So i took disty cap of to see if it was wet. It was but thats not my Question .Noticed that there was gray metalic like coating on inside of cap it wiped out easy but what was this caused by? Oil pressure guage learns a new trick!
wintersubaru replied to Mykeys Toy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
WOW you got that much pressure your lucky!!! First make sure your oil pump didnt go south and if it's ok check the wire on the sending unit if it's ok then try to test the gauge its self. It may be a bad sending unit. Are all your other gauges ok? -
First make sure you have the correct cap and rotor because there are a few threads here that deal with all the different caps and rotors that go on these cars.

do you know where in bath that is? looked in phone book couldnt find it. -
Bite the bullit and buy new. I bought a set of tires from a fle market looked really good nice tread good side walls and all for 40 bucks thought i got a great deal. Then had to shell out 30 for mount and balance, Just to find out one had small hole in side wall and allso dry rot. Patched the hole but still have the dry rot but cant afford to replace them now. Then i found out the same tire at pep boys mounted and balenced was on sale for 100 $ plus tax! Man was i peod . So look around you can get realy good deals on cheap snow or all season tires and if you wan't to spend the extra doe get blizzaks. I have found out even with rain tires in 4 wheel drive i could go as good are better then all front or rear wheel drive cars. I still prefer snow tires thou.

Bought engine from recyle yard out of car that sat for two or three years owners didn't think it ran so i got it cheap (98.000) put it in turned by hand then starter then hooked coil up and it started on second turn. I have done this with other cars(non sube) and took hours to get them started. I love these storys of engine that sat and fire right up.

My red 90 4wd wgn no rust
wintersubaru replied to pkennedybluewrx's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Allso depends on the buyer. Not to long ago here in P.A. I saw a 89 that was rusted real bad so i stopped to see if i could get it cheap for parts. The guy ask me what i was willing to pay (89.000 miles ) Told him 50 to 100 $. He laughed and said he would patch it up and sell it for over a grand. I laughed and told him good luck( This thing had holes in it the size of softballs). About a month later i met some lady from N.Y.C that was driving it and ask her what she paid?( car was bondoed to death) She told me 1500$. Then i told her about how it was patched up and probally wouldnt last another winter here in P.A. She couldnt belive she got ripped off like that and left mad. So moral of the story is a car is worth what ever someone is willing to pay for it! -

Heater Problem
wintersubaru replied to SyntheticBlinkerFluid's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Allso when you hit the button you should hear kinda the sound of air moving. Like a swoosh sound. If you dont hear that then most likely its vacuum problem. If you do hear that clean out the mouse, The nest could be holding the controls from moving. -
should i or should i not
wintersubaru replied to Buddy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Just do what i did when everyone rags on my sube! Show them what it will do! challange someone to a contest. Like the guy where i get gas he has an 85 camero with over 400 horeses but cant get out off his parking lot with rain on the ground with out going throu snow.He allso has a 2001 jimmy that is one of the biggest piles of american steal ever to hit the road.He was allways bragging how good of a truck it is so i told him lets go hit the power lines and see who comes out the other side first. So we did, he got me off the line ofcourse but after we got rolling he had to slow down to much around corners and over some obstacles. Thats when i passed him and didnt see him untill an hour later when he came walking out of the woods and told me he broke his truck. so i gave him a ride back to hi junk and seen he broke his rear driveshaft. Took him to get parts to fix when it started snowing.By the time we got done there was like six inches of snow and he kept getting stuck because he was afraid to give it power because he was afraid he would break his truck again. So i had to pull him allmost 2 miles to the main road. After that he never raged on my sube again, In fact he allways want to use it to go off road so i told him to get his own sube. HE DID! -
Old Subaru's Are EVIL!
wintersubaru replied to cutie-ru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
My 86 carbed wagon does the same thing on really cold days. will warm up be fine then when i start driving the temp goes up to 3/4 for a minute then drops back to normal. Maybe thats why everyone says to use oem sube stat! i used two from autozone that did that. -
Air Conditioning Removal..More HP?
wintersubaru replied to Durania's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
No diff in power but you are losing about 15 pounds of extra weight! I got lucky when i bought my junkyard engine, someone removed ac and made a bracket for the alternater that is a lot lighter then stock. -
I have an 86 4x4 wagon 5spd D/R and in the snow in 2wd with good snow tires i just spin and spin it will go but takes a lot of rpms to move.(Of course if i put in 4 she goes like a champ) I know i have 3.90 gears so my question is do 2wd cars have different gears because i seen a lot of folks on here that have 2wd and they say they can go allmost any place a 4wd will go!

Botched Hitachi Carb Rebuild
wintersubaru replied to mercury's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
It looks like you put the plug where the jet should be on the primary.and the jet where that plug belongs. I just looked at a carb i have sitting here and one jet is near primary and other is near secondary. -
Did they check the cat to see If its clogged ?
-
Or if you leak a lot of oil like some of us do the car is self undercoated Just was often to keep salt from sticking !

Does anyone know what jets it would take? Are they the same as weber?
