Anyone know a dealer/supplier that has good prices/service for KYB struts for a 97 Legacy Outback. I can't seem to get the dealers on EBAY to return my e-mails regarding availability since it seems this is the only model they don't list for sale. So far the best price I got is about $320 for all 4 shipped to me.

You can try posting over here as well for someone that can do the work for you. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/ If everything else is good with the car I would install a JDM engine instead of buying a new car if you are just starting your job....at least down the line you have a trade or a running car to sell.

$1100 installed is a good price. I paid $900 delivered for my JDM 2.5 DOHC and installed it myself. I changed the HG's since it was out with the new style and swapped some of the newer parts I had from my old engine like the tensioners, timing belt and in she went. She runs like new again. If yours is a DOHC I would strongly suggest they replace the HG's before the install, it's peace of mind that you solved the HG issue that these motors can have. You can also try an locate some Subaru owners in your area that would also do the swap for you for a little less.

Can you explain a little better what you are trying to do. From what I gather it's put a 2.2 non-EGR into your 98 Outback right? Drilling and tapping for the EGR was pretty easy, you just have to take your time and have the right tap...I have the tap if you want to buy it for half what it costs since I doubt I'll ever use it again, or have a local machine shop do it for you.

Drilling and tapping the head wasn't that hard, just make sure the drill is straight(helps to have two people viewing two planes of the drill or a drill press) and know how far you have to drill for the threads. Drilling depth for the threads is important since the EGR pipe must seat inside the hole at the bottom, then drill a thinner hole the rest of the way. It really helps to have a head that has an EGR hole already for reference.

$600 for the engine, $300 for the shipping. Yes it was a JDM engine, I replaced the head gaskets, timing belt and some other small stuff before I installed it. I swapped my intake onto the JDM engine with no problems, I did have to drill/tap the head for the EGR tube though. This just took some patience. I am on my first tank of gas since the install so not sure on the mileage yet.

97 Outback, 2.5 DOHC 170,000 miles on intake, JDM replacement engine that I just put in...now I have a P1507 code. I have read the write up on another board for later model engine but anyone have good luck cleaning one on this engine? The gasket is paper not not rubber as well. The valve is getting power and I removed it while the engine was hot and checked and see the valve is still open so I think it just got gummed up since it was fine on the old engine(bad HG). I also checked the resistance between the terminals and I get 10.1 ohms between them, the book says it should be 9 ohms but I suppose this is still fine. Hope this is as simple as soaking the IAC in some gas. Anyone removed the two top screws?

Subie how thick was the spacer you needed? Strakes which Kenwoods did you buy, what are you driving them with. -
The JDM engine that I bought has a dent in the pan(looks like when shipped) so I plan on using the old one which has some surface rust on it after 9 years/170K miles...figured since it's out why not clean/paint it so I never have problems there. Not sure if I have ever seen etching hI-Temp primer, I'll have to stop by the auto store on the way home tonight.
