Headlight oddity & "Why I Love Subaru's!"

Mom's 93 escort does the opposite. Chimes all the time with door open. Key or no key. juggle the lock and sometimes the chime will quit. -

Not sure who your question was directed at, but I'd like to know if I can run the headlights without running the engine. -
Yes, please!!

I have old photos when it was flat black, but most are to big for the boards size posting limitations (too many bytes). If someone can give me a crash course in how to re-size them, I'd love to post them up! Somewhere on the old board, pics of the midwest gathering were posted, and there were some good shots of it in her current camo paint. Perhaps the owner of those photos could re post them for me? (don't remember who took them...McBrat? Tim? Shawn? )

So glad this thread came up. When the lights went off with the ignition on my '84 Brat, I thought I had some wierd electrical gremlin. There are lots of times I like to have the headlights on for outdoor illumination, without having the car running though. According to the previous posts, there is a switch to activate the marker lights on some models, but is there a way to have the lights on with the motor off if I so desire? (or is that what KC lights are for?) -
I'm also a big fan of flat black. Nearly half the vehicles I have owned have gotten sprayed in it. Flat black is nearly impossible to keep looking good, like it does after it's newly painted. However, IMO, the patina it takes on after use/abuse is attractive in it's own right. Like Olive Drab, it almost looks better the worse it gets. Currently, my soob is camo'd and it is holding up very well. Dirt and scratches get lost in the field. Also a somewhat less than professional spray job looks much better in a flat color. Ie; you can make a few mistakes, and get away with it. Luckily, the grey interior will go well with most any color choice.

Always liked a dark Gunmetal grey metallic. Perhaps a Forrest Green? Dark colors are high maintaince, though Ie; they show dirt & scratches. If this a trail rig, you might consider a line-x type bedliner paint job. comes in many colors, but is much pricier than paint. My .02

Anyone Running 13" Kuhmo ECSTA R700s?
eyesore replied to Dante's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'd say go for 'em! I looked at those, but my budget wouldn't allow it. Got these instead....$33 a tire: http://www.tirerack.com/images/tires/firestone/fs_winterforce_ci2_l.jpg For the price, I am very happy with them, but my next tire purchase will definately be those Kumhos. -
8 hours labor was the quote I got.

anybody got a hood scoop?

Grab yourself an old mailbox, that's what I did! 'course, you may be looking for something a little more asthetically pleasing..... -
Only real drawback is the added weight. Covering the whole car starts getting a bit heavy, otherwise, works great! My buddy has his 79 Bronco covered, and it really prevents minor trail rash.

Have that same shifter in my '78 wagon. You'll love it, feels great!! (as for the button, I just pretend it fires the .50cals in the grille.)

ReMax....I think. It was once blue and red.....I didn't inspect it too closely.
-
Actually......I left the plastic realitor sign in, as a bottom/base for the foam. then sealed it from the outside too. Just finished cutting / sanding off the excess that oozed out, and painted to match car......not too bad.
-
Unfortunately, not in this case. Any / all configurations netted the same result: someone in the backseat with a shopvac full of dust on full reverse. Rolling down all 4 windows, and opening the vents worked best, but that got old. Haven't tested the car yet...hope this fixed it...

When you get to Denver, check out S-Wings. Just south and east of the Santa Fe / Mississippi intersection. It's a Super Subie warehouse! If you need it, chances are they have it.

I should have, I am that poor! :boohoo: But any $100 dollar bills in those pockets are staying there. Those jeans were nasty

Between the rusted right front wheelwell, and the two rear ones, I now have 5 cans of foam in Eyesore. Stuff works great! Doesn't do squat to stop more rust, but I'd have to spend way more $ cutting and patching and Por-15ing than the old girl will ever be worth. Oh, well. She still runs like a top!

So, in an effort to locate the source of the huge amounts of dust that come billowing in the rear of the car every time I run a gravel road, I took off the plastic wheel well panels, thinking the open areas in the body panels were the source. My rear quarters behind the wheels are rusted out, and all that dust comes right up into the body, through the access holes, and out from behind the plastic panels sure enough. But the surprise...some previous owner tried to fix the problem by inserting into the hole: 1: plastic realitor's sign, 1: (allmost ) empty bag of potting soil, and topping it all off...1: pair of old denim jeans. Surprise!! I filled the hole with insulating expand-o foam, and duct-taped off all the access pannels before replacing the plastic covers. Hopefully, this will cure my dust problem. The good news is, after pulling up the rear carpet, the floor is in pristine condition without a hint of rust. Wheelwells too.

Just 'cause I want them, doesn't mean I can afford them. I'm just picturing my 78 wagon with these things on, and oooh, chills.

Have submitted a price request. normal truck sets run around $20k !!! Hopefully the ATV applications are a little more reasonable.
-
Ok, so the(older 4 bolt) subs use a 4x140 bolt pattern, same as many ATV's, right? so how about a set of these for your soobie? Especially gen1 sub's where good 13' tires are non existant: http://www.litefootatv.com/index.htm I so want a set of these. What do you all think?

That's the idea here, to get some pre-pre gathering info together. Sometime in the spring? Just hoping to drum up intrest well in advance so that, hopefully, we can get a good turnout.
