Remove rear door interior panel ... without destroying it.
2006 Outback, driver side rear door will only unlock/open with the interior handle. It will lock with the remote or door master, but not unlock. I'm guessing something has come undone at the latch, but there are no obvious attatch hardware for the panels, and just tugging on them only bruises my tender fingertips! Before I start prying at things with my biggest/widest blade screwdriver, what am I missing? Thanks all.

Have a question about the Crosstrek? Ask an owner!
Aloha all, from an old, but recently hit & miss member. Kapalili wants to replace her '06 Outback. We're back in Whitefish for a shoulder replacement for me, and dropped into the local stealership to look at the Crosstek. I didn't realize the hybrid had been dropped :-(. Our driving consists of ten to twenty local miles per day, and occassional island style road trips (300 mile r/t max!). Some lava roads to surf spots, and to top of mountain (Mauna Kea, 13.930' asl. So, questions: 1. Will the XV be worth the hybrid, or just get a regular Crosstek . 2. Where's our best source for a good example ... oh, here, of course! 3. What to watch out for? 4. Any best year? Some more info: The Hawaii stealerships do NOT honor SOA factory warranties ... period. Shipping from west coast will add another $1,200 + insurance. Want a sunroof and CVT. Would have to be a trusted seller who can handle shipping forwarding, or I spend snother $1,000 - $2,000 just to inspect. Probably not serious until early spring '18, we're going to Europe first ... bought one-way tickets.

'06 Outback wagon hatch
mtsmiths replied to mtsmiths's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWiring diagram anywhere? I've got the tailgate all open and there are SIX broken wires in the tubing between the body and tailgate. I'm surprised ANYTHING works. Not much room so am soldering jumper wires, but I've got three broken black or dark grey wires on the body side, and only two on the hatch? No kidding Imdew, I just spent 10 days back in Whitefish, MT (doctor consult and ski trip), I forgot how bloody cold it is up there -29 on the summit one day ... Bbbrrrrrrrrr!

'06 Outback wagon hatch

'06 Outback wagon hatch
Trying to remove interior hatch cover to get at wiring. Everything on lower edge released BUT, the interior inset handle. Prying the trim down I can see two yellow plastic through clips, or whatever, but nothing will budge. How do I get that stubborn %#*~# off without tearing the surrounding plastic up? Stuck and stumped.

mtsmiths replied to mtsmiths's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXMahalo Fairtax, That's sort of what I figured. I guess I needed some erification before I start taking things apart. Condo living/outside parking not condusive to wrenching.

2006 Outback Rear license light fuse?
mtsmiths replied to mtsmiths's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThnx, symptoms so far: Checked with glow lamp, no power to sockets (new bulbs, cleaned contacts). All other rear lights work. Backup lamps in hatch work. Rear wiper doesn't work, washer does. Can't figure out where to start looking, safety check due by end of month (makes me miss Montana)

Found a gold standard '91 Loyale, literal 'little old lady' car
On Orcas Island, absolute creampuff, not a spot or stain on the interior, exterior perfect except for some scratches over the passenger side front wheel well (caused by a dog biting the car). 84,000 miles, all by the same person who bought it new (we've known the lady for at least five years). Now the car is sitting, under shelter. Pushbutton 4WD, cloth interior, power everything ... including the damn shoulder belts, steam guages. It has a come and go miss in one cylinder. The owners son (professional mechanic) tore it down and redid the entire front case and top end, and says he thinks it'sa collapsed valve actuater. But sometimes it runs perfectly, and sometimes a slight miss, and others a three-cylinder engine. All new points, plugs, wires, and condenser ... Any ideas? I want to grab this while we're visiting the PNW and ship it to Hawaii

Just a quick Aloha!
Long-time USMB member, out of touch because our current Subaru ('06 Outback, our fifth Soobie) runs so well, and is such a boring car (I miss our old GLs) there has been no reason to hang around and lurk. I keep sniffing around the Big Island CL hoping to find a clean GL to play with, but no luck so far. Anyhow, hi to all my old friends on the board who may still be around.

Driving Lights?
mtsmiths replied to Stevo F's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYes they do help, especially in fog or blowing snow. And no, don't do the Subaru kit, get the dash parts and relay and cobble the rest together. THe replacement bulbs for our Outback are just shy of $100.00 each. Still on the originals, but when they go they won't be replaced with OEM.

Fronet fender/fascia fastener
Some ungracious person in a public parking lot let us an anonomyous love tap. None to serious if I can just figure out how to get to it. From what I can see craining my neck around under the car and the hood, it's a simple case of TAB A into SLOT B, assuming that there is a tap on the fender merge. If so easy enough to slip in, and from what I can see in the fender it's a light gage metal strap behind the plastic fasia, shoul be able to muscle it back into shape ... problem is, how to get in there. Any ideas? ps: I have no idea why my pic posted upsidedown, maybe someone in Australia can help me.

What have I done to our '06 Outback? 2.5 normally aspirated, auto.
mtsmiths replied to mtsmiths's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI do the grease, the penny is a new one, but makes sense. But I wonder why the severe corrosion? I've never had any other car do this so bad, including all our older Subarus. But the '00 and the '06 both awful!

mtsmiths replied to mtsmiths's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXK, thanks all, did the recycle and alss is well. Funny how you forget the simple stuff. On my 2011 bicycle trip across the US one of us bumped the virgin switch without realizing it. I couldn't for the life of me figure out why we kept losing our battery charge ... until we parked after dark DUH-OH! Another query in the same vein. This Subaru, and our 2000 Legaback both get seriouslu corroded positive battery terminals. No other symptom, just massive build up. I need to buy my third battery hold-down and a new battery clamp today, and I go through a lot of white vinigar and baking soda!
