  1. LOL 'Okole' is Hawaiian for bottom, butt, @$$ ... I wonder what their logo looks like. Also check Body Glove, I think they make neoprene seat covers too. Price, ahdunno?
  2. Congrats Paulie ... now, get up from the dam computer and do some WORK willya?
  3. Word. We bought our '00 in November of '01. The car already had 99,850 miles on it. We're now at 175,000 miles virtually trouble free ... well, one wheel bearing, one window power switch. Get the Subaru 'head gasket goop', and do religous tranny service if it's an A/T. Great car.
  4. The thought has crossed my mind. A BTW. Our lower front fender lips have always been a little flared out, prolly from the previous owner kissing a curb with the lower valance. Yesterday I fixed it thusly: Loosened the single 10mm bolt connecting the lip to the body, then pulled the valance forward the 1/4" it was knocked back. Put a regular hair dryer set on hot on a milk carton and heated hte bulge for 15 min per side. While warm leaned my thigh against the buldge and held it until the plastic cooled. All fixed.
  5. How to remove the lower valance 'airscoop' grilles? Going to bedliner, and may install driving lights. THANX
  6. whilst she is visiting the Hawaii grandkids. Projects to include: Polish headlamp covers (did that today) and replace bulbs (the passenger side low beam is out, so planning Sylvania ... not the Silverstars, sounds like they don't last). Detail interior. Replace cracked windshield. Fix dent (I put in) tailgate. Bedliner the front and real valances and sides below the rubber belt line. We get those areas seriously sandblasted in winter. Install splashguards. The question: how do I remove the fakey air scoops that cover up the foglight holes (I may also install driving lights)? * Legacy lifted with Outback struts and springs ... can't bring myself to call it an Outacy.
  7. ... satin black hatch with red hood panel and Starsky & Hutch stripe on the side. Lift, roof cage, lot'sa lights, big meats and bumpers. Stuck in the traffic stream coming off the 2:30 pm Kingston ferry arrival. I waved, but since was in my daughter's Exploder got no response. Onliest 'worked' Subaru I saw in almost a week and four hundred miles in the Sound area.
  8. Or, how I carry my bike(s). Set bike(s) so the handlebats are on the front crossbar. Tightly wrap bungee around both so everything is good and snug. Slide bars so the bike (s) seat rests on the rear crossbar. Tightly bungee seat to crossbar. Run a coupple of bungees diagonally from the ends of the rear crossbar to brace the bike(s). Drive. I took a bike to my daughter's (and our) new place in Pt. Ludlow, I-90, 70 all the way, no trouble at all. Note to self: remember to take bike and lay flat before boarding the ferry ... they charged me an extra twenty books got an 'over-height-load'. Total cost - six bungees. We even carry our Schwinn-Twinn the same way. BTW - holes in the crossbars? I've drilled two 1/4" holes thru both crossbars to bolt on extenders to hold our canoe on the stock racks. Does not seem to weaken the bars at ll, BUT! You'll have to wrap the holes with vinyl tape when you remove the rack, or the crossbars act just like a flute ... a LOUD out-of-tune flute.
  9. Well, if what I said is '3rd Deg Outery', then fershure 'Outacy' is the compulsive mental disorder wherin one is driven by an uncontrollable need for telling everyone that sombody is gay without their permission. The patiant is known as an 'Outiac'.
  10. "Outacy" I thought that was the crime of telling everybody that someone is gay without their permission?
  11. You gotta look close, no optical zoom on the camera I had. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=11202&cat=585 Wonder what they are 'really' thinking.
  12. Yep LosDios, that's just about what we got when we 'Outbacked' our '00 Leg ... Legaback?
  13. That's IT! I'm registering a complaint with PETT (People for Ethical Treatment of Trees). The shame, making a poor tree support an automobile ... or what's LEFT of one. Reminds me of when I lived in the Sierras. There was a couple of big old trees downed in a STEEP gully behind my house. I bucked the trees down and split the rounds on site. Then I backed my Toyota FJ40 down on the winch, and after loading the thing up hauled the wood up outta the gulch. Took about ten trips to get all the firewood. I sweated breaking a shear pin the whole time.
  14. Check your parents homeowners insurance, that 'should' cover the damage. Also, no rate raise in most cases.
  15. ... the single filament kind. I need to know how many amps they draw. I tested on on a 12V multimeter, but the meter goes only to 1.5 amps. Pegged it, so it could be anything from 2 amps up. None of the packaging rates the amps, or watts (so I can't even calc using Ohms law). I have a 10 amp breaker on the lighting circuit I'm wiring up in my homebuilt airplane. It has three 1092s and a strobe that draws 4 amps. The damn breaker switches are $28.00 each, and I don't have room in the panel for another breaker. Anyone know? THANX Well, it's not Subaru, but a Lycoming IS a flat-four.
  16. How about a 2000 owner? Our Legacy (175,000 mi) blows cold at all times, with one exception. If we're sitting idling at a lo-oong traffic light it will 'lose it's cool' a bit. But 1/2 block later it icy cold again. Except for me recharging it last summer with a store-bought kit, it's never been serviced. I suspect yours is faulty. Have you driven another new Outback for comparison? I'd be back to that dealer toot sweet, make them drive you around in a duplicate off the lot. Hey, it a brand new car!
  17. It does look like you had fun, and not to denigrate your adventure in any way, but ... I gotta say that when I lived in the High Sierra I drove worse roads that those pictured (much worse) in a bone stock Chevy II sedan. Anyone old 'nuff to remember those?
  18. DON'T go to 'Jiffy Lube' or any of their ilk. I'm no fan of stealerships, but AT is one of the things I would go to a Subaru dealer for. Too many horror stories with grease monkies screwing up 'Roos. I actually have our oil changes done at the dealer as well, It's within $2.00 of the quik-lube joints, I get trained techs and they wash the car to boot. Oh, and watch out for coolant changes too, if done incorrectly, you'll end up with an air-lock, and be on the first step of the slippery slope to HG hell. Now that I've scared the bejezuz outta ya , go enjoy your ''new' Subaru. Oh, and get back to us when you can't figger out why your parking lights stay on ... and we'll explain the 'virgin switch' to you
  19. "a local dealer service manager said it probably needs a complete rebuild on the engine to stop oil burning--"these engines were noted for that"" I don't believe that oil burning is ever much of a problem in old Subarus. We've had five, with up to 215,000 miles, and none burned oil. The last GL I had ran from Whitefish, MT to Baltimore, MD at interstate speeds,non-stop each way, total oil consumption 2 qts. Our current 2000 Legacy has 175,000 and doesn't use even 1/2 QT between changes. I agree, check the PCV system, change the oil and filter and see how it goes before you trade it away. And stay out of 4WD on pavement with those tires.
  20. Have you tried a flush? We're at 175,000 on our 2000 Leacy and have had no tranny (or any other) issues. But I'm paranoid about the AT and we do religous tranny service series ... at the Subaru dealership, of all places.
  21. Almost perfect, camo it first, then the Flying Tigers shark. Cut the doors down weld 'em in, add a cap to join the inner and outer skins and create a step ... oh yeah, and the 'cup' holders. It'll rigidize the hull immensly as well as keep the bodies contained.
  22. Yeah, Montana dealers have put out a 'Grizzly' edition. Maroon and silver outbacks with U of M mascot graphics. I think only the Missoula dealer, actually now that I think about it. I suppose the Bozeman dealer could've done a Cats version.
  23. I still think it needs the half-doors, a'la Jeep. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=10659&cat=585
