  1. Hey guys, I just recently refinished rehabbing an EA82T that was mixing coolant and oil, in my Black '89 RX. I put in reman heads, new HG's, all engine seals, cooling system, clutch etc. The car/motor have 80k miles. This past weekend I put the motor back in and she is running very nice. Only issue is that it seems to overboost in 2nd, 3rd at high RPMs at WOT and then the ECU cuts fuel. It also tends to ping a bit right before this happens. Mid throttle gets very nice pull through all gears with no pinging. Does seem a bit laggy under 3K but I assume thats the nature of the beast. Its a bone stock EA82T with the exception of a 2.5" custom exhaust header to muffler with no cats. My wastegate is free but I haven't tested to see that its opening yet. Other than the wastegate not opening, I'm thinking the issue is probably due to the exhaust being too free flowing. Thoughts on this? Thanks John
  2. I just went through this. I managed to pull them all without breaking them. The key was to loosen them like a 1/8-1/4 turn at most, just enough so that you create the slightest gap between the head of the bolt and the manifold. I did this by very slowly and light working them back and forth until I could get that slight gap. Then I sprayed CRC Freeze Off, waited a minute or two, and started working it again. Repeated this a couple of times and they all came out no issues.
  3. I decided to run it. The person who sold me the heads (longtime subaru guy) said the car they came from ran fine and didnt loose any coolant so he thinks they are fine as well. Luckily, the old heads do not appear to be cracked other than the normal one between the valve seats, I will probably get those done in order to have a spare set.
  4. its odd. This "crack" is oriented toward the cam side of the head. I dont see any coolant passages in that area, and the shop says they pressure tested it. Not really sure what to think.
  5. So I had this EA82T head redone by a machine shop. Just took a close look at it before installing, I noticed this (circled in red) in the exhaust port, looks like a crack but I am no expert in this area. Is this the spot where they normally crack? I put this pic out on a Subaru FB group, some said crack others said casting mark. What do the experts here think?
  6. Yeah I have one. Its works well, already did 4 joints on EA82 cars with it.
  7. thanks Ive ordered some ball joints then
  8. I have a Brat with bad ball joints. I looked on rock auto and all the ball joints listed are the same part numbers for the EA82 cars. I read that the ball joints are different from EA81 to EA82, so I was just wondering what people on this board had to say about it? Is there a different sournce for ball joints or a part number we know works on EA81 cars. Thanks
  9. It includes the lower perch. I bought a set recently.
  10. Dude, that's it. Thank you! Had been trying to figure this out for a while.
  11. You can buy OEM 4wd struts right from Subaru. $100/each.
  12. Thanks for the advice. I've had good luck resealing tail lights on the 3 doors but in this case it didnt seem to be tail lights. I will check the window seals and trim.
  13. I had a problem where my starter would just click sometimes and not start. Ended up installing a 12v relay to the starter signal wire then pulling power off the batter and sending that to the starter via the relay. Fixed my issue.
  14. Hi All, Looking for a bit of advice. I noticed some water pooling in the rear fender well where the jack is stored on my 93 Loyale wagon. Initially I thought the tail light was leaking but I dont see evidence of water coming in from there. I see the window washer tank in that location too but I dont believe that is the culprit. Any thoughts on this? Thanks!
  15. Rubber replacement. 22mm energy suspension 16.5121G. Fit well but didn’t have the rounded base but seems ok anyway.
  16. Only listing at rock auto is for the rear bushings on the front swat bar and it’s actually the wrong size anyway. I did manage to find a suitable replacement for those however.
  17. Hi, anyone have a part number for the end link bushings for an 85 Brat sway bar? Can’t seem to find a listing. Thanks
  18. I listed it before you asked. Just confirming it is indeed for sale. I can pull the harness as well then.
  19. Yes, it does. I just listed the cluster on the 4x140 facebook groups. Dash wiring harness is likely good too, how hard is that to remove?
  20. Finally got around to this job on the weekend. Overall it was pretty easy thanks to the tips from you guys. Removal of the donor dash took about 2 hours. Then about an hour when I did it again on the Brat to remove it's dash since I had done it once before. Installation took about 3 hours, but I went slow and also spent alot of time cleaning and making a few things right. Overall the project was a big success. I didnt have a hard time with the 3 bolts under the windshield, I used a ratcheting box end that is hinged on the ratcheting end and it make quick work of those bolts.
