so I traveled an hour and a half to buy a mint 96 legacy front bumper plus grill and both head lights for $100..great deal I end up finding out that this guy is a sub tech So I ask him (among other things) about the P0420 and if many times the O2 sensor is the real culprit He says no The proof he says is that at the dealership he works at...they will replace the cat and REUSE the original O2 sensor....and no more code tripping It actually shocked me that a dealer would not go for the extra bucks and sell the O2 sensor to the sucker (I mean "customer" of course...LOL) so this seems strange to what I have read hear with the experiences of others thoughts?

checked the 4 wire cnnector feeding the disty key on--got zero voltage from 2 of the wires and got like .6 from the other 2 I sold my 92 so now I have nothing to compare this to can anyone out ther check theirs and tell me what they get? -
What the hell did they do with it on a 2006/07 Forester??? Its my moms car and its not where mine is near strut tower....what the heck did subaru do with it??? Also...I was checking her auto tranny fluid and it is like clear in color without much odor...whats up with that and what kind of fluid is it?

1--there are 2 trap doors on the fuel tank...pass side is oval dr side round--whats the diff? 2--under the radio there is some kind of air bag control module--is it worth much of anything? It has funky torx type bolts with a center pin--are wrenches readily available for this--what are they called? 3--How to take off steering wheel? I see two of those funky head bolts recessed in both sides of the steering wheel casing...? 4---BTW---could an air bag go iff without a battery in the car??? 5--I would like to save the ign switch---how the heck does that come off?? thanks guys!

thanks John do you know which wires? I believe there is a green white black and red should Iput the DMM on two of the leads to look for 12v or one lead and the other to ground? thanks!! -
Nip can you detail what exactly what I would do to test it? Am i to touch the positive and negative poles? what should be the reading? why analog (I only have digital) there is no condensor that i know of...there is something attached to the coilbracket...but the coil works fine (with the condensor thing attached) when tested in another car i didnt get your point about junk yard parts

ok...spent a little time on it today I went to a junker I have in the yard..87 GL Took out the disty...(left it wired up)...turned key on. When I rotate the disty sharft, I ger a sparl=k out of the coil wire (I was sending the spark to a metal object So I go to the 93 problem car and do the same with the existing disty...no spark Took another disty ...wired it in and grounded it....still no spark now what? good coil swapped ecm's why isn't there a pulse to create the spark? -

*********** There is something mounted on the coil bracket--not sure what it is called--but the coil and thingy work fine as I put it in the 92 and she fired up ** He is a thought from Johmn on the old board...seems to make sense...what do you guys think? We know the coil and "power amplifier" mounted on the coil bracket is good because all of it worked in your other car. IGN switch is good becaused you tested it. Fuses/fusible links also good. 12 volts directly to the coil didn't work. The voltage to the has to be broken for the coil to generate a spark. I think this occurs on the negative side of the coil (ground side is interrupted). The distributor has a photo optic whatever internal called the CAS.. Light shines through 360 slots in a plate. Somehow the ECU uses this. That's about all I know about the distributor. I believe you mentioned you have an extra distributor. Unplug the distributor in your other car and plug in the extra. Place key in the run position and turn the distributor by hand. If the coil produces a spark you know that distributor is good. Do the same test in the car that doesn't run. If a spark is generator either the distributor in the car is bad or there is a break somewhere in the wiring. The ECU has been swapped so it is probably good. You could always test it in the running car. The only problem is I JUST sold my 92 2 days ago....I have some older distys...maybe I could try it with them

96 with OBD-1?
bgambino replied to eppoh's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX
Take a look at this pic of my 96 legacy If you have this little trap door on the dash and the outlet behind it, it is OBDII This is to the left of the steering column about knee high -
*********** Hey Joel No question about it, their prices are sky high...a drive belt for $115???? What parts did they replace on the brakes? Your mom should never have moved...I would have done the work for her Say the word and I'll fly out and take the thing off her hands! Wish she never moved:banghead: Tell her to postpone her next vacation for a little and get that toyota she wanted

In my 20 years driving awd soobs, I have never had dedicated snows...and here in SE NY state we get our share of snow, ice and slush. And it ain't flat here either I have never had any issue (ok....wet ice going up my inclined driveway...she could not do that--but nothing could...it's like grease) Because of the great performance, I always pride myself on never rushing out of work when it is a blizzard out---coworkers are all freaking out and leaving......hmmm, maybe it's not pride...that's called stupid...LOL On the other hand, I am actively looking for some used steel rims so as to put dedicated snows on...I just want to be an animal ....I don't think it is necessary tho
