ericem replied to roadsubiedog's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXPicked up my 94 legacy turbo for $650 with 190,000km or 110,000miles i think converted. Pretty well rust free, running well, and silver =)

Help! Rust ate my Fuel Filler Neck!
ericem replied to marcia1723's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXDefinitely does! Both my 93 and 94 would have disingrated by now like most other subaru's on my street. It really sucks seeing other older gen legacy's rotting away just because they did not rust proof . I prefer rust check though. Krown works. but they drill like 100000000s of holes I hate that. With rust check here they simple lower the window spray in that area, remove the taillights etc. I think they drill some holes though, but very minimal, and they just put very long attachments to get into areas. I also get a carwash atleast once a week, during the week if I had driven through any salt at all, or snow.

Help! Rust ate my Fuel Filler Neck!
ericem replied to marcia1723's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWhy don't you guys rust proof your cars? Atleast get the underbody sprayed in important area's, SUCH as where the fuel filter tube and all is!

top off power steering?
ericem replied to greenleg88's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXLook around for pump particularly and under the car around the PS lines and the rack itself. You could have a torn boot.

IAC cleaning procedure wanted
ericem replied to davebugs's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXOn the 2.2L i have I know it connects to the intake not directly to the airbox, the hose is like a couple feet long and yes it does die when you remove it. You can do either way, with the engine on, just hold the throttle via the throttle body, or off and just fill up the hose.

98 Legacy: Cooling system problems
ericem replied to etc's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI would think possibly a stuck thermostat and or as mentioned just air needs to be burped out of the system. Could also be the rad cap as well.

IAC cleaning procedure wanted
ericem replied to davebugs's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThere is a hose going to the unit. Just spray some IAC, carb cleaner, throttle body cleaner w/e cleaner in there and hold the throttle open when you do this, it should definitely help. Do you know where your IAC is? What year and model is your car btw?

98 Legacy: How to replace the leaking crankshaft seal
ericem replied to etc's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXJust make sure the pump is OEM. I would just get that kit, and get the water pump, and gaskets at the dealer.

ericem replied to njdrsubaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXRebleed your brakes jesus you guys get so repetitive in your replies...... My car did the exact same thing turned out it was because I did not bleed the brakes properly. Also same code just the long blinks....

Front end question
ericem replied to mdjdc's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI have a similar problem. Steering wheels shakes on the throttle Guess I need a new axle period. I was hoping it was just my crappy buldging tires.

ABS is acting up...
ericem replied to njdrsubaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXProbably need to rebleed the brakes, and you need to do it per proper sequence.

07 sti jerkin at accel and battery issues
ericem replied to jizzy's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXMaybe the ECU needed to be reset? When you unplugged the battery probably fixed it.

1990 Legacy AT ft differential failure
ericem replied to amuller's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXstick to a 90-91 n/a trans. The gear ratio needs to be the same. I would fix it, grab a good used trans and don't worry about it. Really weird the diff went. These cars have very well built drivetrains.

3.6 and a CVT in the Leg???!!!
ericem replied to LosDiosDeVerde86's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXya your probably right nipper. Although I know the forester has a light that comes on. When the engine is cool it is blue, then I guess it turns off when at a good operating temperature, and goes red when it is overheating.

07 sti jerkin at accel and battery issues
ericem replied to jizzy's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXJust put back the OEM filter or intake if the intake was replaced and remove the mass air flow sensor and spray it with electronic contact cleaner. See how it drives after that.

Radiator Road Tripped
ericem replied to 11pies's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXi would suggest you clean up the engine bay nicely and look for leaks particularly on the bottom if it is the water pump. Did you get a oem cap btw ? If it is the water pump it can really start leaking fast on a long trip all of a sudden but i wouldnt worry about the car stalling if you notice it overheating a bit it would be a good time to top it up . Or every like 500 miles wait for the system to cool down and depressuseize and pull the cap. I would still strongly suggest you locate the leak and look at the bottom of the motor looking near the driver side of the motor near the timing covers for a leak.

Another Timing belt question...

Another Timing belt question...
ericem replied to simbey1982's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXGot my kit from the same guys. Everything looked great. All I suggest is you use your original bolts for the idlers and torque everything down according to spec while your in there. Timing belt FSM here http://www.main.experiencetherave.com/subaru_manual_scans/FSM_Scans/

If Only I Could...
ericem replied to Bubs360's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIf it gets stolen will suck having nothing lol. The difference was only $20-30 a year? They go by book value if it gets stolen so around $2g's. I figure even if it gets vandalized w/e the insurance is there.

If Only I Could...
ericem replied to Bubs360's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYa honestly I really wanted a newer impreza but insurance was INSANE. I instead got me a 94 legacy turbo low mileage for $650. Insurance for me as a primary is around $270 a month and I am near the city with liability, comprehensive theft etc, just no collision. My dad even agreed it would have been a great waste of money even for him without me driving the car, no point wasting $500+ on insurance. I am totally satisfied with my car and it is still turbo, awd, and looks pretty good IMO Look for a nice used Legacy, will be alot cheaper to insure. Funniest part was finding out it is like $1500 cheaper to insure the 94 legacy turbo over my moms 93 legacy wagon NON turbo.

2004 recurrent a/c problem
ericem replied to hillivie's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI had good luck using over the counter stop leak products and there freon. It is a good idea to cycle the A/C to keep seals lubed as well. Probably needs a new compressor though. Most likely it just leaks when it is very cold.
