 years) they don't know how to farm anymore.. And the way things are going now there isn't enough jobs that arn't farming to give everyone a decent wage to live on around the entire world. What we need to do I guess is stop taking from them, stop ruining the climate, and just let them live how they have always lived. I also don't think our way of life is sustainable in anyway at all. If you want to continue this, I suggest starting it in the Off Topic forum. Personally I have nothing more to say, and I don't want to say anymore. Politics ain't my thing. But what is to be commended here is Noah's generosity to others. Even if the idea would or wouldn't work.

Nice... What was down the hill on the other side?

It's so funny watching big trucks in the sand, while to breeze past in your roo.. I'll never forget that. I don't like keeping secrets, but this is an idea I want to try before letting everyone else do it. I want to be the first :-p

FT4WD center diff question
Phizinza replied to Phizinza's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
oh no... don't stoop so low you comment on spelling mistakes.. This forum was going so well without stupid comments lately too (exception given to GD) I know it's all in good fun. -
FT4WD center diff question
Phizinza replied to Phizinza's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I think I am gonna have to just get one and open it up to see what they are like. Unless anyone have pictures of a opened up FT4WD trans? -
Yeah, I plan on putting my EJ22 in as well. But I have some other ideas. Will share with everyone in the near future. Only clue at the moment is I am looking for a FT4WD box, but I don't plan on using it My EA81 seems to push this welded rear along quite nicely. I had doubts as someone I went offroading with said you need a EA82t or more to drive these locked rears... Pitty my local offroad spot got closed down, now I have to travle for 2+ hours to have fun Unless I go back on the beach, but my car didn't have much troubles on the beach with open diffs

FT4WD center diff question
Phizinza replied to Phizinza's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
What about the RX's (85-89?) did all their FT4WD boxes have center diff lock? -
I see one problem. Unless you take these $100 bills from rich people the money would soon become worthless as having billions of dollars just appear out of no where would cause the US dollar to drop to the point where you'd need $1000 just to buy a loaf of bread. Great idea, but unless you take it from someone I don't think it would work
-
If you done anything like that here they would just defect your car on the spot and you would have to take it back to stock before being able to drive it on the road again... Count yourself lucky. And yes, I don't mind if I break anything. I have two spare rear shafts sitting in the shed ready for the trip!

Did all FT4WD's have a center locking diff? How does it lock, as in what is the mechanism driven by?

Feels like axles are binding in 4WD
Phizinza replied to Anthenium's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'm in South Australia.. In a smallish town a few km south of adelaide. Its a great place.. nice and quite, but still all the things you need within a few km's... I don't know if its just me, but when I use 4WD on any surface it makes the whole car stiffer feeling. It turns way better (go around a corner at 130km/h vs FWD at 90km/h with the same feel tothe car. It is also good on dirt when you get it sideways, or if you under steer, just point straight and put your foot to the floor and she always comes out good (well not always, last time I tried it before welding the diff I ended up going straight into the bank of dirt on the edge of the corner, but it was still fun.) Sorry if my sentances sound confusing and my spelling is bad, but it's 12:30AM... time for bed. Good night to all the subies and subie owners around the world. I'll go now before I sound like a crazy person, too late.
