  1. My personal best was 8 hours going in excess of legalitiy in a rental Neon. It took 13 in Eyesore..... Glad you made it back safely, Mick. And I second evryon's comments; Great party, and much obliged, Shawn.
  2. Mick, Actually, yes. I'll take a black one if available. (does your supplier do 4wd lever boots too?) It's like a mini Mid-West Meet. MW3.5? See you guys Monday!
  3. I wouldn't part with the Hatch kit either, but it was worth a try. If everything ends up copacetic, 6.2 x 6.2 would work on the stickies. Have a safe trip, I'll see you Monday. (At Red Rocks?.....)
  4. Just one day? Monday huh? Well, I don't get off work till 4:30 / 5:00, but I'd love to meet up. Wish there was time to take ya wheelin in in the hills in the hatch, but You can check it out at least! (and it's horrible tire wear.) I would like to make a sticker request (if you're able) I want a couple (2) of OZified decals, Fairly good size(like 8-10" tall), for the hatch's rear pop-out windows. In red, if possible. I don't know if you have access (or permission?) to the Logo..... Let me know $$ wise. Also, Would you possibly be interested in a trade? I have a Tamiya 1/18 scale Subaru R-2 SS, complete & undamaged in bags and box. Any chance you'd like to trade for your Hatch kit? At any rate, glad you're coming up. It'll be good to see you again!
  5. I'm not sure on the Legacy. I'd say it's do-able, but some body damage is possible. ALSO: It's not necessary to do the "nasty" trail. The drive up is awesome & tame, and anyone not comfortable, can go back down that same way. The nasty road comes out onto the same paved road a couple miles down from the nice one, so we could split up and rejoin at the bottom.
  6. So, shall we go with a tennative date of Sat, June 17th?
  7. Well, 1st, Jerry, yes it's do-able. I did it in my stock hatch. However, I would not reccomend it unless you're very comfortable in you rig and off road. (I don't know how experienced you are.) It's about a 1/2 mile long section, all downhill and treelined, no (downward) cliffs. The trail is deeply rutted and washed out in alternating diagonal channels. Since subies don't really articulate, you drop in a rut, lift the left rear tire way off the ground, then you climb out lifting the right front way up, then you see-saw over into the next rut, lifting the right rear this time, say.... If you're not juuust right withe the steering and the brake modulation, there are 1 or 2 spots you could put it on it's side. Talking body damage mostly. unlikely you'd be seriously injured. I like the trail myself. it's a good challenge for a subie, but done right, won't break a thing. 2nd: This thread is all about co-ordinating. Let's find a time when several of us can get together. if that's late June, so be it. (but let's figure it out & DO IT!!.) I want to get some subies on the trail!!!!! Sundays, evenings, Weekends, all good for me. (I'm off work & home by 5 M-F) So long as I have notice not to make other plans. And I know somebody can't do sunday, that's why i suggested Sat, bu whatever. Also, I may still be up for it on the 3rd (and 10th and 17....$$ for gas permitting)
  8. Several people have expressed an intrest, so this is to see who all wants to gather (and when) and do some wheelin. Initally, i'm thinking a Saturday.... June 3rd is the 1st avail for me, but the 10th would work better. (fresh paycheck that way.) but let's see what we can co-ordinate. You don't need to bring a Soob, in fact, long overhang rigs (like an XT) would be bad. The spot I have in mind is south-ish of the town of Sedalia, and down and off of Palmer Lake Road. Essentially it's a back, back way into Rampart Range. Sedalia, is off of Santa-Fe/85 south of H-ranch, but before Castle Rock. No highway (over55) to get there from Denver. The drive there & up is very scenic, steep in parts but graded. Then we have options on the way down, and easy part (the way we came up), or a really nasty road, lots of washout, deep gullys, holes. I lift tires way off the ground in the lifted hatch. And the trail ends with a decent streem crossing. (hard bottom, easy for stock rig) So, who wants in?
  9. "Gotta say I'm curious where this place is, or is it the one you were telling me about before? By the way your hatch looks better everytime I see it! Too bad this time it wasn't in person." Thanks! She's a work in progress. MANY mods still in the works. This is a "new" place. I've known it for years, but never really taken people there. And it's south-ish from Sedalia, so straight down Santa-Fe/85. no Highway to get there. (55mph 2 lane though) The drive up is steep but graded, and has bueatiful views. Down, is the way you came up, OR, A really nasty road. You will lift tires way up in the air. (ie; on 2-3 wheels) Not really too much danger of rolling, but it's possible. not really for the inexperienced off road. There are no cliffs to plunge over though if you did roll, and well, I did do it in the hatch when she was still stock, but it was a bit spooky. I'm free on weekends, Saturdays are good, just need a few days notice. We should start a new thread.....
  10. Thanks for the compliments, guys. (and nice shot, Bob!) My car looks so lonely...I parked along the back like last time, then nobody joined me. I guess my little old hatch was intimidating the imprezzas. Another really good turnout, But us old school USMB'ers need to represent! Other than the 2 XTs, I had the only "classic" soob there! Really glad to see Shawn bring the Vanasoob out too. Now we needs to do some wheelin.... I've got a spot in mind, do-able in a stock subie (I did anyway....) but lift/tires reccommended. Fairly close, awesome views, and some pretty hairy sections. Who wants some challenge?
