  1. Mark me down confirmed. Just got approval on the vac. time from work, so I'll be there (tired) on Sat. (and another wittle bump)
  2. Welcome! What're you driving, thogan? I usually try ($$ permitting) to do at least some light wheelin most weekends. More rigs are always welcome. And Yes. It is time for another meet, But it should be scheduled around WCSS7 and MW3 so nobody misses anything. Red Rocks is a great site, but a change of venue might be nice. Another park? Hmmmm... This deserves a new thread.
  3. Just to clarifiy; The event is the 6th-7th, (sat, sun) but the camping is the 5th & 6th.(fri,sat) I'll likely be leaving after work on Fri, and won't hit Iowa till Sat morn. Gonna need to sleep in there somewhere...SO, When are most people planning to get/be there? Should I push on into DSM to get in on early Sat stuff, or should I sleep & aim for Sat eve or Sun? I'll be staying w/ Mom, 45 min away, so once there, I can be in DSM within an hour. I realize it's early for detailed details, just got to thinkin, and don't want to miss out on possible fun. (like 2 miles of bottomless mud .)
  4. Eyesore (a GL WAGON) has a build date of 2/78 & has the quads & a tach.
  5. What about Oz? When did the blokes Down Under start getting 'em? I know the Aussies like their Soobs. That Killer Green Gen-1 was in Oz.......
  6. Ok, taking into account only registered/operable Gen-1s, How many do you all think are still out there? (like still on the road) Nationwide? Worldwide? (I'm sure rust ate them up in Europe too, but what about Oz? Are there still a bunch of 'em running around The Outback?) I'm guessing 2000-3000 left. (On the road, Worldwide.) Figuring their attrition rate more due to their propensity for cancer than to mechanical defect. Of those still Alive, how many are in "original" condition? Ie: no parts missing, no rust, dents, blemishes, rips/tears, cracks or leaks? (restored or survivors)
  7. Yay! Eyesore is at home. Long live the Gen-1
  8. That's a work of art. Love to see you at the next Colorado Gathering. I know a few of us would enjoy seeing it in the flesh.
  9. I'll figure the date into my summer travel plans. Should be able to work it. 1 Hatch, 1-2 people.
  10. Well, I picked up a catless true dual exhaust from a board member, sans mufflers, (straight pipe heads to rear axle) and I just got through bolting it on. Um, wow. I wanted loud, & boy did I get it. I'm "arrest me officer" loud. Ok, the car is getting mufflers (glasspacks). The exhaust will (eventually) exit both sides behind the doors in 4 1"dia. "zoomie" pipes per side. (Like Mad Max's Interceptor) But until then, My neighbors are going to hate me. (hehehe) I could bolt the smogged system back on, buuuuut it looks like it might start raining, soooo....not tonight!!
  11. Working on pics. Have a camera, but not the cables. (Hey, I tried to be descriptive. ) We have trees here too. Seems to me, smashing any window out on them is throwing away $$. But, hey, "stuff" happens out on the trail. A busted window is a small price to pay for an awesome day wheelin. And visibility out is quite good, actually. You can always roll 'em down too. Worth it for the looks / solar protection (I am a mile high) in my book.
  12. Well, things are progressing along nicely with the new addition. Like the sig says, she's an 84, Moss Green (84 only color). Everything below the lower belt molding I panted flat black, Wheels (the jackman-ish ones) black, & hood black. Put 1980 Factory winch bumper on, & Sawzalled from the bottom of the headlights back, off of the fenders. Also removed front roll pan area that connects the fenders to the rad. support / subframe area with the Sawzall. Bigtime difference on approach angles. Car has fresh OEM rear mudgaurds, and the rear emblems are painted red on black to match. Just (yesterday) got 15% tint all the way around (not the windshield). That's one grade lighter than limo tint. Looks great. Both front Axles are brand new, And a high flow cat & glasspack installed, resonator removed. Inside: Leather wrapped "D" shaped steering wheel, B&M T handle shift knob, I removed the instrument gauge surround and painted it gloss white, so it's black faced gauges on a white background. Then, the popup pods that project light onto the gauges; I replaced the lenses with blue plastic. So the white part all glows a mellow blue at night. Then, today, I went to Sidewinder Auto Salvage looking for a Pug I heard was there, (Couldn't find it. ) and stumbled across an awesome pair of front buckets from an 89 Mitsu Galant for $30. Adjustable height/seat bottom, grippy rump roast lumbar support, ultra comfy. Had to relocate the hatch release lever to under the seat, and drill new holes, but they work great. Up Next: 4" Lift, 14's & Swampers, STI scoop grafted onto new hood, Roof basket, Engine:brow: .........
