When we go on a trip with the 92 5spd AWD we average around 28-29 miles per gallon at around a average of 80MPH. The best milage my dad and i ever got in any of our soobs was in my SVX 31 miles per gallon with a average speed of 80 plus with the ocasional 110 mph pass. That was huge surprise for me.

This happened a while ago and i finaly have time to maybe fix it, my parents legacys, 92,91 both seem to have the smae problem, the ABS box right next to the intake on the engine/fender wall wont shut off. I noticed this first on my moms 91, i drove it and turned it off then i still heard a buzzing sound so i poped the hood and tracked it down to the ABS box. I then put the key in the ignition turned it on and off again no diffrence, i then left it alone for probley 2 hours came back and it was still buzing so i disconcected it. This same thing happened to my dads 92, any ideas? Thanks

I converted my SVX to a stick for $1000 U.S., and that included a $300 conversion kit, and $350 upgraded clutch. For the computer all the SVX people who have done it have simpley just disconected the TCU. There have been some minor problems with low idle in the SVX with the very ocansonal stall. Not sure if that will aply for the Impreza. It was alot of work to do it, but if you work at and know what your doing and have tools it can be done with in 1 week, of pfairly hard work. Thats if every thing some how works out perfectly. Me idid mine in a drive way during the middle of winter(lots of fun to work when there was snow on the ground ) I really dont think it would be as hard or as costly, becasue you wont need to get costom parts or upgraded clutch, or make costom braces. The hardest part was probley for me getting the auto off with out killing me in the proccess, or the pedal assembley. I dont know if you would want a WRX trannie since they have higher gearing than the rest of the 5spds. If you do it, it would be horibley expensive if you would have to buy all of the small stuff from subaru, so you will nedd to probley find a junkyard one. Alos all ej tranies will fit onto a EJ, or EG engine.

From alitle experiance off roading a newer gen, approch and departure angles were what were really holding me back when i was offroading a 90 legacy. It would be nice to get another couple inches of ground clearnce, got high center a couple times, but i ended up using the front end of the lgacy like a shovel many more times, it took away alot of momentume, and it dident fell that good to bouncing around that much. Also suspension trravel wasent that great, i would try maybe try taking off the sway bars for alillte more travel.

I dont think a inner cooler on a NA car like the legacy would be that cost effective. You could always upgrade your ignition ( MSD ) and then you gain some gas milage along with more power. If i wanted to keep the same engine in your car i would get a complete new exhust headers, cat back sytem, upgrade the igntion and get some light weight pulllie and a STi air filter. I would also get STi engine and trannie mounts i heard may times it makes your car fell like it hs gained 15 horse, becasue of the gain how much stiifer the mounts are there is less engine movment, so the engine is more repsonsive and losses less horse power through the drive train. Alos puts less stress on the drivetrain. If i wanted to fell the diffrence i would do every thing at once, spend a weekend installing it so you can acuily fell a farily noticable imporvment in performance. If you only do one thing at a time you probley wont really be able to notice a gain.

Well it turnes out that my dad did intend for the timing and every thing else to be changed, but the guy wanted $400 just in parts for every thing, and sence the car only had about 30,000 on the timing belt job my dad said to leave it alone, and only do the idler pullie. I really dont mind to any part of the job, but the cam seal, do you think i could skip them sence there not leaking?
-
Iam doing a timing belt on a 91 legacy becasue the crank seal started to leak. I first thought that i hadent done a timing belt on this car for around 100,000 miles so i was going to replace ever thing, water pump, carnk seal, timing belt, thermostat, ect. Now i rember that about 1 year ( 20,000 miles) ago my parants took it to have a idler pullie replaced and they changed ever thing. Do you think i should go along and change it all even tho it only has around 20,000 miles on every thing. Right now i am about to take off the crank bolt and have inspected the timing belt and i see no cracks at all. The cam seals dont seem to be leaking any oil at all either. I already have all the parts. Even if i end up changing most things shold i change the cam seal, there not leaking at all and getting the cam gear off is the biggest pain of all. What do you think?

Your not spose to spin your tiers becasue it would put to much stress on the trannie. Subaru desinged the clutch to be the first thing that should let go first so you dont spend money buying a new trannie every time you drop the clutch. AWD puts a huge amount of extra stress on tranies, ecpecialy when lanching hard. You cant adjust your clutch to grab harder, unless its not properly set up already.
