mtsmiths replied to nipper's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI thought the same thing, and what's with the side door windows? I hope that's some sort of camo faux frame.

Subaru Concept for Tokyo
mtsmiths replied to Quidam's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIt's a little exotic for my taste. But no matter , even if they do build it, it won't be offered in the Americas ... well, maybe Canada might get it, eh?

2000 legacy L question
mtsmiths replied to 86subaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXAt 108K a new T-belt is a MUST! And if you don't have a history do A/T transmission service as well.

2010 3.6R Hesitation
mtsmiths replied to PopPhilly's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXOur '06 Outback (2.5L) has the same hesitation (actually it's about one second, but it's still disconcerting when you want to go NOW to avoid an on-coming logging truck). And yes, the dealer (repeatedly) says it's 'normal'. I hadn't though of the Sport Shift tho', I'll try that and see if it's any different. I think it won't be.

Honda CR-V
I dunno, but she HATES that car. And she told me "If you say ONE MORE TIME ' told you to buy a Subaru', you're outta the club!"

Honda CR-V
The prez of the Whitefish Outrigger Canoe Club (Hui Wa'a o' ia Kea) bought a FWD CRV and can't get it out of her LEVEL driveway in snow or ice ... skip it.

Dashboard scratches on new 2009 Outback Wagon
mtsmiths replied to B&K's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXOur 2006 does not have this problem, I agree that you should avoid Amourall, it degrades vinyl and results in cracking in the long term. Get Aerospace 303. Don't spray it around the car, wet a soft cloth and wipe the surfaces down with it. It wiill dry to an invisible matte finish, and 'heal' small scratches. Good Stuff!

'06 Outback auto ... add tranny cooler
how hard? I may heve to trail my airplane project from Montana to Georgia if the folks I'm talking with buy it. Total towing weight will be around 1,900 - 2,000 lbs. Thinking a transmission cooler would be a good idea. Or, should I just wait for winter and call it good?

Forester headlight query
mtsmiths replied to mtsmiths's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXBIL, called, and of course the replacement cost him $20.00, installed at a local gas station. This dealer has really p!ssed me off, and I don't even live on Maui. I just can't help wondering how many folks they have ripped off with this scam. My BIL is pretty non-confrontational so I doubt he will do anything, but the next time we go visit him I swear I'll borrow the Forester, loosen the bulb and go in for a written estimate. If I get the same rip-off offer I'm going to do whatever it takes to get SOA involved.

Forester headlight query
mtsmiths replied to mtsmiths's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXJust the bulb. I told him to poke around on the back of the housing and he would see a black socket that would unscrew or unsap in a logical way and to stick in a new $15.00 bulb (being careful to not touch the glass) and put it back together. I also told him to go back to the service department and ask for a written bid to replace a burned out headlight, and after discussing it with the manager or owner of thestealership to report the business to SOA for investigation. If he doesn't, I may drive his Forester in and do it myself when I'm visiting Hawaii next month.

Forester headlight query
mtsmiths replied to mtsmiths's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThat's what I told him, but I did say I would check in and report he experts responses. Personally I think he should file a complaint with Subaru USA. I wonder how many folks these guys have suckered on this scam?

Forester headlight query
Asking for my BIL on Maui. Right side headlight burned out and he stopped by the dealer to have it replaced. They told him that he had to replace the entire unit ... $300.00+, plus labor! I can't believe this. Surely there's no way that hte Forester is that different from the Legacy/Outback series. Are they crooks, or am I just clueless? BTW, Hi from gone walkabout mtsmiths. The 2006 is just so good, I never need any help any more . Check classified for snow tires/wheels.

Mustang
If I were buying an otherwise salvagable Mustang 'verte for $1,000.00, I'd just take it to a professional disaster restoration place and pay them to clean it out. They'll be able to kill any residual live mold and mildew also.

06 Outback 2.5 'dead zone'
I checked all the 'hesitation' posts and couldn't find my problem. Our non-turbo Outback has a full-throttle response delay of a full second, and then departure is 'leisurely'. There are no TSBs on the car. I had the car in for an oil change so anted up the $50.00 for a diagnostic and it all came back clean. The tech said it drives like all the others. Our 2000 Legaback would chirp the tires when floored on dry pavement, and I'm afraid to pull out into traffic in this one. It behaves just like a carb with a sticky float. Any ideas?

new truck
I had one of those that I loved dearly ... enough to ship it from Hawaii when we moved to Montana. Mine didn't look that good tho' it was GM's special 'peeler blue' paint scheme. Onliest problem I ever had with that truck was a clogged fuel filter. Only reason I ever sold it was I needed 4WD, which is what got us back into Subarus ... in NW Montana, what else?

someone other than SJR builds crazy subarus...
Going in the right direction for my "I want' beach car, just a little too far. Needs another 18" or so wheelbase, shorten the overhangs, ditch the front windows and cut the doors down 'a la Jeep ... and I'll take one please. OH, and left hand drive thank you.