  13. Shawn W. is helping me through my first this weekend. Can you believe it? a Subaru owner for over 5 years and never an axle replacement! (OK, I had the shop do one on eyesore after Midwest 2, but I've never gotten hands on.)
  14. I agree. Go your own way. I like the shaker idea, and that scoop would look good as one. Do it. And hey espey 16, It's been done. :-p Go for it, though. I love mine. it totally fits the car. Now the new hatch on the other hand, is getting a genuine STI scoop grafted on....
  15. I'm up for it if the timing works out. I get vacation time after the 1st of June, and was planning a trip through Iowa shortly thereafter. Otherwise, a "Cannonball Run" type weekend drive to Des Moines & back is not out of the question either. A Midwest 3 sticker sure would look good on the hatch. (BTW, Mick, I'd pay to get a MW1 Sticker. You should make one for everyone who attended the innagural event!)
  16. How about an EA81 or EA82 Hood, (with scoop compatability) and incorporate the Gen-1 style side bumps with intergrated vents. I think it's such an aggressive styling touch, allways liked 'em.
  17. Sante Fe & Union, is it at that place just west of the nudie book store, on Union? I Go by that area 20 times a day running parts, I'll swing by tomorrow and have a glance at it too, see if it's still there. Sounds like all you really need, Turbo, is a decent body.....
  18. I'm also very thankful you made it out ok, and am also not too far away for some parts pulling help when the time comes. PM me for my #, or get it from Shawn. We'll get you 'Rooed up again.
  19. Wow.....Quite a meet. Glad everybody made it out alive. I'm noticing a distinct lack of chatter about "the incident". I didn't personally witness it, so I won't tell the story. However, I'm looking foreward to seeing the pictures again, and hearing the "from behind the wheel" account of what went wrong. A word to the wise: Attend a Saburu meet with Shawn W. and Eyesore at your own peril. Bad things happen 2 out of 4 times. (I happen to think it's just Shawn ) Otherwise, good to see/meet everybody. (still) Looking foreward to the next meet. Might be fun to do some trail runs at some point too.
  20. Ahhhh, just noticed your location. Coming South down I-25, once you hit Westbound I-70, You'll be there in about 15-20 minutes.
  21. Depends where in Denver you are.... I-70 W, to C-470 S, (says east) get off at Morrison Rd. OR, Hampden W, (HWY 285) to C-470 N (says west) get off at Morrison. Or just come up 470 from the south. On a Saturday morning any direction will be running pretty quick. I'm at Arapahoe & Holly, and it takes me 30-40 minutes. Hope that helps.
  22. Looking like 44 degrees for Sat now... Oh, well. I'm interested in some of those decals too, Shawn. See everyone there!
  23. Sounds good to me. I'm always up for a meet. It'll give me a chance to pimp the new hatch too. As long as I have a little warning, most dates are good for me.
  24. The exhaust work and all major mods were done here in Denver before I moved to Iowa. It passed no problem the last time it was tested in Co., but that was almost 3 years ago. The vaccum leak (or whatever it is) that won't let it idle properly under 1000 rpms will, at present, prevent it from passing. The motor has less than 80k original miles on it though, so a little wrenching should have it running like a champ. (she ran great before the carb ordeal) Ask the guys at MW2, she was clawing her way through that bottomless mud as well as most of the other soobs. She's by no means perfect, but she's got a lotta heart.
