  1. Adam you know dam well i'm not a Mitsu guy! The problem with head BOLTS is the stretch of the bolt. Nuts won't stretch. Plus you know well enough that when a bolt snaps it either snaps just below the head, or where there is a diameter change (start of the threads)...any physics book will tell you this... With the studs you don't have that problem, and you get consistant torque everytime, and can actually apply more torque. Plus...there's nothing to say then when they make studs they can't use a different pitch, which would allow more threads to bite. Even then...once you get past 5 threads it doesn't much matter if you are using 20 threads, or 5 threads. Think of it this way...you install wheel nuts every day of the week. they go on what? 5 turns?? and get what? 75 ft-lbs or more??
  2. i don't think it's really common to RX's though. We have an '87 XT Turbo which pulls all the way to 8 grand and sounds completely different than anything else we have. Pulls almost as well as the 88 rx. I'm gonna have to say that something is weird though. Seems real odd.
  3. Those things have WILD cams in them. i still say that none of our "stock" race cars pulled as well as our '88 rx!! By stock i mean stock turbo, the only mods being K&N and Open Exhaust. The thing would pull all the way to 8 grand without a problem. The 88 computers are agressive. They will pull/add alot of timing, and will play with the boost alot. You will see that on a really cold day in the winter, they will only pull like 7 PSI, but on a hot day, they will pull like 12 PSI in an effort to keep the power the same no matter the conditions.
  4. Interesting..he was making what...240-250 torque at the crank??
  5. I completely agree with how you treat the tranny is how it's going to treat you. But...there is a point where the gears and shafts and everything inside the tranny cannot physically withstand the torque produced. I suppose certain WJM was making close to the same power/torque levels with his 1.8L motor...and his tranny held up just fine. However, or what it's worth. if it is a relatively easy swap...Shortening the prop shaft is no problem, if the front driveshafts slip on, and just fabbing up a mount...that really is not all that difficult, and might be worth the little bit of extra work. Surely you will spend the same amount of time mucking with that as you would fabricating an adapter plate...so it's probably a toss up
  6. so the EA82T front axles will slide right onto the Ej tranny?? And all that really needs to happen is shorten the prop shaft?? I was thinking that i'd have to replace the front axles and rear driveshaft. If it's not that big of a deal..i'll use the EJ tranny forsure. Especially since the tranny i'll be using is a Legacy Turbo tranny, which has the hardened gear set.
  7. alright...so how much work is it to use the EJ tranny?? i'm guessing driveshafts, and a custom tranny mount. Along with the master cylinder needed for the clutch.
  8. is it going to hold?? I know we all hear of people saying Subaru trannies are like glass. well i'm thinking about putting a JDM EJ20T into my RX for ice racing season. The engine is in a Legacy Turbo, and runs. I'd like to use the RX tranny so i don't have to piss around with tranny mounts and drive shafts. But..is the RX tranny likely to hold 250-260 hp??
  9. depends on how new the front brake pads are. If they are more than 50% worn down the EA81 wheels will fit fine (atleast the wagon wheels). If you have new brake pad in the car, a couple of half inch washers are just enough to space out the wheels.
  10. that's fixable. we've done worse in ice racing. It might not be back to 100%, but definately driveable, and safe.
  11. correct. the BOV/BPV valve placement is best when right next to the Throttle body. leads to much better throttle response
  12. Fair enough. we'll just call this what?? Water to Air Intercooler Evo #1?
  13. looks cool.. Celica Alltrac Intercooler eh?? Seems i've got one of those attached to the car in the driveway. Curious why you mounted it like that. you've got a PILE of intake tubing there. If it was me..put the inlet at the back, and run the outlet straight in and down into the throttle body. The Inlet could then just snake up, around, and into the inlet side of the I/C.
  14. so i was close....STI motor and GT30R !!!someone should spend some time smoothening out that curve though...a litttle laggy also.
  15. Threw an STi on the Dyno, or whatever it was.. judging by your filename..it was using a GT-30 turbo. No way that was your RX. You haven't been that decent in the A/F graph even when you were running 12 PSI.
  16. It's a guy in Seatle who makes them. I'll dig up his email addy, and let him know you guys might be contacting him.
  17. The suspension is custom made Bilstien coil overs. The front strut tubes are made from Chromoly. We use 250lb/in springs in the front, and 200 lb/in spring in the back. In the front we get about 7 inches of travel, and about 6.5 in the rear. You can play around with the spring rates and lengths very easily, as they use standard 2.5" coil over springs. All in all..it runs somewhere about $1750 USD for a full setup. However, for us..it's all worth it
  18. dude. you gota get yourself some suspenders like the ones i'm running these are the fronts compared with stock EA82 stuff and the rears all on this thing
  19. agreed...however 2 smaller injectors is better than one large in this application
  20. problem being is that the SPFI fuel injector is made to flow enough fuel for the EA82 by itself. I think you will find it too large for an extra injector
  21. For the hoodpins. i remove the stock rubber bumper type things, and drill those holes a little larger to insert the pins. Then on the hood you have an exact idea where they go. For the actual "clip" part of it that screws to the hood. I did just that, Used the supplied screws and screwed them right into the hood. Ventilation is a good thing, especially when you are wearing 3 layer nomex and a helmet, and it's almost 30 degrees out. The roofscoop is from a Transport truck. i bought the entire kit for like 30 bucks CDN. I needed to use one that stuck up from the roof about 1.5" as i have a cage bar right there. You can get surface mount ones, but they come into the cabin about 4 inches. It works great, and seems to keep the rain out!
  22. Old School Motorsports competed in the Galway-Cavendish Forest Rally this weekend. We finished 2nd overall, and won our class (P4) here's a couple pictures: http://www.andrewharvey.ca/galleries/2005gcfr/25.htm http://www.andrewharvey.ca/galleries/2005gcfr/30.htm http://www.pbase.com/va3awd/image/48027493
  23. i can't remember which is which. but they are the opposite of "normal injectors"
  24. Andrew does take some Awesome pictures. the car is undergoing some mods right now, including a triple core rad, and some new wheels and tires. We've got a rally on the 20th so we should have some more pictures for you all shortly after that
