  1. Easiest/ cheapest way is to go with 14" or 15" Peugeot (Pug) wheels and some decent rubber. Some fender trimming may be required, but it doesn't sound like that's an issue. Be aware though, that the increased diameter will throw your ratios off a bit. (more top end on the freeway, less low end grunt)
  2. Either is OK, but I prefer the idea of eating indoors as a group. Especially, as Shawn said, if it's rainy/overcast.
  3. Will be coming Sat. morning, down 141, then zig-zaging across rural 2 lanes. I, at least, know where I'm going. BUT, where are we meeting up at? Is there going to be a designated rendezvous(sp) point? I'll have Motorola 2-ways, but can't afford to buy a CB.
  4. Sorry for the delayed response..... I'm so darn close, I'll just head back home Sat. night. If it looks like a lot of people are going to be around still on Sun, I'll come back up. I'm only an hour and a half or so away.....
  5. The crew just left my place en route to McBrat's. They should arrive there in an hour or so. Everybody is feeling a lot better, rested & showered. They should be home late tonight. Good Luck, guys. It was great having you!
  6. They're here!! safe & sound. Currently unpacking the cars a bit to do some light wheelin. Will post again in a bit.....
  7. Subiemech, empty your mailbox so I can PM you. (no news yet)
  8. Like subiemech said..... On their way here. I'll update you with new info as I get it.
  9. Well, I'm back from the recon with Shawn (sort of) Never actually met Shawn, we couldn't seem to find each other, and cell phones don't work. CBs or at least 2 way radios are going to be a must. Other than that little stumble, I (we) think this area is going to be a lot of fun. Absolutely gorgeous views, lots of hiking trails and small picnic areas. Also a goodly number of fun roads, including one I decided not to go down that looks like you are decending into the bowels of the earth......Shawn ended up going down it in a Honda!!!! It will be a lot of fun taking turns trying to go back up it. (especially if it's at all wet.) A sutible area large enough to accomidate all of us may be a little tricky, but I think Shawn has a spot in mind. I'll let him give more details, he's got info on camping options & prices, and some more detailed maps. figuring out exactly where I was supposed to be was a little tricky. It's a pretty simple area, just not super well labeled. He's also got a route planned for the mud inclined, and one for the Imprezza/street crowd. (and his eagle eye spotted an old Subie hatch in someones field.......parts run!!! ) Yup, this is going to be a good time.
  10. They'll have a Traswagon with 'em by the time I see them. Plan to get pics of it & Eyesore together. I second Tim: Godspeed guys. Glad to hear they're doing well so far.
  11. Yup, got point & condenser too. Ahh, I think they are snap rings..... too bad I don't own the right pliers to remove those....... Subiemech, you have a PM......(lol)
  12. I was gonna offer to come down and give you a hand tomorrow, but you went and did it yourself. You know, if you need an extra pair of hands in the future, feel free to give me a holler. (might not have the knowledge, but I'm good for grunt work.:-p )
  13. (78 wagon) Ordered new axle U-joints, they come in tomorrow. The FSM is a little vauge, are these going to be replaceable in the same way as, say, a typical driveshaft U-joint? I mean, do I just undo the bolts and swap them out, or does this require the pulling of the whole axle etc. ? (hoping I can do this by myself, but if an axle pull is required, I'm gonna need help:-\ )
  14. I'm using a Wal-mart pushbutton type switch on my '78.... I'm running from an "ignition on" hot wire to the wire on the starter solenoid with a fusable link in the system. Works great. I also have my fuel pump hooked up to a toggle. Nothing is hidden, but it's a complicated enough process (Turn key on, flip fuel switch, push starter button) that no one can start it without directions. Another option for a hidden kill switch is: Is your car an auto?*edit: I see it's a 5spd, but for referance...* If so, splice into the wire from the trans that tells the car it's in park. (this is basically a ground, I think ) Then hide the switch. Until you complete the connection via the switch, the car thinks it's not in park, and won't start.
  15. I've got 14" here, and it's still coming down!! Wheeeeeee!!! Nothing like a foot of snow for my Birthday. Last year I was in Denver Mar. 15, and they got the biggest blizzard in 90 years....over 3' of snow.
  16. According to the FSM, on the "Air Suction System" : "The fresh air sucked is mainly used for oxidation of HC and CO in the exhaust passage and partly used for fuel combustion in the cylinder. " So if the engine is using this system to supplement the carb in adding air to the combustion process, I'm assuming this should not be plugged. Is this a correct assumption? If so, can anyone reccomend a tiny filter that will mount to the silencer (the little silver canister at the top of the system)? I would prefer to plug this, and remove the sound, but I want to be sure that won't be causing a rich condition in the chamber, or otherwise harm the motor. With that in mind, is it OK to plug this system?
  17. I'm just wondering, since my stock air cleaner is gone, (from Eyesore, 1978 Ea-71 4spd) The air injection system (or whatever it's called ) is drawing straight from the atmosphere.... When I plug this with my finger, I don't notice any difference in the motor (other than it is quiter without that gurgling sound) Now, Is this something that is OK to plug off, or should I find some kind of filter for it?
  18. I'm showing 72K on Eyesore. Could be 172K, but it doesn't leak any oil at all, (or anything else) which leads me to believe it may actually be 72. I know she spent about 8 years more or less dormant in a garage shortly before I bought her..... I guess I should be seriously thinking Timing belt, huh? Oh, yeah, Congrats on the milestone, biffanyus!
  19. subiemech is referring to my tires: Firestone Winterforce snows. They are a softer snow tire, so wear may be an issue (though mine are lasting pretty well) and are the most aggressive tires I could find without spending silly $$. (as stated, $33 each) I'm very happy with them so far.
  20. I have my spots angled "long range" down the road, and my smaller roof lights amed just beyond the shoulder of the road (not way off into the ditch) with all lights on, I get a constant swath of light that illuminates from 1/2 mile down the road to 10' off to the sides, and lights those critters in the ditches right up.
  21. since you brought it up, and for Raven TBK's and my own knowledge, how uncommon are those round guages? His and mine are the only ones I have seen. (not that I've seen all that many gen-1's in the flesh)
  22. You've actually got quite a fine looking little wagon there! the body looks mighty straight, and i couldn't see much of any rust in those pics. Yours is also the only other wagon I have seen with the round gauges. (doesn't necessairily make them rare....) Plus you got Jackman wheels, and the A-bar (grill guard) Score!! (again correct me if I'm wrong guys..) With A/C, and the wood look dash, Seems like a GL to me... As for your missing piece, It's a dipstick. Maybe somebody has a replacement for ya?....
