  1. well never bothered to pull the motor out but when i started it earlier today to see where its leaking, i now see its the drivers side head gasket, i think im just gonna say im done with this car and put it up for sale!! i got too much else going on right now to keep messing with this thing
  2. the thing i cant figure out is when i compare how heavy duty 1 suspension setup is compared to the other they look just as heavy duty for the most part. zyewdall are you going to try to keep the subaru running gear in it or swap out the vw gear into it??? if i had done the benz motor i was planning on putting the motor tranny, and complete rearend into the sooby
  3. lol should have known curiousity would get the best of someone, i was thinking about putting the motor tranny and rearend in from my benz, i got the benz driveable but it has a bunch of rust through spots and the front unibody is bent from accident damage, guess im going to have to look for a heavier duty car to put my running gear in
  4. well nevermind on answering this question, mods can go ahead and delete this is they like, after more reasearch i dont think the front end of the roo could handle the 850 lb cast iron engine i was debating on putting in it, even if i built a subframe for it, i think it would buckle it.
  5. ok took a look at my sooby earlier and seen that the front end GVW is i believe 1750 or so, now im am curious, i read while searching that a ea82 motor is approximately 200 lbs give or take, now what im wanting to know is what is the aproximate weight of the front end minus the engine and tranny?
  6. i can email them to you if you like, i deleted them from my photo hosting site to make room for other stuff,
  7. hmm thats interesting to know numbchux, im wondering if my bushings in the front, are a little too tight or something, when i was putting in my extenders, even with the axle and shock unbolted it wouldnt go down that far, even with stepping on it!! anyhow back on subject i forgot to mention the link q-man gave is an exellent post to give you all the basic ideas about doing a lift.
  8. scrap the other part of the reason im just probably gonna pull it is because there are some other things i wanna do to it anyways, among other things ive had a persistant oil leak somewheres on the bottom of the motor that ive been wanting to fix,and thanks for the compliment, as for how it handles on the street i could tell you now, since the only few times i took it out were when i first swapped the tires and whatnot on, and found out i had bad bearings and balljoints, thing wobbled real bad, i swapped on the good parts from my parts car pile, and hadnt had a chance to take it on the road again, but i can definetally say its like a dog on these country mountian roads i live on, ide have to keep it in 3rd at 55 just to keep it going good, i think i paid 50 for my set of rims, but had to get the tires elsewhere, gotta love used tire places around here!!
  9. well just friggen peachy, i finally get the sooby where im more happy with it and apparently yesterday when i was wheeling i managed to break something, now its pouring coolant from somewheres on bottom of the engine, and its not coming from the head gaskets so i guess ill have to get the #%## motor pulled out and see what is wrong with this thing now!!!!!
  10. hey numbchux you have your differential dropped 2 inches though dont you, basically the way im figuring it is you may have the rear 4 inches higher but since you dropped the rear dif down then running gear wise you only have a technical 2 inch lift(i am probably making no sense the way im describeing this.) on mine the differential was not touched, though just thinking about it i probably got 3 inches on mine since my extender is 2 inches and i got my adjustables all the way up so that gives me about another inch or so. mine might be more limited because of the difference in between the dif and the wheels themselves lucifer i could be wrong but i believe on teh 10 inch lift they are probably running a divorced t-case
  11. when mine blew i was able to crawl underneath and get my fingers through the timing covers just enough to feel that 1 of the belts was broken
  12. i dont think it would be possible to get much more than a 2 inch suspension lift, i have strictly a 2 inch suspension lift in the rear and my downward travel is about at its maximum, just remember on a subaru you dont have a seperate differential in the front so you you have to make sure to drop that enough to get the right axle angles.
