First off do you think i have the ability to rebuild (head gaskets and a bottom end) subaru engine? I work on cars all the time i do timing belts, head gaskets, clutches, suspension, brakes, i convereted my SVX to a manule, but i never split a subie case? Ive helped rebuild a couple of chvey 350s, and pontiac 400, but never have realy dug into a subie. Second question, what specific tools are required, i have a engine lift, and engine stand, but specificley for the ej22 is required. Third question is how much do you think it will cost, for the gasket set, and some new piston rings, bottom end bearings, and bolts? The engine was never really over heated, but it went about 8/10s the way up on the temp once. Thanks

I think the B9 is a great idae to expnad subarus line up so, you can aculey buy a subaru with some room in it. "this car blows monkey poo... its subaru's attempt at the xuv... so basicly what they mean by that is make a taller minivan that has no sliding doors... thats what it is!!! you can't even buy it in a standard trans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" by Zefy Frankley thats what all subarus suvs are, the outback is based off the legacy with basicley jsut some diffrent springs and struts, the forester off the impreza with a diffrent body and springs and struts, the b9 is just another car like lifted like other sube vehicles i see nothing wrong with that becasue the new forester and out back aculley have decent off road abilities at least msore than 99.9% of the owners will need. Also GM cant do what ever they wnat with subaru they only own 20%, subaru gave saab the ability to buy WRXs with diffrent parts. Iam sure that GM had a part in it since they own saab but if subaru dident want to do it they wouldent of. All ther doing is tring to earn more money.

I don't have the link, but a guy on nasioc did it to a 93 impreza and he said it was the biggest pain in the rump roast to do the wiring that he could of imagined. Then again he was making a obo2 engine run on obo2 wiring.

For modifications i would just get a 3 inch complete exhaust, a new uppipe with out a cat, and have a good tune preformed to the engine. That would probley give you another 30-50 horse, and but loads of torq. If you want to go further than that a light weight pullie and a good cold air intake(one that dosent suck in engine air, and has a good filter) i heard has given the STI another 15 horse at the wheels, or else you could just swap over STI parts turbo inner cooler, and injectors and then you would be able to get around 350 horse at the engine and around 380 ft pounds of torq. I would also add a trannie cooler if you plan on using the power alot if yours is a auto, and add some better brake pads to stop you. http://www.cobbtuning.com cobb has very high quality parts, but they charge alot.

I would check the hose clamps on the hoses for the intercooler system, ive heard of many STis were subaru did not tighten down a hose clamp and a hose be came lose. Ive also heard that the ECU can go into safe mode and run extremely low boost levels due to bad fuel and you have to reset your ecu, I would also try that, to see if that fixes it (disconect your battery for around 1 hour). This is not normal i would take it to a diffrent dealer, if you dont want to deal with it (its a new car they should fix it), or this dosent fix it.

I definitly would be caring some extra fuel with me in case the car got stuck or something. What about some winch or a come along (if thees anything to hook it to) in case the car gets stuck, so you may be able to get it out. Get some good wiper fluid, and wind whind shield wipers, it would suck to not to be able to see. Which trannie would be better out there, i like the auto AWD drive system better, but how would the trannie fuid fare, compared to the manule in that cold of weather?

This is not an easy swap, there is alot, alot, alot of wiring thats needs to be done. I ve heard of people spending over a hundred hours on the wiring alone, for swaping a WRX engine into a older sube. If i were you i would go with the 2.5 liter turbo engine becasue its a stronger engine compared to the U.S. WRX, and it has alot more low end torq.

There worth more than a normal legacy to some, but less to others due to relibility (not thats its unrelible, its jsut that basilcy any turbo car will genrally have brittle hoses, and some weird parts that will need to be replaced becasue of the turbo, when it gets older), but i would say you could get a good condtion 120,000 mile one for around $3000 if you looked around.

Flights to europe are cheap now, send one D/R people over and pick them up and bring them back on the plane as carry on :-p , no one will care. I always kindn of wanted to do this, to a impreza or something, but have no funds. But you would want to get a 20KG STi center diff to make it work denctly formore serious offroading. Dont most sube trannies have like a 2Kg center diff stock on the 5spds?

I think it does vary alot between turbo cars if MBCs work well. Some cars read boost diffrently and try to control it difrently, and some MBCs are alot better than others, which both can contribute to boost spikes. For tha amount of boost i cant say some engines cant handle 10 PSI stock and others can handle 30 PSi so i cant say becasue i know nothing about that motor, only that toyota genrally over builds turbo cars, maybe excpet in the shead gaskaket area. And maybe i heard that the 90 ish MR2s seconde, to the newest gen have basilcy a 2gzegte with 2 less cylinders, and those engines are way over built.

You can over whelm the VC cneter diff on any car that i no of its just not that easy, and on subes there pretty strong, but you can stil have kind of one wheel drive, the other wheel will get power just not engough to spin it or move the car. The 4eat auto on the other hand can basicly lock the wheels togher like a clutch i think, and that is really hard to get one wheel spining, never have.