  11. I think the big reason RMR "failed" is that we all just posted here instead. And as for safety inspections, In Virgina (and other states) they do a visual inspection looking for structural / rust / collision damage as well as functionality of all lights, horn etc. before they will register your car. Colorado has none of that. Most emissions places hire teenage robots who attach hose A to pipe B and push buttons c thru z on a keyboard. They don't know or care to tell if something isn't up to code. (Unless it's something like getting high centered on the cement floor... )
  12. You won't have to undergo a safety inspection here. The Colorado DMV could care less if the doors have fallen off due to rust, as long as the car will pass (Denver's) heinous emissions test. As far as lift laws, tire clearance, headlight height, etc.; There may be laws on the books (I'm not sure) but the DMV won't ask, and the cops don't care. There are some HARDCORE trail rigs/rock buggies with Co. plates running the streets here. The only time you might have an issue is if you live here and bought an out of state car, they do a visual VIN verification on the car. If you have some glaringly horrible malady on the vehicle, it might get mentioned. (might not. if the VIN matches, they're happy.) Hope this helps. (P.S., I run 3' of lift on my hatch, and my 78 wagon has twin machine guns on it. Cops don't even look twice.)
  13. (This is in my 84,) I painted the foreground (the plastic piece) that surrounds the gauges and info center Gloss White. Then, in the pods that shine light onto the gauge faces, I swapped in a blue lense. So I have a really mellow blue glow from the entire cluster at night, and nice contrasting Black faces on a white field in daylight.
  14. I'm sure those of us able to, would love to meet up on June 15th too. Provide a little love for the subie deprived.
  15. Dunno why, I just don't dig F.I. (I generally prefer mechanicals to electronics.) I really want to go with a dual carb setup. Will be looking into having a custom Dual Sidedraft Webber intake ( ) made, but a factory JDM dualie intake would do also. I plan on a new motor; 1800 w/ 1600 pistons, stage 1 Delta cam, The above intake, my free flow dual exhaust and a custom 5spd D/R with low low 1st and an overdrive 5th. But I digress...
  16. I'd definately like to see some group wheeling. Those Washington/Oregon guys don't seem to have any trouble getting a group of Roos on the trail all the time. We have some of the best trails on earth here in Colorado, and we should be wheelin 'em! (granted, we have it rougher... We're at 7000 feet before we even get to the trailhead. Altitude is mean to carbed' subies.) Doesn't need to be Radical Hill, or Mosquito pass, or anything hardcore, just mountain air, beautiful scenery, the occasional obsticle to play on, and a nice spot to eat/swap/show. Even something pedestrian like Rampart Range Road is really pretty cool once you get 14-15 miles in. The crowds thin out and little offshoot trails are more common. Just tossing ideas.
  17. Slaughterhouse could be cool sometime, But I won't run Redcone in a Subie. Low range just isn't low enough. Actually, I'm really pretty impressed by this place near Mississippi & Tower. Bit of a drive, but it's also near civilization if something should go wrong.... (and near buddies with rescue rigs:rolleyes: ) And it's possible to get there without using a freeway....(I know what you mean. I can hold my own, but I'm screamin along at 4500 in 3rd to do it.) Also, Also, It's pretty straightforeward to get to if many people want to show up. With a little luck, there might be some mud to show off at Red Rocks the next day:cool:
  18. I'll be there to represent for the old schoolers / lifted rig guys. Freshly PUGed and Swampered. Perhaps a Pre-meet on Sat for some Wheelin?
  19. That would be the Subaru R2 "SS" a JDM model. (did you Aussies & Kiwis get these?)
  20. I was pretty floored when I found it. It's the only one like it I've ever seen. As for details on the kit, I just won it, so I won't see it in my hands for a week or two.
  21. Big 1/18 scale. Fully motorized, reclining seats, steerable wheels ETC. Woo Hoo! I beat Mick to the E-bay punch!
  22. I always shift at at least 4000-4500. The catless glasspacked exhaust on my 155K mile EA-81 only inspires me to keep windin it out. In fact this whole thread makes me want to go for a tear right now. Nice topic.
  23. Very nice Hatch! Sounds very close to what I'm doing / want to do. (EA-81 with 1600 pistons, low end Delta cam, Custom intake, etc, In my lifted 84 Hatch) I'm interested in your intake/ dual Weber setup. You gotta post pics when that's together. Personally, I've been toying with the idea of dual Side Draft Webers, (they just look so cool.) but the VW Downdrafts would be awfully pretty too.
  24. I've got mine, (a few on the board have seen it, Shawn W's been in it..) 1980 Ford Fairmont 2dr sedan, FBI Fleet car copper/brown color, Bench seat, Stock Steelies w/ dog dish hubcaps, 2800Lbs wet. 1992 H.O. 302 roller converted to carb, C-4 W/ shift kit & B&M QuarterStick, 8.8 Trac-Loc rear W/ 3.55's. Manual steering conversion... Ran low 14's at sea level. Subie Sleeper? A 2.2TT in Eyesore!!!!