  13. hey tin soldier, fuel still? are you meaning a biodiesel processor???? im actually going the next route on the veggie conversion, im almost done building my system on my benz and will be using diesel for startup only and switching to straight veggie oil after it reaches the right temp. ive already got over 100 gallons of used veggie sitting around here waiting for me to get this thing done. to bad i dont really understand the internals of engines a whole lot, it would be nice to just convert a sooby ea82 over to run on diesel but i dont think it could handle the larger compression ratio of 21:1 like my benz has(not that i would even have a clue as to how to do that)!!lol
  14. scrap487 do you have any places around that sell new and used rims, the place i got mine at mainly sells new rims but he has alot of trade-in rims mostly alot of stock stuff, but even some aftermarket stuff, i just happened to go with these since they looked pretty easy to drill out, and appeared to have a decent offset, although i could use a little more offset in the front since it will rub a little while hitting a dip while turning on the inner part of the engine bay. subie 94, thanks man, i know its not near as nice as alot of the fully lifted roos but it is more than enough to make me happy, and it is plenty tough enough to handle any abuse i put it through, and believe me i beat the hell outta this offroad, have almost flipped it a few times now.
  15. i gotta say looking at that pic though even if it is just an advertisement thing if the wagon wheelbase is close to a brat wheelbase then that avalanche frame will be way to long. basically im wanting rid of my sooby engine and wanting a diesel in it so i can convert that to SVO like my benz, and the sooby diesel motor seems to be not much more than a myth
  16. i had to drill out 2 holes to make them fit, they are 6 lug rims orininally, and im not sure why you cant really see the holes there since i didnt fill them in or anything, maybe between the fact that i painted the rims after i put them on and being dirty it kinda hides the holes or something. and hopefully the ideas help, i try to post up stuff i do to help other ppl do stuff cheaper, all put together i got about $85 into getting my roo looking like this and most of it was rims and tires, other than that, i just had to buy a metal cutting skillsaw blade to do the cutting stuff. and a cpl bolts
  17. thanks guys, the wheels are from an 80's izuzu trooper(from what i was told) drilled out to the sooby pattern ,for the lifting its actually completely stock stuff, i got the adjustable suspension on it and got the front adjusted up all the way and a little homemade setup to extend the rear coilovers, theres a pic of that below. and in case anyone is wondering where the bumper is its going on my blue benz you see next to the sooby, since i cant fix the bent up 1 that was on it, and im planning on doing a simple tube bumper on the roo, nothing special since the roo isnt really driven on the streets anymore.
  18. finally decided the other day to get around to trimming up my fenders enough to keep my tires from rubbing, now im able to have more fun since i dont have to hear the tires rubbing!!!lol and a cpl in general pics of the roo, i gotta have the wife snap some pics while im out in the yard playing around with it.
  19. i didnt know they even made it in a diesel either till i was told about this 1, . i know some truck frames could fit better just dont really have a clue as to how close the wheelbase would even be.like i know that a 80's nissan extended cab frame will fit almost perfectly under a early 80's MB 300 model wagon
  20. wasnt sure what section to put this in but i figured here would work, i got some one i know with a 2005 chevy avalanche diesel truck with less than 10k miles on it they are selling for $1000 because it is totaled out by their insurance so it has a branded title, all the running gear stuff is in great shape on it from what im told butmy question is would a 85 ea82 wagon body fit on that frame(if there even is a frame)? basically it isnt worth it to me to fix it because among other things those things are friggen ugly but i would be very interested to try this swap if it is possible, does anybody know if the wheelbase is the same or close for these 2 vehicles??
  21. mines at 0 and holding for the last 3k miles, it gets up to 2 psi if i rev the engine when its cold!!!!!lol
  22. man seeing that definetally makes me miss the snow sometimes, it is the rainy season here in the winter, only good part is there is pretty much constantly mud to play in
  23. i would say that probably any 4.3 motored gm would probably have the same alt but i could be wrong on that, mine was from a 4.3 astro
  24. it is a stock standard replacement on a 89 chevy astrovan, if you go to an auto parts place ask for that and say with a/c and all the other options, or maybe somebody can give a model # seeing the picture below 1. is the stock upper mounting point 2.is the mounting tab on the alternator 3.is the new tensioner bolt spot 4.is the timing belt tensioner used as a spacer(i did have to drill off the pully piece that was on it) and this 1 is just an overall pic of it
